Angry Cylinders Classic Cars is the name of the shop I use for my classic car collection. I am a true Mopar fan and most of my vehicles are A-Body and B-body Dodges. I specialize in Coronet convertibles from 1966 to 1970. This is a private collection and not open to the general public. I rarely consider restoring any cars and prefer 2nd day clean driver quality over full restoration and trailer queens. I have nothing against it, just like to not be stressed out about their perfection. Angry Cylinders is not a business and I'm not in the business of selling, however when I need to thin the herd, I will sell and trade. You can see some of the cars if available at www.angrycylinders.com
Mr. Norm 1966 Coronet 426 Street Wedge "Gentle Ben" Exterior Complete
@AngryCylinders
The exterior is complete now. Actually most of the project has come along. Need to install the instrument panel, interior, exhaust system and start it up. It's looking more and more ready for the MCACN Show in November. Also I included a walk around the shop to see the other cars (Mostly Mopar!)

The Coronet's 1966 426 Wedge engine is now pretty complete and ready for installation. Now I know some Mopar experts will say I painted it the wrong color but if you have been following along, you'll know that this Coronet's 426 Wedge engine came from Chrysler Orange! It was hand installed by Chrysler off the assembly line since they were not set up for it and some modifications had to be made ...

The undercarriage and engine area have their first coats on in the original factory color, Dark Poly Blue just the way it came from the factory and delivered to Mr. Norm at Grand Spaulding Dodge. I am really liking the stock color and no more incorrect Plumb Purple.

I have a 66 coronet 500. It has a 318 5.2. Can't figure out why smoke come from the valve covers since I just replaced all the valve stem seals. Any input would be great.
Nice selection of cars. I recently saw a 1967 Coronet RT that was red and white. Had a 440 magnum V8. I have video of it I'll be posting soon. Anyway, Thanks for sharing.
Great Lakes Dragaway & Broadway Bob!
Very cool. Been following Gentle Ben since those boys found it. I have a soft spot for 66 Coronets; I have my dad's 66 Coronet 500 that he owned from new.
I like old automobile
I owned a 66 Coronet. Engine originally was 318 Y block. I replaced it with 383. It even had 727 with console shift. Burnouts forever.
Yay 👏
Wow...nice shop/collection.
I can answer your question regarding Nalco. They are/were an industrial chemical supplier, and their earlier products focused on water treatments for steam boilers (think steam locomotives). They also were a significant supplier for additives to treat the water used in large building cooling systems that used evaporators. Many other products as well. They have been based in the Chicago area and certainly were in the 60s and 70s. The sticker is probably a parking sticker.
I remember NALCO! My dad worked for them for almost 30 years! He was a District Manager in the Milwaukee area.
Great Thank you for that info. I'm glad it was Chicago based as that fits right into the car's historical location
Looking pretty good!
Did you buy this car from the people who were advertising it I think it was about a year ago and it was purple at the time with a white top I think had yet the gentle Ben
Yes, this is Gentle Ben! He is retired now. I look at it as Superman going back to Clark Kent. It was a long debate whether to restore it or keep it as purple Gentle Ben. This car has 3 components that make it special, it heritage, it's a Mr Norm can and it was a Chrysler special order for NASCAR. After weighing all 3, I feel the most significant was the factory story why this car exists and the luck that it was sold to Mr. NORM and survived the Midwest winters as a race car is it's story. All that considered is why it is being returned to about how it was delivered by Chrysler to Mr. NORM.
@@AngryCylinders I'm from Chicago Illinois back in years ago I could have swore I saw the car used to race on Broadway Gary Indiana. You're talking the mid-70s.
NICE!
Awesome SMH.
Glad i suggested the MTs and i think they will look bad ass with the steelies and white letter tires. Beautiful work and eye for detail. I am going to make a call on the trim for ya or if you know brad harms or byron fettig those guys may have what you need.
It will look bad ass with M/T
It looks really good!
Thank you. Wow you've owned yours a long time.
I've owned a 66 coronet 440 like this for 51 years, mine is mauve poly metallic, originally a poly 318. Now has a 69 440 mild build, turned 12.53 @ 110 at the dragstrip in 90 plus heat. Full 3 in exhaust with slicks, I'm looking forward to seeing this coronet finished, it's beautiful btw.
Engine should be turquoise in color, orange wasn't used till 1968 on Magnum or high performance big blocks.
Engine should be turquoise in color, not orange.
You need to read the story about how this became. It was hand painted by Chrysler orange not turquoise. But in general you would be 100% correct
What mods did. You do to the motor
Your doing such a great job on ben. As for tires MTs or goodyear is the way i would go.
I'm leaning that way
Show blackwalls and dog dish caps. It's looking good.
I had painted my 67 Dart GT, midnight blue Metalic! It was beautiful. Looked black sometimes. Blue other times..
A comment on the Mr. Norm headers. When I moved to Michigan in the late 80s, I bought a home from an older hot-rodder. He shared a Mr. Norm story related to a Dodge Super Bee he bought new in the late 60s. It had the big 440 motor and he would race it occasionally and in day Mr. Norm was one of the few places in the mid-West that had a chassis dyno. He decided to drive over to Chicago and get a set of their headers on the car and look to see what level of HP gain could be achieved over the stock "hi-flow" cast iron exhaust manifolds. They checked the HP to the rear wheels before switching over to the header exhaust system, and found they gained 100 HP to the rear wheels after the swap. Not sure what else was done to the exhaust system besides the headers, but apparently these headers were reasonably effective. Probably similar to the ones you have.
Hi, Where do I buy those kind of dollies? Thx
store.uscartool.com/mopar-car-moving-wheel-set.html
Looking pretty good!
Nice solid car to restore and very rare. I'm guessing 450- 500 horsepower.
Maybe
Nice job John’s …………looking great
They are doing a great job!
LOOKING GREAT!!!
Thank you
Thanks, Credit goes to the Owen's for finding it and documenting it. I'm going to be it's caretaker and give it a nice Mopar home.
Found the article on my Google feed, man I think it's really cool that you found that car. #GETITBACKONTHEROAD
Glad to see that old Mopar getting the love & attention it deserves. Looking forward to seeing it completely finished.
Just as many hacks in the city 😉
Are you building the motor to max wegde performance??
Since Chrysler kept it a mystery and we know it was better then stock, I feel fair to say it is not stock and will remain an unknown mystery. Thanks I liked the question
Do you have any actual info. or specs or how this in any way ties in with "Mr. Norm" ? I know his products but can't recall a "Gentle Ben" 426 ? Thanks
Sure do. I have the Chrysler Motor Corporation Car Record Card indicating it was shipped to Grand Spaulding Dodge, There is a Dealer Code 57147 that is for GSS, The only ad ever found for a 1966 Street Ram is in a 1966 Mr. Norm AD, tracing original ownership and Galen has reviewed all the documentation. "Gentle Ben" had nothing to do with Mr. Norm, it was the race car's name given to it by the second owner. Basically painted on the car.
@@AngryCylindersthere was a few of these made, possibly four total. Another one still exists.
@@2HacksGarage So far to my knowledge none other then this one has been public or produced documentation. There are 2 others that were registered with Galen but not seen by him or anyone that can back it up and I don't believe they have documents. I am guessing more are possible but since the 426 Hemi arrived earlier then Chrysler expected, I'd also guess they stopped work on hand making 426 Wedge Coronets. Mr. Norm at GSS would have got them and in his ad he says Coronet (singular) "Would you Believe? BRAND-NEW '66 CORONET 2-DR STREET RAM" "426 Street Ram 2-DR Sport Coupe 4-Speed, Full Factory Equipment" That ad says allot! For Mr. Norm to say "Would you Believe" tells me it was a unicorn even to him. "Full Factory Equipment" supports Chrysler installed it not the dealer.
@@2HacksGarage There is a silly AD in market place right now claiming to have one for 10k, no pictures and false info. I saw someone said 4 in the comments but nothing supports 4 and the other 2 that got registered have never come forth publicly to prove themselves. Until one is seen in public and documented, This is the only "known" one.
I am so glad you got that car away from those country hacks and in your capable hands to restore it to her glory❤
Hey the cars lucky it had the build sheet, If not no one would know these cars ever existed, and we would’ve raced the car. We didn’t have the money to fix it the way it deserved so we used old parts we had to get it together and take to shows. Glad to see Jim taking care of the car and giving it everything we couldn’t.
@LittleBigHobbs ya did right by that car and that's what matters. It's a car with a neat history. Much like my roadrunner I have owned for 45yrs.
Still angry that I put the big scoop on the car huh?
Coming along nice! Can’t wait to see the car!
It will debut at this years MCACN November show in the Stevens Convention Center Rosemont Illinois
Mr. Norm, king of Mopar tuning. He held my boy when he was a baby, man did he sqaul, Norm just laughed. He was a good guy, loved talking with people .RIP Norm.
Updates are coming. Had work and family travel. Thanks for checking
What’s the deal with Ben???? You went silent!!
Just added a video. I've been traveling but Ben is currently being reassembled. I will be posting a few more videos
Wish I had a shop like that!! Awesome progress
Hi folks. I owned a 1966 Dodge Coronet 440 series, 4 dr sedan. I bought it with a spun rod bearing in 1973, and rebuilt a 361 B block, to replace the 361 w/ the bad rod bearing. It was the same color blue that you are restoring to gentle Ben. However I want to point out that my car also had a white roof. And I don’t know if your research into Gentle Ben has confirmed it was delivered as all blue, or blue with a white painted roof. Keep the videos coming. Happy to watch the progress.
Thank you
Appreciate you guys keeping us posted. Excellent work!
If the Cowl Tach was installed at Grand Spaulding then by all means replace it, If not then fill the holes and delete it. Looking good.
Looking good. Now would be a good time to add sub frame connectors…
Looks super solid! Love the original blue. Being a race car since 1970 saved my 67 R/T too.
I have a body shop behind my house in rural Idaho and I restore old cars it looks like you're getting her done correctly
What color is it going to he?
Its original Dark Poly Blue
Excellent. No more hacked up rear quarters.
Yep all corrected
@@AngryCylinders Awesome. It'll be a proper Coronet again.
Looks like works going along good on Ben
Isn’t the third “speaker cut out “ for rear defrost I believe..
Never had a Mopar with rear defroster so don't know. Odd they would stamp out the same speaker shape
