If at some time in the future you could get a pocket hole jig, it can change everything! Its really coming along well!
Good luck building your home 🏠
Thank you 😊
I have always learned to measure inside dimension of windows then measure size of cut out hole to see if it will fit properly....
Enjoyed the video . Your dream is coming right along. Looks great.
Thank you 😊
Doesn't matter what it looks like right now...its a work in progress and y'all are doing a great job! Congrats!
Some window shutters will help it stay warmer...
Adding on: hey you built an entire home, one window mishap is nothing. Again, congrats 👏 👏
That’s a good way to put it in perspective. We did build an entire home! Thank you 😊
Looking great
Thanks!
Looking great guys. My advice is to work on one room at time so to do that keep one room clear. It will keep you focused on the finish. You guys are doing great!
I think that’s what will try. It’ll seem more manageable and I won’t have to keep moving everything to make space to work.
Thank you🙂
Nice job guys
WoW 🎉 nice to be inside. Happy to see the make shift kitchen for your family ❤️
The kitchen is making things much more bearable.
The house looks really nice with all the windows. You've accomplished a lot in a short amount of time.
Summers are already short here and with all the rain it’s gonna be quite the rush to have it ready by snowfall.
The bigger windows look awesome! A make shift kitchen is amazing especially when it is INDOORS. Take care guys!
Thank you!
Look great job ❤
Glad you made it inside. You can always work on one room at a time.😊
That’s the plan. Just hoping we get the insulation and wood stove in before the snow flys. ❄️
Going to be a nice size window, light and a view are always a great thing. Hey you build a whole cabin yourselves , one is bound to make mistakes we are human. I feel it is an awesome looking cabin. & property. Your blessed to be able to do this folks.
Looking great! Congrats on moving in!!!! Been watching the TN building of a cabin, awesome how people can come together to help a family in need of a home. Thanks for sharing
Thank you 😊
Please don't use your gas grill in doors...try linseed oil on porch wood... Best Wishes
Your property is beautiful! I enjoy the videos.
Only having seen a handful of pictures before we bought it, we definitely got lucky. Seller didn’t even mention a peek-a-boo view of the volcano. Thank you for watching🙂
With that gorgeous view, youll be happy with that bigger window!
It was worth the extra work. I do love the larger window.
Coming right along! You’ll enjoy the bigger windows I’m sure. We have the big 60 inch windows in our cabin and it’s nice to be able to see the changing seasons as well as the wildlife! See you on the next one!
I was so disappointed when they didn’t have the right size. More money and more work to switch to the bigger one but it’s definitely worth it for the increased light and views.
. More than once we've had a "bad" thing turn into a GOOD thing. Life's funny like that. 👍
Your hard work is paying off. 😊
Nice big window! Great job. So good to move in I’m sure!
I’m so happy to be out of that trailer. I mean, it was better than a tent but finally being able to move into the house is great!
Crack On! Great progression!
Thank you 😊
Congratulations you guys, gotta be lovin it,God Bless, your friend in Willow
Thank you!
I know what your going through. Im not in Alaska but when we built out log home as soon as it was dried in we moved in. During our self build of the home we lived in the very old run down farm house. We did projects as we saved enough money for each project. It took us many years to get it mostly finished. Doing it this way kept us without a mortgage! Good luck to you!!!
It’s going to be a long road but so worth it in the end. Congratulations on your build and Thank you.
Congratulations!! So happy for y'all 😊
Thank you!
No, I would have put flashing tape on all 4 sides, and on the outside you did it you sealed the window doors really well because you want to keep the cold out
Good job guys. Team work.😊
Thank you 😊
I am an old trained carpenter and when building something screws are the only to go because they won't back out over time and if have change something you take screw out and put it back easier
Screws are more likely to snap though. I used a mixture of both on this build. Typically, I do prefer screws.
You are doing amazing
Thank you ☺️
Windows suck, doors installation sucks , but you're doing a great job !!! Cabin looking nice ...
We keep thinking the next step has to be easier but NO. You are absolutely correct. It all sucks! But… it will be worth it in the end.
Thank you 😊
👍🏻
If you tape over the bottom-outside of the window you will block the weep holes from being able to drain outside the wall. Then the only place any condensation in the frame has to go is into your framing and insulation.
You're making great progress. Keep it up :)
The flashing tape just covers the bottom tap where the screws go. We made sure and leave the Weep holes open. Thank you 😊
glad you guys got moved in.
So happy for you guys. Great progress.
Thank you 😊
You should paint the floor if its going to be awhile before you put flooring down. Those dogs will track in everything and bare osb is hard to sweep the little pieces up.
Wow great job guys that one window won't make much of a difference guys, it's called diy. You are definitely doing a great job in my eyes
Thank you, we appreciate that 😌
Loved the video 😘👍🏻💕
Thank you 😊
Congratulations on your move in. Your home is looking great!
Thank you!
Love the photos at the end!
♥
You guys are doing great and have a beautiful property
Thank you 😊
Wow, really inspiring to see this come together--lots of hard work, but no doubt it will be worth it in the end. You make a good team and seem to take the challenges in stride -- adapt and overcome as they say. Looks awesome, your property is beautiful and this is just the first chapter of an an amazing adventure. Well done!
Thank you 😊
Good job!
Thank you!
Nothing is straight forward is it? Been there and done that. Try building a beehive from scratch! Great to follow your honestly portrayed journey.
Phil - Suffolk U.K.
I wouldn’t know what to do if things went smoothly 😂
I’d like to get bees but Chandra’s allergic to them. I don’t imagine building a hive from scratch is easy though.
Rough In window measurment is your only concern. Windows are made about 1 inch smaller in each direction for a reason. Milguard for example we would cut a spacer 1/2 plywood and put 2 pieces on the bottom sill for placing the window. Put window in hole on top of the spacers shift whole window to one side mark the window with a line down to the Tarpaper then shift all the way to the other side mark it again. Now make a mark in the middle of those 2 lines and move the window to that line and it's centered. Why do people check for level? It should be. Nail one Bottom corner then check for square. For windows that open. Solid ones no need. We never nailed the top to allow for settling.
Good job it’s a learning process 🇬🇧😊
It definitely is, thank you 😊
Love the content of your vlog. Its real and no editing to cut out the reality of your work, wether it turns out right or not. What area are you in? If I may ask. Keep the real Alaska life coming.
Thank you, we really appreciate that. We are north of Homer.
Nice Job!! LOVE the GSD’s
Thank you! They’re our little furbabies 🐾
Good job, even though I know nothing about what you were doing, but you are making progress before winter.
Thank you 🙏
That's a good feeling to be moving in. You are making good progress. Are you planning to heat with wood?
Yes, we installed a wood burner.
Beautiful driveway,
Thank you 🙂
Looks Great 👍
JUST LIKE ROOFING PEOPLE ! BOTTOM FIRST !!...then the sides, lastly the TOP !....sheesh......OnWard....
The larger living room window is a good upgrade. Americans are big on small windows, but in hindsight I think you'll find that it's better when you get the great views. It's not like you're trying to block your neighbor's view into your house.
👀 that is definitely not an issue around here.
Is the background sound , traffic on the highway? Could see cars whirring by.. through the trees?
Yes, the road is only a few hundred feet away.
I don't believe you should have put that strip on the bottom. The bottom is put on the inside, then the sides, then the top. By putting it on the bottom on the outside water will not be able to drain if any should get under/on the inside the window.
It doesn’t cover the drain holes. It sits just below them.
Did you re-nail the osb to the studs under the window?
We did, just no footage of it, sorry.
I know it was a pain for bigger window but think you guys will like it better with the bigger window in
I already like it way better!
Enjoying your channel, glad I found it 😃
Have you started a firewood pile
I'm from Alabama
No 🥴
He cut up a couple small trees that were down but it’s only 1-2days worth.
Thank you for watching 💜
Why no cripple on the left side of the window?
We did. It just got lost in editing.
Well on this video you did not show us you putting that black tape on the windows at all. There is no way we could tell you you did it wrong at all.
be careful using the grill in the house. make sure you open a window at least. don't wanna get carbon monoxide poisoning and die. :)
That doesn’t sound fun. Luckily it’s warm enough to have the windows open. I’m hoping we have a more permanent set up before snow starts.
she was right to cut the plywood also
She usually is
You could buy some meat and CAN it.
The burner on this grill unfortunately doesn’t work well enough to safely use it for canning. Hopefully it won’t be much longer and we can get a propane range. I try to get fresh meat as often as possible and there’s a wonderful greenhouse in town for produce. Once we get a fridge sorted out we should be able to get plenty of salmon and hopefully some halibut and rockfish.
PLEASE TURN DOWN THE MUSIC VOLUME. UNABLE TO HEAR YOU TALK OVER THE MUSIC. Us more mature people aren’t interested in your music being LOUD. I’m sure you videos are not geared towards the young crowd.
We had audio issues in a couple of the earlier videos and lost the talking. The music is just to fill the void. Sorry if it was too loud.
I like the music. Play it loud😊😊😊😊😊
