This is a tough one regarding the price, I have to say the food look superb and you certainly let us know the quality was of a very high standard. Would I have paid £51? I would have preferred £40 tops. So I guess that’s one to swerve in the future Darren. But I must say an amazing Vlog just rather expensive for you 😞 Isn’t it funny how people get interested in the right hand left hand “thing?” I’ve been called south paw, cack handed and all sorts in my time, funny thing is… as a left hander I put the folk in my left hand, obviously! So it makes perfect sense as a right handed person you’d put the folk in your right hand. Anyway, Shukriya 🙏🏻 ❤
Hello Darren, We took a few of your recommendations, and they were good recommendations. The curry hut The golden plaice but the best one was City spice by a country mile. I paid about 70 quid for the both of us with popadoms for two 3 pints of beer, a shared starter, and 2 mains. Now, the quality was fantastic we have been back 3 times since but 50 quid for one person no not me
The one thing I love about Indian restaurants, apart from the food is they still use tablecloths. They take pride in their place and in the food. £51 is a lot of money especially at the moment for 1 person but you do get what you pay for. If the food is that good I don’t mind paying that but it would normally only be for a special occasion. On the flip side if I fancied a Indian I begrudge paying less to get a cheaper Indian if it does not taste good. Great vlog
Hi Darron, yes I totally totally get you. Eating out is ever so nice. Lunch or dinner. I do strongly believe that restaurants, hotels and the whole hospitality industry are really playing the back end of covid AND this nonsense of the new cost of living crisis! I totally think as you say a casual lunch on your own should simply not cast that amount. You are fighting a losing battle I’m afraid with restaurants now as they ever so sadly will rip you off.😢😢

I used to go to my favourite Italian restaurant in North Kent for lunch and evening meals when I was working. I'm retired now and have hardly been there post Covid and during the cost of living crisis. I went back recently, had lunch and like you had a fit when I got the bill! 70% + more than I used to pay. I can just about afford Subway now! Sad, but I'm being priced out of all the things I used to enjoy!
Must admit, I thought you’d had a dupiaza first off. Don’t think the £51 was too bad for London after all there was pappad, starter, main, what looked like palak (sag!) aloo, rice, naan and a big Kingfisher. That’s ok - I paid that much for a similar meal in Dublin about 7 years ago.Just booked our trip to Delhi and Kolkata in October - shall we bring you something back??? Cheers have a good Easter mate.
At the top of Brick lane across the road on the other side of the building there’s a two level Indian restaurant, on a small one way street I can’t remember the name, I worked on a photo shoot outside a few years ago, there’s four of these restaurant’s in London… please do try to find this amazing experience…. and it will not cost you £51 , in the evening there can be queues up to 50 people deep 🍀👍🙏 great show as always thanks
I’d expect to pay £15 main dish, £5 for each sides and probably £6 for the beer. £40 tops even if in the heart of London. But at least in didn’t disappoint. Great content as always Darren
Gavin you forgot the starter and the cheese naan. First one was around 15 pounds, naan was £3.40 then there is VAT, service charges. Sides were 5.40£ per side.
the food and your response was off the charts, if i was hit with a bill like that i would have to do a runner, in my days of working the emplyees that worked in London got an allowance, i take it much hasnt changed, if you want to eat there you have to pay for the name that is serving you, in all fairness costs have soared and if these people want to stay in business the money has to come from somewhere, thanks for the vid.
Hi DJ another great vlog, food looked amazing yet again and has really made me hungry. I eat the same way as you with my fork in my right hand I have tried having my fork in my left but most of my meal went across the table. I also write with my right hand and it's definitely my prominent hand. All the best and look forward to the next vlog x
Cannot expect a restaurant in that location to price the same as a generic Indian restaurant anywhere else. Sometimes you pay for the location you are in.
£52 really Darren, it is a lot of money for one person but you pay for quality, having said that there must be hundreds of Indian restaurants in London not as expensive as that and serving excellent food it’s just finding the best ones
My go to dish is a chicken tikka jalfrezi, cant beat the balance of heat and flavour👌 Looked amazing but as a tight Yorkshireman I would have fallen over at 51.95 for 1 person. 25-30 maybe. Love the honesty & integrity with your reviews though its refreshing.
I personally would struggle to justify that price up here in Tayside, I imagine you may pay close to that in Edinburgh or Glasgow, but if I’m in my favourite Indian where I live I reckon I’d be around £35-£40 for all that lunchtime or evening!
Hi there, another great video like always the food did look really good I do agree that it is a bit expensive £51 for one person that seems quite expensive to me but the food looked really nice. Like I say to you all the time I do enjoy watching your videos and when we do come over London, I will ask you some good spots to try and do some videos. Keep up the good work
I was in London a few days ago for a city break with family. I made a special visit to City Spice based on yours and Macmaster's videos and was pretty disappointed. They only changed the table cloth when I insisted, food was mediocre and service was pretty poor. Perhaps I have been spoiled by the quality of Indian restaurants in Jersey but give me a shout if you're ever over here and I will take you to a good one. On balance however, I will let you off as I visited Pellici's last year with my daughter which was 11/10 and The Regency Cafe a couple of days ago which was a solid 9!! Cheers
@@DarrenJohn certainly is, also wanted to take my wife and son to Pellicis having been there with my daughter last year but unfortunately closed over Easter. Next time! Keep up the good work
Wow wasn't expecting that to cost over 50 quid. Looked absolutely brilliant but I think the reason it's quiet isn't solely down to it being Easter. Don't they have a fixed price lunch menu?
Good video. Thank you. £51.95 is pretty steep, considering the majority are on minimum wage and/or benefits. However, it is all relative. If the basic ingredients were purchased and cooked at home, accounting for time, it probably wouldn’t be too different to cook for one. I guess wholesale foodstuff has risen in line with supermarkets and many items have doubled over the last couple of years. £4.50 for Heinz Ketchup. £9.95 for a jar of instant coffee and over £5 for 500g of Lurpak spreadable ‘butter’
Good point not to mention gas and electricity Hard times if you on budget But the saying The rich get rich the poor get poorer 52 pound a week shopping for me
@@kizzyfarrell6156 Yep,I am ex UK and live in Australia and although we are (as yet) not doing it as tough as the UK, 52 quid (AUD$104) in Aldi here can look after me for several days and I don't mean beans on toast. When I visited UK last Sept/Oct I noticed that people on zero hours contract/minimum wage are struggling to survive; I say survive and not live. I love Darren's videos but I do feel that this one ..in the current situation..lacked a little community awareness.
It was not live. He edited it and put it up. I love his videos as I said and it was my 2 cents worth...no need to go to war...we have enough to deal with. I started watching the channel when it was pie&mash and fish&chips; a good hearty cheap feed and some sights and history of London with nice music.
@@hwallen9316 No war here, remember in a sit down restaurant you often don't know the price of the final cost of your meal until you receive the bill at the end. I could see he looked shook in the conclusion part of his video. It's not funny but I can still see his face in my minds eye wondering what did I do to deserve this? 🤣
Maybe expensive but it's a treat and you pay for the chef's skills and experience and quality of ingredients. You can pay over £20 for a pizza with hardly any of the complex flavours of a great Indian meal.
Ooh a difficult one. The food looked bloody wonderful but yes, it’s expensive but what isn’t nowadays? If it’s costing the restaurant more to buy the food and cook it they’re obviously going to increase their prices I guess.
Great vlog as always 👍🏻 The dishes that you have reviewed at Rajasthan always look good and yes I bet the taste is sensational, but £51.95 for a late lunch and only one drink, sorry but for me the price is too excessive . Would gladly pay the price on an evening with friends and family though. As always ❤✌🏻
Hi Darren, £51 for one person lunch seems pricey however as you say you had starters, sides and a beer so it all adds up and the City is rarely cheap in any restaurant. We did follow one of your recommendations and when to The India. I think we had the fixed price lunch for myself and the Mrs and that came out at around £55 for both of us. I'd like to try the Rajasthan but they don't seem to offer set price lunch, perhaps they should consider it.
I love a ruby like your good self, but £50 is lumpy, I feel. Yes, the food is, as you say amazing, City of London prices as well. I think you could get a similar meal for a more reasonable price elsewhere, but it's been a while since I last lunched in the City. Great vlog's Darren, so addictive, keep up the good work.
It's a lot for lunch but tbf, you ordered a large dinner there ! It's the City too - most of the diners are expensing their lunch or dinner and that tends to get reflected in the prices imo.
Food looked really good DJ. fantastic place. Good to see you as always.....hope you enjoy your Easter weekend. Looked good value for what you had....in central London. Like you say....it's all about the quality.
Wonderful..a must try. At a top place we usually work it out to about £50 per person. We like Poppadoms with the onions and chuckney, i love Chicken Tikka Jalfrazi..onion rice. My partner always goes for Chicken Tikka Massala. Though i am partial to king prawns.
Very expensive - BUT - you have to stack up cost on the minus side and consider that the plus side is its London prices and the food was superb as was the ambience. Tough call really.
DJ thought it was a little expensive. Maybe early to mid 40's tops. The food looked off the charts . That starter was tiny, all salad and garnish. But as your mate Lee might have say 'how much" 😂
£52 is a bit uphill for lunch but it looked very good. You probably would not question paying that if you had gone in at 7pm instead of 2pm. It has made me fancy a curry!
Looks great, I too am right handed but eat *left* , used to live in Southall, but favorite was a place in Harrow, which does Rocket Naan, I love to go specials as they can be amazing over menu items.. 🙂, or Clay Oven Ealing Broadway!
Very expensive Darren,But if it’s quality then its up to you to decide beforehand. At least you know what to expect next time you fancy going. Keep up the fantastic content mate, cheers, Bob H
Another amazing video food review dishes looked delicious but would struggle to justify paying so much for a lunch shows the true value of your recent street food reviews 👍❤
Well Darren, we went to Dishoom in Manchester. Just had 2 mains, no starter etc and only two beers. Mutton curry fantastic. £68. So no problem, you get what you pay for. That was for you a good deal in comparison to the suburbs.
Lovely music, You've played that before, what is it and who is it by? Great video Darren, yes 50 quid is a bit steep but there was enough grub for two people so eat, drink and be merry!
I do be about in London if i see you Darren I will say Hello and buy you breakfast /Lunch or a coffee i enjoy your RUclips channel its very laid back a good watch away from the noise and racket you get on most youtube channels. Well Done👏
The bill for the Indian meal was a lot for one customer but the meal is 1st class. In the city of London there are establishments who are there for people who want to pay for the service. The price alone keeps the riff faff away a bit harsh but true.
The food looked delightful, the price was absurd. I taught in India from 1984 to 1991, and had incredible culinary experiences. The inevitable pappadum and dip nonsense is bizarre; it's found in very few areas of the country, yet now it seems to be compulsory in most of the UK.
@@mikewilliams4499 Well, I wasn't doing that Mike! The comparison to India was in reference to the now ubiquitous pappadum and pickle combo in the UK, today.
Always wondered about how and why and when pluppadumms entered into the menus of British curry houses , Iove them especially if some thought has gone into making the dippages more exciting and original, must be similar how chicken tikka masala was invented, my first wife was of Pakistani origin her mum an excellent cook of Lahori cuisine and never once saw pluppadumms (sic on purpose) served by her
Cracking food Darren, even if I could afford that I morally wouldn’t pay it even in London for lunch evening meal special celebration possibly. For lunch I would have had a curry you posted some time back from that small Indian curry street vendor that looked quality for a good price
Amazing looking food and top quality too DJ. It’s most likely £51 well spent and as they say quality not quantity. I do love a good curry and jalfrezi is one of my favourites. Top quality vlog too Darren.
Hi Darren, unless my eye sight is getting better or I've upgraded my mobile phone. Which I haven't your picture quality was best I've seen it. Now the food not to fussed with large tortilla crisps for pre starter, the starter woeful 4peices of lamb. Mains seemed OK. I wondered if they serve a garlic & cheese nan. I'm not disputing it wasn't off the charts but £52 for lunch with no dessert was a bit extravagant. You could of vlogged in the savoy. In a cost of living crisis you maybe alienating your core subscribers I appreciate your search for top quality services & products but I won't be trying here, maybe one weeks worth of street food & still get change from a £50 spot. That's right Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. That was a full day's wage in the north not that long ago.
The food and the restaurant looked great. The crisp clean table linen. The food a tadge over garnished for my taste, but that said it made my mouth water. But the price made my eyes water! If you look you can still find "cheap eats" However if the food is Off the Charts, and the meal makes you happy,it was worth it. I used to say don't look at the right side of the menu, today it's a must for most people. Eating out is a treat,be it your local cafe or a 5 star restaurant or hotel .Enjoy a meal with family or friends ,even a solo trip and a snack can kick start any day.
I love the Rajastan’s (the original you went to, plus II & III all relatively close together). I always have Jalfrezi! Just heard you mention the other two whilst typing, the original I think is still the best of the 3!
Another great Indian restaurant Presentation looked amazing & again food heaven for you going by your expression 😋but seems bit too spicy for my taste buds lol🌶️ TBH think it was overpriced which would be the only negative Great vlog as always xx👍👍
Nice one Darren, the grub looked excellent in honesty, was it worth nearly £52? For me, I thought you were going to say around £40, which in my opinion would be about the mark in London these days, can't help wondering if some of these eateries are using their good food reviews to justify their high prices, but hey, if Folks pay it, can you blame 'em? We all know what rents, Council Tax etc are like in the smoke, so it's a difficult one to call really. As someone said earlier, "maybe get the same order in your other two favourites, and make a comparison, cost & quality wise". Take care.
Its all relative DJ £50 is a lot for lunch but then again if you feel as though the value is there because its exceptional then you say for what you get.Anything with a Kingfisher is good by me
The City is pricey and real life inflation is running at about 17% over the last year. Their expenses and rates etc will be high, so the prices reflect it. A great restaurant and always a favourite of mine and colleagues.
The food did look amazing (as I assumed it would going off your previous visits). As for value for money, the most I've spent on myself for a meal has been around the £60-70 but that has been for the fancy all you can eat buffet or an afternoon tea here in Melbourne and both have been amazing and completely worth it in my opinion. If I'm ordering set dishes off a menu I'd expect to spend around £50 for 2 x people (give or take) but London may be very different to Melbourne.
I am in regional Vic but had a quick look at a central Melb Indian (Gourmet Curry Hut, Little Collins). Appetizer, main curry, rice, bread and a beer AUD$58 which is around 26 GBP. I love visiting London but really wonder how people on minimum wage survive there.
❤❤❤❤This Indian spot looks very good and clean and the food looks off the charts WOW. If it is really good and your enjoying it then I would pay any amount to treat myself. thanks for sharing DJ😊😊😊
Hi Darren , great vlog as always. £50 is a bit steep but it looked fantastic. Have you tried the Goodwhich pan-asian restaurant down New Row by Covent Garden? Extremely tasty curries and bao-buns , we had their signature katsu masala. Thoroughly recommend, reasonably priced aswell. OTC 👍🍽
You are always honest , you love quality but I think that great quality was a quite a steep price , especially for one person . They need to re think their prices . Great review always honest and fare . 🤩🤩👏😘
Hi Darren. Always appreciate all the fab information re London. Food looked lovely. Most places are more expensive now. I'd probs say £40 I could swallow for one but if my son's paying when I come over I'll try it lol!! 😂 Have a lovely Easter weekend. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
Good idea Darren, to share your vids. I'm hopeful that in the near future I can visit London and if so I will be visiting some of the many good eateries that you have reviewed. In particular, the Ivy and the curry establishments. Brick Lane is high on my agenda . Wow the price was way over the top. I have a really good Indian restaurant in my area that produces amazing top quality food and has a lot of dishes on the menu that I had never heard of before. I am 74 and have a wealth of experience eating Indian/Pakistani food. My locals highest priced main is £16 and is open at lunchtime which is rare up here in the North East. The place El Raj near Sedgefield is spotlessly clean, the staff amazing and the food is 'almost' to die for.
Its £51 because you are on the fringes of the square mile. Add on the cost of living crisis, and that meal will generally be cheaper outside the city. If you think about it Darren, their clientele is higher earners, their colleagues and clients. So if they are serving up good quality food, they can charge a bit more. I am Indian, and when you said you thought the vegetarian dish was off the charts I chuckled, because most Indians eat vegetarian food. So whilst you might think you are getting Indian food, it may be that the owners are from Bangladesh. Regardless, if you want to try some more Vegetarian food there are restaurants in Drummond Street, Euston and a bit further out in Wembley/Kingsbury serving authentic food. You will know you are getting the real deal in these places because 90% of the people eating there are Indian. And I promise you, it will be much much cheaper.
I’m so glad you mentioned the fork in the right hand , that’s how I eat and my wife thinks I’m weird . I’m right handed and left footed . The only time I walk straight is when I’m drunk 🤣
Food was top notch granted, but £51 seems a tad excessive for one lunch, seems to me the cost of living crisis is being exploited by many restaurants and takeaways, certainly more than10% and after all many customers are struggling too, Great blog all the same Darren.👍
I visited on your previous recommendation - food was very oily staff were not very good and a bit overpriced. Cinnamon Tree Exmouth market ec1r is a bit better and a bit cheaper with really lovely staff.
One thing which I do not understand that why u needed beer when u r taking lunch ...don't mind I am Indian so we never do this when we usually go to the restaurant for lunch or dinner ...instead of beer u can take water also...secondly price wise yeah it's costly...but personally I think in London at the main point the price is OK. Food looks absolutely amazing.. As usual DJ u did a great job.
Great vidéo as always just à stupid question were the prices not marked on the menu when you ordered ? As that would of given you à clue of how much you were going to pay or is there extra chargés you did not know about stay safe mr John

Now that is to die for Indian! I could lick the plate right now. That is a star quality meal and worth the money. Regards..USA!
Not for me I'm afraid but it did look amazing and colourful. £50 is way out of my price range but if one can afford it, go for it.
Looked really nice DJ I am a oap in Canada that's 86$cdn, little rich for me down my local pub I could get four dinners including pints
Lamb Tikka £7.40
Rice £6.80
Saag Aloo £6.80
Jalfrezi £14.90
Cheese naan £4.20
=£40.10
Popadoms £?
Beer £?
Service charge ?
A tab bit expensive for me that Darren, keep up the cracking vlogs mate👍
DJ thought it was a little expensive. Maybe early to mid 40's tops. The food looked off the charts . That starter was tiny, all salad and garnish. But as your mate Lee might have say 'how much" 😂
Saag aloo is so underrated in my opinion, simple but absolutely delicious.
Rice+saag aloo+lime+radish+green chilly and some salt.....my lunch ☺️
Hi Darren the food looked delicious another great video thanks mate happy Easter Shane in Sydney 🦘🇦🇺
£46 should have done that I think.
£5 beer
£12 main
£15 for 3 sides
$4 cheese naan
£3 rice
£7 starter
Lovely music, You've played that before, what is it and who is it by?
Great video Darren, yes 50 quid is a bit steep but there was enough grub for two people so eat, drink and be merry!
Very Nice Darren... I'ts making my mouth water...
I do be about in London if i see you Darren I will say Hello and buy you breakfast /Lunch or a coffee i enjoy your RUclips channel its very laid back a good watch away from the noise and racket you get on most youtube channels. Well Done👏
Very kind John, thank you
The bill for the Indian meal was a lot for one customer but the meal is 1st class.
And here Down Under in Ozz..yep agree
Not sure you can compare prices in India 30 years ago to London prices today
@@mikewilliams4499 Well, I wasn't doing that Mike! The comparison to India was in reference to the now ubiquitous pappadum and pickle combo in the UK, today.
Always wondered about how and why and when pluppadumms entered into the menus of British curry houses , Iove them especially if some thought has gone into making the dippages more exciting and original, must be similar how chicken tikka masala was invented, my first wife was of Pakistani origin her mum an excellent cook of Lahori cuisine and never once saw pluppadumms (sic on purpose) served by her
@@felixcornelius2577 I had my first Indian curry in Manchester with my dad, 1971 and yes, poppadoms and dips!
Far too expensive for lunch 😳 but looked good DJ 👍🏻
Well summed up Darren, quality food, heavy duty prices, special occasion job for me, but 10 for the grub, looked delicious.
🙏🏼👍🏼
Cracking food Darren, even if I could afford that I morally wouldn’t pay it even in London for lunch evening meal special celebration possibly. For lunch I would have had a curry you posted some time back from that small Indian curry street vendor that looked quality for a good price
Amazing looking food and top quality too DJ. It’s most likely £51 well spent and as they say quality not quantity. I do love a good curry and jalfrezi is one of my favourites. Top quality vlog too Darren.
Love the food reviews but also appreciate the tourists guide around London
Another great Indian restaurant Presentation looked amazing & again food heaven for you going by your expression 😋but seems bit too spicy for my taste buds lol🌶️
TBH think it was overpriced which would be the only negative
Great vlog as always xx👍👍
Nice one Darren, the grub looked excellent in honesty, was it worth nearly £52? For me, I thought you were going to say around £40, which in my opinion would be about the mark in London these days, can't help wondering if some of these eateries are using their good food reviews to justify their high prices, but hey, if Folks pay it, can you blame 'em? We all know what rents, Council Tax etc are like in the smoke, so it's a difficult one to call really. As someone said earlier, "maybe get the same order in your other two favourites, and make a comparison, cost & quality wise". Take care.
Good idea, thanks for sharing
I think the world are having to increase...... everything
OTC 👍🍽
It did look nice Darren, but wow, expensive for lunch. At least we can count on you to be honest, choose what 😮
Oh crumbs 😮 seems a little steep the bill for one person eeekkkk love the videos Darren keep them coming
Yes London prices mate 😂
For me such a lunch is perhaps £40.00 max
Looked lovely, but too much for this Yorkshireman, great honest vid as usual, hope alls well 👍
Thanks, you too!
🥰🌞🥰Xxx
🙏🏼👍🏼
London prices, they have higher overheads(so I'm told), but still expensive in my mind. Not my sort of food though
Very honest vlog food looked amazing and tasty but for me £51 is far to expensive lunch at an Indian restaurant or any restaurant.
My local indian takeaway; Poppadoms (free), Onion Bhajis (4 of em), Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi (hot), Pilau rice, Garlic Naan = 18.73 EUROS (15.88 GBP)
You need to try Needoo in Whitechapel, best curry in The East End and also BYOB!
Darren, have you tried Ping Pong St Katherine's dock? it's delicious mate! well... if you like Dim Sum
Cinnamon Tree Exmouth market ec1r is a bit better and a bit cheaper with really lovely staff.
love your honesty Darren
Great vid as usual darren . what is the name of the music thats playing while you are eating.
I enjoyed the vlog and the food looked delicious. However, It was far too expensive. As my Mum used to say, the price would stick in my throat 😊.
Right next to the Tower, with a drink. Too right I'd pay for that! It looked bleeding lovely!!
We can't really expect to get what we pay for or the business would go bust, 50% for the grub and service & 50% profit.
52 quid for any kinda lunch is taking the piss big time…..no excuse I’d be livid no matter where I was dining!!
Brill as always darren
Another great video DJ 👍🏻🙂
Great vidéo as always just à stupid question were the prices not marked on the menu when you ordered ? As that would of given you à clue of how much you were going to pay or is there extra chargés you did not know about stay safe mr John
