For the dog one, it's not a perfume bottle but a bell. It's based on Pavlov's Dog, an experiment in stimulus/response. He would ring a bell and give his dog a treat, which built up a bodily response to that stimulus. This meant that whenever he rung the bell, his dog would begin drooling, expecting a treat.
the puzzle box that is a dog... when the bottle touches the mouth of the dog and it sticks. it makes a noise that sounds like the dog is sniffing the bottle:-) it happens every time you move the bottle while it's attached. the wood rubbing together sounds like the dog is sniffing.
