This worked for me, my phone was already wired as you described in part 2. Just had to flip that bias spring to get it to work with my VOIP interface. Thanks Chris!
Awesome video man, i remember seeing a video where the guy built an emergency light run off the phone line, he recons it was 75VAC at 25Hz when ringing and about 50VDC idle voltage, interesting in australia we have a different dial tone which is only present when you lift the handset, DC sine wave/waveform I would assume Got me thinking, one of my favourite phones was the Telstra touch phone, the sound of that ringing at a fish and chip shop… memories
Thank you very much for the video.I have a german fetap 615 1a which has a totally different system and i have the same problem it works but not ringing.do you have any idea to fix it.
Not without seeing it… Check out the second video and see if that gives you any direction. It is the same phone as this video, but maybe you can look at the wiring and see if it’s set up in a similar way
İndeed the wiring is different but principle must be the same.i changed one of the connectors and managed to connect the ring to the line.now it works.thank you very much.
Hi I want to get one that doesn't ring but that works to make outgoing calls. Can you still make outgoing calls on them without modifying? Thanks for your help
Without performing this modification, all other aspects of the phone work as they should. However, if you have phone service from a cable provider or through the internet, you will need a pulse to tone converter because those providers don’t work with rotary dials natively. Visit oldphoneworks.com They have a couple really good pulse to tone converters. One is a simple plug in affair that will make the phone work as it always did. The other is installed inside the phone and will give you * # and speed dials. Really cool stuff.
@@chrisrichard298 thanks, yeh I just discovered that after buying my 1974. 746 online yesterday. Wouldn't have bought if I had known but I love the history of it so I probably will buy a pulse converter.
My phone has lots of different wires to the one in your video, the four from the wire are red, blue, green and white! I thought maybe they might be the same as yours but in different colours, but i don’t have a black cable like you did - i wish i could attach a photo here but alas!
@@chrisrichard298 Yes I did I tried to move some connections around my switchboard is much different set up than yours I have a lot more wires connections .
@@bigalsguttersandlandscapes909 What kind of phone is it? Who makes it and what is the model number? Is it Western Electric, ITT, Stromberg Carlson, Cortelco, or something else again?
@@bigalsguttersandlandscapes909 That model is a 2 line phone, and it certainly does have a boat-load of additional wiring. Here is a link to a wiring diagram for that phone. Make sure the ringer is connected to the line you are using. If you can be more positive about the model, we have a better chance of getting it working. www.telephonecollectors.info/index.php/browse/wiring-diagrams/stromberg-carlson-1/3921-s-c-575b-and-550b-telephone-wiring-diagram/file

That's something I've never encountered before. Have you watched part 2, just to be sure that isn't the problem?
