  • Eduardo Souza de Cursi is a Full Professor at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rouen Normandie in France. He has research experience in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, namely theoretical and numerical aspects, stochastic methods and convex analysis. In the framework of Customs, he applies techniques of Uncertainty Quantification to model risks, in order to prioritize and optimize inspections, take into account seasonality and estimate non observed infractions.

Abstract: This rapid presentation introduces Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) and its applications to Customs. UQ is a collection of tools for the statistical and probabilistic characterization of uncertainties, variabilities and errors in the response of a system, using data. UQ methods can be applied to Customs to prioritize and optimize inspections, model and manage risks, analyze beliefs of officers and their plausibility.
Keywords: risk analysis and management, stochastic models, uncertainty quantification
