We are heading toward a depression, not just a recession. Save and be prepared. My daughters rent is going to be $ 350 higher in August. Of course she can’t afford that, she’s 23 and just finished school. I am encouraging her to move back in with us and wait this out. I feel bad for young people who don’t have that option.
Your such an awesome parent to do that for your daughter. The economy ain’t what it used to be. Parents who let their kids stay with them so they don’t financially struggle are amazing 🥲.
I hope she takes up your offer, baby girl, move back,it’s not failure to move back, you can all pool your resources and pull through. I wish I had a mama to go back to.
Me too, I think eventually our daughter who lives in NY could possibly be coming back home. She has roommates, but still! It’s really SAD!! We have 17 year old twins at home and our 26 year old, who taught in South Korea for 3 years! Our oldest ( 31) is living in North Carolina, I think she will stay in North Carolina at whatever cost before moving back home. Praying for everyone.
Yeah and where are you going to put that?? It's no different and then when the plot rental rises you have to worry about where you are going to write that thing.
And don't stop there get some land even if you have to lease it and build, if you have a family that wants to go in with you even better get out of the city if you can they're just building over priced high rises and it's too overwhelming.
Girl I am going through the exact same thing EXCEPT mine got raised by $300.00!!!! Literally NOTHING I can do as I can't afford to move. I've only been here a year. I'm a single woman paying $1600.00 a month. How you ask. I have two jobs to the point that I only get one day off, I'm never home, and I STILL haven't unpacked from when I moved in...a year ago. Same in Florida.
@@lmitchell7976 I am actually working on it, or I should say I have been working on it for about 3 years. When I was married to my ex he let the credit score go into the toilet. I have done very well so far, but I still have more to go.
Dear Akeeba, I am sorry that you are going through this.California has been ridiculousy outrageous with their rent hikes for some years now, I left in 2013. Like Teetee said, we are heading toward a depression and we will see it very soon within a few months or less, please pay attention to the signs. Buying land would be more to your advantage if you can do that. Growing your own food will be imperative because things are about to change quickly. Sit with the Almighty and you will get the right answer. Blessings
You are absolutely right unfortunately those of us that are trying to do this with little to no help because ppl refuse to leave what they're comfortable with.
Wow I wished i got out of Ca then and not just last year. Though we got out it’s no better for housing here in AZ. The rent and housing here is so expensive too. It’s just so hard right now.
@@mzfitmama2361 Living in Texas now and the rents have gone up $400.00 where I am. You know people power is real and if enough people stand up against this the prices will have to go back down. Our rent is the same as if we were in LA.
Akeeba you can afford to buy a house. Start with a small house and then upgrade later. You can even move to a more affordable location. Don’t waste your time with these greedy burgers! Good luck 🥰🥰🥰
That's a good idea. If she can find one. A lot of corporations bought houses recently and are only renting. They even paying triple + the selling price.
It’s nearly impossible to purchase a house here in CA. Prices are astronomical & supply is very low. Most houses are usually under contract within the first week and buyers are offering tens of thousands over asking price & agreeing to waive any maintenance and repair fees associated with the home inspection. In addition, we have a lot of private companies and REIT’s (Real Estate Investment Trusts) that are offering cash above asking & then flipping them in to higher priced rentals. In order to buy a decent (even small) house in CA that’s not way out in the desert, you’ve got to be able to spend $500k in a sketchy neighborhood and $1 mil in a safe neighborhood with amenities nearby. Plus there’s the issue of traffic and long commutes. The typical commute is approx 45 - 60 min one way. I have a tiny one bedroom Apt that rents for $2300 a month (it was $1100 3 years ago), and it’s so small that two people can’t live in it comfortably so I can’t split expenses with a roommate/boyfriend. Middle class people are getting priced out of CA.
Yup she can get a nice town house to start off and then rent it to college kids. I’m paying 1,1300 for a 3rooms and a basement. Came with a deck in my room also and in 3years imma rent it out to college kids cause I live by multiple colleges. I’m sure she can afford that, plus it’s hers and brings generational wealth..
You’re such a motivational educator, great mom and strong woman, Akeeba! Hopefully, you’ll land in a better place and will look back on this time knowing that YOU DID IT!! We’re all out here juggling ways to stay afloat…we have to keep the faith! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
In the uk 🇬🇧 they can only increase rent according to the ‘consumer price index’ between 3-5%. And they have tribunals if landlords want to increase above the cpi it has to be proven that that the price is in line with the current market value, they look at the age and state of the property etc
It’s treacherous out here in Cali. I’ve been out here since I was 8 years old. And slowly I’ve seen corporations weaponize inflation ruin communities. Mental health, violence, and unrest within the community is at an all time high.
We have rental properties and we finally had to increase rents on a couple of our properties because they are located in areas being colonized and becausecof insane housing market, we had to raise the rents because we are not even meeting break even. In fact for the last two years, we have subsidized the renters. We are small and can't afford to subsidize housing. We are forced to finally raise rents because of inflation of goods and services and property taxes. We are trying to keep rent affordable, but we had to. Most of our tenants haven't had a rent increase in 7 years. Greed is the problem.
I have a family member doing the same thing, he could be getting a lot more for one of his properties as well -- in Baltimore where just like where you are, gentrification is happening driving up costs of previously working class areas. Having properties, of course you should make a profit and not be subsidizing people's housing costs! But as you mentioned greed drives large corporations to just squeeze out every penny. Sounds like your tenants are really lucky - which is why they stay with you for 7 years!
I'm so glad the owner of these apartments where I live only raises the rent every three years and it's $50 dollars but when new people move in they are paying a lot more than me for a two bedrooms.
Gentrification sucks for people who can’t afford the rising rent or taxes, but what I see happening right now is corporate greed. I just moved into a new build rental, and there are currently at least six other houses for rent on my street and the adjoining street. These companies are scooping up homes seemingly above market value. The appraiser who came by my previous rental last year said that homeowners would be mad at him when the appraisal came in below what they paid because some of them took out short term loans from private lenders thinking that prices would continue increasing, and they were dependent on higher appraisals so they could qualify for traditional mortgages. It’s a mess out there.
I’m 21 being forced out of my place that was 1,025 when I moved now it’s going to go up to 1450 and o only been here less then 2 yrs. I have a 4yr old and we have utilities im behind a little on rent and have no idea what I’m going to do. Don’t mind me tho I’m abt to support you and your channel by commenting a storm in the comments… prayers to you love !
First time watching you. You popped up on my timeline but using discernment God wants to take you somewhere and he’s using this situation and using this platform. Thank you for your obedience in making this video. Glory to God
I have been priced out the housing market in my area. Staying in a nice neighborhood is expensive. I’m praying for a breakthrough for me and all that are suffering in this world. You are in my prayers. 🙏🏾
I wholeheartedly agree with you, Akeeba. I'm not against companies making more money, but I am against them trying to do so by taking advantage of the very people who support them. Just because they can. There most certainly should be a cap on how high the rent can go up per year and based on the actual property value. There's no way that property is worth 400+ dollars than it was last year, and how could anyone sustain a 200 or 400 dollar increase on their rent every year?? The housing market hasn't been sustainable. Many categorized as "at risk tenants" can't even find housing because of corporate "policies" basically telling people they're unworthy of housing. The only reason I have a place to rent right now is thanks to God. My house is individually owned and THANK GOD they were willing to take the risk on me. Yes, we have to call out these sleezy business practices as we see it. Let's not take it lying down.
I live in Florida, was in my place 6 years and the new property manager gave me an option to stay on a month-to-month without renewing my lease and raising my rent From $1295 to $2495 And this was a three bedroom 2 1/2 bath townhouse. I found a home for $2400 a month but prior to moving here the rent here was $1800 a month. The pricing is out of control and to find a place Making three times the rent a month where individuals used to be making that to now their not , it’s hard for a lot of people.
Akeebee, I lived in CA from birth to 33 years old. However, from the age of 17 years to 33 years there was no rent control and my rent went up every year then I lived in Oahu, Hawaii and they also don’t have rent control which caused my family to pay $2,600 a month and that not including utilities. We decided if you like living in CA or HI then you hav to accept the law and pay the increase or you hav to move to a lower rent area which will put you in a higher crime area. It’s sad that renting families have to be treated this way to have a nice place to live. My family now lives in MD and own our home. Praise God for our home. I pray you figure it out and if you choose to move may God help you to find an area that pleases you and the girl’s.
Girl!!!! I get your frustration. Mine just raised my rent in March which is already a little over 80% of my income, then gave me another notice to raise it again in August. I've cut back on medicines before, there's nothing left to cut back on, unless I want to sit in darkness and don't cook anything. Everything is electric. I'm praying amongst other plans to deal with it all. They are taking disadvantage of those in need of housing. Hell is waiting @100% heat🔥🔥for the wicked. 😄 Anyways, I pray that things will workout for you. Thanks for sharing.
Since S-Corp owns so very much in the city, there should be a tenant union formed for that town. There is strength in numbers. If there was a threat of a mass exodus, there would be more concessions. You cannot be the ONLY person who feels this way. Just a thought.
I empathize with you. My rent went up $250. I’m torn between moving and staying. I love my apartment and I have a lot of space, but I feel like I could move into a much newer and renovated building if I’m paying $1450 in rent. Especially since I live in the Midwest where cost of living is fairly low….well, was fairly low lol
In the early stages of the virus, our apartment prices also increased. We live in the IE, which should equate to cheaper homes and no costly rent prices. As of late, housing prices in the IE have skyrocketed, some close to a million. When the rent increase letter was mailed to us, my mom complained against the leasing office, but not much happened. I can't help but sometimes side-eye these ruthless policymakers-no care for people’s financial instability or lack of employment during the pandemic. In other to afford a reasonable rent, you have to have three people living with you, and that's unethical. An individual should be able to afford housing and car payments all on their own. Mind you, our apartment has no central AC or heater, no washer and dryer, and no garage. As the older tenant moves out, new tenants get charged a higher price, which leasing companies love. We pay close to $1,900 for a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apt. I am genuinely surprised that they have not increased our rent as of late. The sad thing is that I LOVE California, which is why I don't like to complain.
Your upset and understandably so. Sounds like it may be cheaper, at the moment, for you to pay the increase than to suddenly pack up and move. You need time. Lift yourself out of your feelings so that you will be able to see opportunities in other States as well as internationally. How about buying half an acre of land somewhere putting a mobile home, a trailer or a barn with a garage on it? I trust that before the end of the year you will solve this dilemma like you do math equations. I'm rooting for you!
Yes, my first thought. Do not pack up and leave! Everyones rent is going up! They are now requiring 600-700 credit score especially in the west even in the hood ! It's best she take the rent increase for right now.
Hi Akeeba...One thing that you didn't even TOUCH on is the effect that moving would have on Aphiwe and Amahle. I feel so badly for your girls if you are forced to move. If you DO end up moving, I am praying to God that He will provide a way for you to purchase a house very soon, and that you and your girls will feel secure that you won't have to move ever again 🙏💖💗💗 Much Love Always For Your Awesome Family
Yes that’s actually my biggest concern! They’ve moved a lot as I sought to grow my business over the past three years, so I thought this we would be here for 3 years then buy!
Yes it’s the same at my apartment complex . My lease is up soon. And to renew my lease they have gone up two hundred dollars.. My lease is up Sept 25. And they give me until July 15 to decide whether I should resign and if I don’t month to month is going cost me even more. I don’t know how I’m going to make it as a senior on Social Security. God help me.😔
You know what works best for you but I thought you were going to live with Alena and family for awhile. You have such awesome teaching skills, you all could benefit from the extended family situation.😊 Praying for the best outcome for you
She'll make it on her own with her two children she can do it she can't live with her sister forever her sister has a family a husband and too many children her sister can do it on her own I'm pretty sure just saying
Akeeba has a big loving extended family but she's also an independent woman. She is a mother running her own household to provide her own kids with a sense of security and comfort in their own space. ( sorry teacher for the run on sentence😍)
I totally agree with both of you. She's independent and a lot of other great things. However, I was responding to the title, "I'm being forced out of my home". It sounds urgent to me so why not pool resources with family until you can do better. Nobody's saying stay with your sister forever. Cost of living in California is expensive.
Akeeba this is Peggy from California don't give up on your living quarters stay in it at this time and start looking for a home/ a couple of years ago your sister and Joe move to California and their rent was expensive/ I always let people know only way you'll make it in California is by buying a home /because the fixed loan on your home is solid and will not increase/ start looking for a home to buy for you your husband and your children /if you don't have the 20% go through FHA loan and you will only have to have 3% no higher than 10% down and with your teaching career you should qualify very well /don't be afraid of the market/ may God continue to bless your income tenfold love Peggy from California/ PS you go mama buy you a house to be secure in any state🤗😆
I feel for you East coast Sis! CA ain’t no joke when it comes to rentals or mortgages. I think in light of the current housing crisis, you should stay where you are until you can find a better opportunity for you and your family and not allow them to orchestrate the timeline for which you have to move. If you were taking both I would say stay to keep your family stable until you can find something better. Believe me, I live in North Carolina and this type of thing is happening here too. Peace and love sis! God Bless you!
Don’t forget your costs to move, they will almost certainly be more than the rate increase. First, last security, plus the rent due at your current place, moving trucks, lost time from work to house hunt, pack, utility deposits, etc. It’s almost $5k here to move for renters. I say stay put for now but start making your exit plan!
Tiny homes, trailer homes and townhouse are appreciating faster than any other home. If you can get a roommate or stay with family a while to split bills, it would be advantageous. And I don’t agree with application fees being over $50-$75 dollars. Or only having application fees applied if you’re approved.
@Akeeba I'm in NJ. My landlord will not even respond to my inquiry. They forced appreciation to raise the rents here to. I also brought heavy furniture and do not have enough income to pay more either, but I do not have another place I can afford. It's called FORCED APPRECIATION in the housing market. I am a new real estate investor and I have to find a way to afford the hikes.
I feel your struggle. I live in Las Vegas and my rent has gone up $500 and there's nothing to be done as Vegas doesn't have rent control. We have a lot of Californians moving here because California's cost of living is so high. They moved here and now our cost of living has sky rocketed.
SAME. Only not just Cali but Oregon, Washington state, and sometimes Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, and NY. Where are you? I'm in TN. It's insane. We can't hold everybody!
I feel you! I just finished moving because my landlord said he wants to use the house himself - he didn’t even give me a chance to rent at a higher price! Moving real furniture definitely made this my most expensive move, even with moving my boxes and smaller items myself with the help of friends. The nice thing is that the home I’m in now is much nicer, even if it’s more expensive, and I already feel myself lifting out of a funk that I had been in at the old place. Sending prayers that you’ll find the perfect place for your family and this will turn out to be a move for the better!
Hello, I live in so cal also, we are too a homeschooling family and we were lead here 3 years ago and I recently left work to be with my children full time and just last month the something happened to us. We had an increase of $175. After prayer we were led to stay. I pray you led wisely.
So sorry. I’ve been listening to a lot of financial ppl and they are warning that rents are going to skyrocket. Did you try to negotiate a longer lease period to see if they would lower the increase? Many landlords suffered damage due to the pandemic and some are going to try and make up for it now that those moratoriums have been lifted. If you like where you’re staying as hard as it is to accept that huge increase, if it’s clean, safe and comfortable for you and the girls do it. Cali is expensive and it’s going to get even more expensive if we go into an actual recession. Baltimore/Maryland is getting more expensive too but ofc nothing like Cali. Good luck. 🍀
5th comment here. I literally just found your channel with you doing math on the mirror with your daughter, so I clicked on your name to come to your main page and saw you just uploaded this video 5 minutes ago ☹️
Prayer for clarity and all things for the greater good 🙏🏿 Appreciate shedding light on an increasing problem for people all over America. Affordable housing is a right
Pray for you Akeeba, that your situation change for the better for you .you maybe have a better chance at getting a small home and just slowly increase into something bigger as kids grow up
It's so sad that this is happening all over the country, my rent has gone up by $250. in the past two years because of gentrification and inflated appraisals in the housing in my area. When the houses sell for ridiculous amounts the owners of rental properties can increase their asking rent to keep up with the property values. These are owners who have many properties and bundle them to refinance. It's horrible.
I totally understand wanting to move due to a rent increase, it has happened to me. If you love your place and the location you may want to consider cutting other expenses by $200 in order to stay.
Sorry to hear you are being forced out of your home, it is rediculous, but as you are aware very difficult times are ahead of us all, just dont move near the sea coast. You are a clever lady and I am sure you will solve the issue by buying your own, as landlords have their own agenda, too many people living on the streets. Good luck.
Wow! You are an intelligent young woman. I am a subscriber of yours. I sincerely and unselfishly took this message as very informative. Getting to know you, like I have. You‘ll figure it out. For those of us who rent it’s definitely an adventurous experience. Thank you for sharing. you’ve helped my family and I once again. Thank you
There is always someone willing to pay more. People are desperate for housing and those who can afford it, are just waiting for something to be available. If your landlord is advertising, they may have more empty units and are trying to get the current renters to cover the lost profit. Otherwise, they are sure they can get away with the increased amounts. Best wishes to you and your family. I hope you find a solution soon.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this Akeeba! It’s even worse in NYC, our rent has nearly doubled since COVID and is now about 7k a month. So many people here have to move to the south :(
They probably aren’t flinching at the idea of the house going unoccupied because they are aware of the average move in rate for the area and know it’s not a concern and if people want to live that close to the beach they’ll pay it. You said they run the town so all their homes probably universally went up.
So unbelievably sorry for you in/and this situation. This is disgusting on every level. These people are just evil for doing this to you / your family.
I’m sorry to hear about your dilemma. It’s ashamed how these corporations are allowed to do basically anything they want. I pray everything works out better than you could’ve imagined. ❤️🙏🏽✌️
I’m praying God WILL See U through. I’m assured there is a special place for people who price gouge especially during a time such as this😞 Be encouraged dear heart 🙏🏾
Sorry to hear this. I sold my condo in Sacramento California in 2020 for 240k. I had purchased it for 138k in 2015. I looked last month at Zillow and it’s now worth $338k. California prices are crazy. It’s a two bedroom two bath condo. We now rent.a 4bd 2 1/2 bath that’s cheaper than the condo in Texas. I am a Georgia native and looked at moving back home. My mom did and her rent is expensive for the area.
I'm truly sorry! We bought a smaller house in late 2019 for a transitional time. However, 2020 happened, and people POURED into our state....from where? states that have a higher cost of living, states where they could leave and keep their online jobs there after they moved to our state,. . . Translated, the house prices in our area seriously DOUBLED. DOUBLED! No one's salary around here doubled. The groceries have nearly doubled as well. So many people are "escaping" certain states. They'll tell you why if you ask them. But supply and demand......and the people moving although they don't consider themselves wealthy, they have more house money to spend than the locals. They get the nice houses. They get the land. And the realtors are RACKING UP.
I used to live in Ontario, CA but they increased my rent by $200 too (2015!) and I moved out to Moreno Valley. For 6 months before my husband got a job in Texas. It’s not THAT bad out there…. But I get why you moved. And the COProations
A lot of those places are multiple shareholders that put them money in to establish those unit and build that state and now and I'm gonna be honest a lot of time they are young partners probably 30s and 40s And they're trying to become the next million years So they don't care what do you stay or go because That's gonna pay that money
You will pay more if you move house (if you want to get a house like where you currently stay and same location). You are a sitting tenant and you wont pay as much as a new tenant.
Another thought, It may be just as expensive or more expensive if you move.. But it is understandable if you are moving based on the principle of the matter. Sadly, it probably won’t matter to Corp S though.
Mines is going up 300 if I stay. I declined to renew the lease and saw that the price of the home went up 500. I said the same that it is unethical but I’m definitely moving off of principal. Plus now the owners are being petty to get me to move sooner.
We actually moved from Ca to az to get away from the high prices we sold our home and still couldn’t buy a home in AZ the homes here are so high too. Our current rent went up $200 too after a year. We had to swallow it because we didn’t have no choice. Couldn’t afford another down payment and last months first months rent on a new place. I feel you !!!!! I just keep praying that the Lord will guide us all and help us navigate where he wants us. Where he needs us. But dang it’s so hard to scrape by.
You have no idea the plans of the Lord, if they raise your rent that much, they want you out. Moving back in with your sister may be hard on you and the girls, for a while, start saving money for your house, is best. Prayers lifted.
We’re being forced out of our property too. The old owners sold the property WHILE WE HAD AN ACTIVE LEASE. They rewrote our lease so we could move at any point and not at the end of our lease as we had in a contract we signed last year. My friend was made to leave her apartment because the owners decided to turn the ENTIRE complex into Air BNB’s . 😑
I'm in the Caribean thinking $200-400US is the rent and still I won't rent. Like WOW!!! $200US will only leave my pocket if I am paying for my own home.
I live in the Bay Area. 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment, 900sqft. Was $2100 when I moved in 3 years ago. Today I just resigned for another year and rent is now $2800. It is OUTRAGEOUS!
I live in CA. My landlord went up $200 per month last year. With the rising housing prices property taxes went up $200. Well that was the excuse last year. It’s going up again this year. I think he’s trying to get to the $500 increase to match the market. …I moved.
My rent went up $20 last year this year it went up $120. I kean I was bracing myself for an increase of $20-50 but a whole $120. We are in a recession people can't keep up. I'm convinced they want us all homeless.

My experience in life: walk away!
Yup and take money out banks stocks etc
This is why so many people are looking into tiny homes, including myself. Housing is ridiculous right now.
Yeah and where are you going to put that?? It's no different and then when the plot rental rises you have to worry about where you are going to write that thing.
Yes tiny homes is better than no home at all..🙌🏽🙌🏽
And don't stop there get some land even if you have to lease it and build, if you have a family that wants to go in with you even better get out of the city if you can they're just building over priced high rises and it's too overwhelming.
There are tiny home communities, your tiny home can be on wheels/movable….but with young growing girls, how tiny can you get?
My unit was $935. They're raising it to $1265. 😔 Ask how much our income has gone up.

I think it's better if you buy a house. 1600 is your mortgage or less in Florida. Hope you have the credit score to do it
Yes. If you have no kids. Live in your car for a while. Get a membership to a gym and SAVE! You will have a enough for a down payment in 7 months.
1,600 no way and in Florida? These are not the times to have luxury.. I’m good with a regular house…
$1600 is a 1 bedroom where I'm at. So you're doing better than me.

Akeeba I am praying for you and your family God is in control 💜💜💜🙏🏾😊
Southern Cal & NYC Outrageous!!!
Praying for your strength.
We can get out of this but we have to move as a unit...even if it is a small unit at first.
So true so so true it is happening all over the states is happening in New York here it's just ridiculous what they are doing
I'm so glad the owner of these apartments where I live only raises the rent every three years and it's $50 dollars but when new people move in they are paying a lot more than me for a two bedrooms.
@@VeeShay1 that means they’re not turning a profit.
My aunt is going through this too. From 700 to 950 for a studio in Chicago (no amazing amenities). She's also newly retired with vision issues.
Queens, NY...
1850 FOR A STUDIO...
If you love the West so much move to a less populated state. Or maybe cross the Border... Alana will miss you😥
It's hard out in LA, we had no other choice but to move literally out of the country in Europe Haven't looked back! 😓
Anyways, I pray that things will workout for you. Thanks for sharing.
It's just plain wicked!
@@1obedience It sure is. smh
This makes me so sad to hear your living situation it sounds like ur stuck
Are you able to relocate/downsize?
Can you put a down payment for a home? My friend only had to pay 20 thousand all together for down payment closing cost inspection and title.
@@ayshiacunningham5843 I'm trying to see what can happen by the end of my lease.
Wow, beautiful advise!
❤🙏🏾
Correct
Yes, my first thought. Do not pack up and leave! Everyones rent is going up! They are now requiring 600-700 credit score especially in the west even in the hood ! It's best she take the rent increase for right now.
Great advice. Listen to her Akeeba. Do you have a channel?
I'm in North Carolina an our rent went up $400.00 costing us with water bill included 1730.00 per month. That is too much here.
God help me.😔
Praying for you! (Luke 1:37)
Remember the movie Wallstreet when they said greed is good. That is America in a nutshell.
Same in D.C..💯 A lady was like "if you don't let me know today if you want the unit, it will go from 1500$ to 1700". I was like never friken mind.😒
Realize not all people love others as you do.. some will starve people out.
TRUST GOD
You know what works best for you but I thought you were going to live with Alena and family for awhile. You have such awesome teaching skills, you all could benefit from the extended family situation.😊
Praying for the best outcome for you
She'll make it on her own with her two children she can do it she can't live with her sister forever her sister has a family a husband and too many children her sister can do it on her own I'm pretty sure just saying
Akeeba this is Peggy from California don't give up on your living quarters stay in it at this time and start looking for a home/ a couple of years ago your sister and Joe move to California and their rent was expensive/ I always let people know only way you'll make it in California is by buying a home /because the fixed loan on your home is solid and will not increase/ start looking for a home to buy for you your husband and your children /if you don't have the 20% go through FHA loan and you will only have to have 3% no higher than 10% down and with your teaching career you should qualify very well /don't be afraid of the market/ may God continue to bless your income tenfold love Peggy from California/ PS you go mama buy you a house to be secure in any state🤗😆
😊🙏🏾
I agree. I live in California (The northern part) as well. Currently looking for a house as well.
This is happening across the country even here in Atlanta. You’re not alone.
Akeeba I believe this rent hike is all over. It doesn’t matter if your renting from a private property or a corporation it just bad.
I understand your frustration; I live in San Diego. I'm relocating in August due to the cost of living. Wishing the best outcome for you,
Don’t forget your costs to move, they will almost certainly be more than the rate increase. First, last security, plus the rent due at your current place, moving trucks, lost time from work to house hunt, pack, utility deposits, etc. It’s almost $5k here to move for renters. I say stay put for now but start making your exit plan!
My rent went up a lot this year also. It was $1655 and went to something like $200 more just for a one bedroom one bath. This is insane.
Send them a cease and desist and a 1099A. Learn TILA consumer law, fair housing law. If they are not following the law, time for a lawsuit.
Tiny homes, trailer homes and townhouse are appreciating faster than any other home. If you can get a roommate or stay with family a while to split bills, it would be advantageous. And I don’t agree with application fees being over $50-$75 dollars. Or only having application fees applied if you’re approved.
Me and my two older sisters and our families all moved in together so we can survive this madness
Peace be with you 🙏🏼🦋
I definitely feel for you. In Florida it is insane! I have one friend who had her rent go up $600 and another that went up $800 in one year! Madness!!
I went form $1474 here in Florida to them wanting $1909 from me in order to stay.
I agree my senior living apt complex went up on my rent $400..☮️& blessings
Prayer for clarity and all things for the greater good 🙏🏿 Appreciate shedding light on an increasing problem for people all over America. Affordable housing is a right
Pray for you Akeeba, that your situation change for the better for you .you maybe have a better chance at getting a small home and just slowly increase into something bigger as kids grow up
Girl, you need to move OUT of Cali!!! I don't understand how anyone other than millionaires can afford to live there.
I’ve been in my home ( rental) for ten years! I received a notice Friday that I have 60 days to move! I’m stressing😭 rent went from $1600 to $3000
I'm so sad, you taught us so much. I hope that you have a smooth transition and have a better place than you could ever imagine. Blessings 🇺🇸🙏
I am on a fixed retirement income, have lived in this house for ten years and moving is not an option.
I totally understand wanting to move due to a rent increase, it has happened to me. If you love your place and the location you may want to consider cutting other expenses by $200 in order to stay.
My rent is going from $1099 to $1583 for a one bedroom apartment. I totally understand. It’s ridiculous!
Thank you
I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I pray God provides for you and your girls.
Oh my that's what I was thinking such a bad situation.
Akeeba, you are a very smart woman. Cali, is for the Rich ! It's all HOLLYWOOD! Not a place for a young family.🙄💕
I am in the same situational having your home it’s great pleasure!wish for you 😘🍀
There should rent control in all states! 🇺🇲
I’m so sorry you’re going through this Akeeba! It’s even worse in NYC, our rent has nearly doubled since COVID and is now about 7k a month. So many people here have to move to the south :(
$7,000 a month?! That's 84k a year! I'm shocked anyone can even live there 😮
@@coloredpencils01 yup for a nice apartment that doesn’t have roaches it’s about 7k and that’s on the lower end!!!
They probably aren’t flinching at the idea of the house going unoccupied because they are aware of the average move in rate for the area and know it’s not a concern and if people want to live that close to the beach they’ll pay it. You said they run the town so all their homes probably universally went up.
Electricity too. What r we gone do smh
Everybody's rent is going up and soon many will be homeless and jailed for being homeless.
As good as you are with what you do it will work out.
I’d love to help you market yourself.
You’ve helped me so much.
I used to live in Ontario, CA but they increased my rent by $200 too (2015!) and I moved out to Moreno Valley. For 6 months before my husband got a job in Texas. It’s not THAT bad out there…. But I get why you moved. And the COProations
Some places have a rent percentage limit. For example in Ontario Canada landlords can only raise price by 2.5 %.
All these tenants should do tiny houses and let all the houses be empty, let’s see what they will do .
Exactly
Good luck and I pray you guys find a better more affordable place to live. ❤
This is happening to my city as well. Not enough jobs either. I live in a college town.
Yes really pray about it because everything is on the rising...
I've been looking at areas I can cut back. Noticed I don't need to have such a large premium. Also cutting back on streaming services.
…I moved.
Same here in Texas at most apartments.
Praying that everything will work out for you. Stay strong, keep your head up. Things will come together. You will be blessed with much more.🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤
I live in NYC. I feel your pain.
$200 is a big increase for working class people for sure. I heard Another about a girl who's rent went up by $700 in NY.
My rent went up $20 last year this year it went up $120. I kean I was bracing myself for an increase of $20-50 but a whole $120. We are in a recession people can't keep up. I'm convinced they want us all homeless.
They do.
