  • Removing the gauge bezel is the first step in completing the restoration of a motorcycle gauge. They certainly don’t make it easy to get at the face plate!

Excellent tip using the hose clamp. Just an aside: In 1965 I travelled to Japan with my parents and they took me to the Honda factory outside Tokyo. I needed some parts for my Sport 50. I got a tour of the factory. There were hundreds of motorcycles hanging from the ceiling in various stages of production. I had never been so amazed. When we went next to Seoul, South Korea where we stayed at the only resort in the country for 2 months, they had a fleet of 305 Dreams for rent. It was the first time I had ridden something with that large an engine (I was 16).
Keeping these old scooters alive is a wonderful thing.

Interesting you and I are working on the exact same bike a the same time. Just removed the gauge and front forks this week to rebuild both. I need to clean the gauge and get a replacement sticker for the front of the gauge. From a quick test both the Speedo and tach are working. I’m not removing the needles until I watch you do it first! As you are well aware, replacement gauges a very expensive!

Hello. Did you make a "Part Two?" I can't seem to find it. Thank you. Sorry, saw the comment below that Part Two was live. I have the same CB77 gauge. How did you get the two needles off? Would appreciate any guidance.

The needles were very difficult. Used a fork to gently tip them up. Nerve racking! Not a job I really wanna do again.

It’ll take a little while for the caption to generate. Usually takes a few hours. I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future videos!

It was a bugger, Lou. I think I covered the other parts while live streaming. I’d have to go back to make sure. Those needles are really on there. Hard to pull off. Thanks for letting me know about the issue.

@@KeepOnWrenching I was interested in part II as well - mostly to see how you reattached and crimped the bezel without a press or lathe.
