  • The Coronet's 1966 426 Wedge engine is now pretty complete and ready for installation. Now I know some Mopar experts will say I painted it the wrong color but if you have been following along, you'll know that this Coronet's 426 Wedge engine came from Chrysler Orange! It was hand installed by Chrysler off the assembly line since they were not set up for it and some modifications had to be made to fit it in the new 1966 body. There was not a "numbers matching" motor for this build as they would have built it from left over stock 1965 and older. There is no records of what year the block was or what was done internally to it. Based on the original owners recollection, it had "more power" then other 426 wedge rides. I believe based on the purpose of its build, they most likely beefed it up or possible used the Max Wedge internals. This motor was built with a high compression and a few mild goodies close to what I believe it may have had.

Hey the cars lucky it had the build sheet, If not no one would know these cars ever existed, and we would’ve raced the car. We didn’t have the money to fix it the way it deserved so we used old parts we had to get it together and take to shows. Glad to see Jim taking care of the car and giving it everything we couldn’t.

@LittleBigHobbs ya did right by that car and that's what matters. It's a car with a neat history. Much like my roadrunner I have owned for 45yrs.

Do you have any actual info. or specs or how this in any way ties in with "Mr. Norm" ? I know his products but can't recall a "Gentle Ben" 426 ? Thanks

Sure do. I have the Chrysler Motor Corporation Car Record Card indicating it was shipped to Grand Spaulding Dodge, There is a Dealer Code 57147 that is for GSS, The only ad ever found for a 1966 Street Ram is in a 1966 Mr. Norm AD, tracing original ownership and Galen has reviewed all the documentation. "Gentle Ben" had nothing to do with Mr. Norm, it was the race car's name given to it by the second owner. Basically painted on the car.

@@AngryCylindersthere was a few of these made, possibly four total. Another one still exists.

@@2HacksGarage So far to my knowledge none other then this one has been public or produced documentation. There are 2 others that were registered with Galen but not seen by him or anyone that can back it up and I don't believe they have documents. I am guessing more are possible but since the 426 Hemi arrived earlier then Chrysler expected, I'd also guess they stopped work on hand making 426 Wedge Coronets. Mr. Norm at GSS would have got them and in his ad he says Coronet (singular) "Would you Believe? BRAND-NEW '66 CORONET 2-DR STREET RAM" "426 Street Ram 2-DR Sport Coupe 4-Speed, Full Factory Equipment" That ad says allot! For Mr. Norm to say "Would you Believe" tells me it was a unicorn even to him. "Full Factory Equipment" supports Chrysler installed it not the dealer.

@@2HacksGarage There is a silly AD in market place right now claiming to have one for 10k, no pictures and false info. I saw someone said 4 in the comments but nothing supports 4 and the other 2 that got registered have never come forth publicly to prove themselves. Until one is seen in public and documented, This is the only "known" one.

Engine should be turquoise in color, not orange.

You need to read the story about how this became. It was hand painted by Chrysler orange not turquoise. But in general you would be 100% correct
