Damn, that Mazda 808 came with front AND rear… suspension! What a feature packed import 😂
Still a hard ride I'm sure. Thanks for watching!! Make sure to subscribe.
I listened to that over and over, thought I was hearing it wrong. Front and rear suspension, must have been in the option group that also included an engine!!!
And just as amazing, the VW beetle had air conditioning.
Another factory option, roll down windows!@@dougfisher1813
LOL. I thought the same thing.
Some of the contestants and the models were stunning! My god how times have changed.
Now they have purple hair and tattoos and look like a bag of potatoes
And act like complete morons!!! 😂
Yowsers. And that catch phrase " a new car "! Echoed in my brain since I saw all these episodes when they aired..
Processed foods have made everyone overweight….
I like Janice and Anitra, Anitra was Burt Reynolds GF in White Lightning, I think that was the movies name.....
I remember a stripped down green Camaro they gave away once. I remember thinking that it must of been one on the lot they couldn’t sell. 😄
Possibly the 250 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree (Column shift was standard on Camaros and Firebirds), or worse, Powerglide! 😂😭
@@MisterMikeTexasextremely rare
Up to today I noticed most of the vehicles these game shows featured were mostly stripped down base models like I see with rental cars.
Based on how many Vegas & Gremlins they gave away they must have gotten the same fleet discount rental car companies got.
I played hockey with a buddy who won a Subaru Justy on the price is right. The best part was watching a 6 foot 3, 200 pound giant unfold himself from a tiny car. Killed us every time! Truly priceless to see!
Wow!!!! I'm visualizing...hahahaha Thanks for watching!! Make sure to subscribe.
WOW !!! A 3,200 pound giant !
What do you feed him ?
Reminds me of the movie Police Academy when Bubba Smith ripped the front seat out of some tiny car and sat in the back seat. 😂
I like the 73 Nova description - "with better improvements to make it even better."
And bias-ply white wall tires! LOL.
It had better be better.

@@althunder4269it could not have been any worse than the 1972 model
Yea, I like how the highlights of all these cars are things like them having heaters and radios.
Just great to see the genuine glee and excitement on contestants faces!! Back when times certainly seemed simpler 🙂

Especially over a Vega or Gremlin. LOL
A Volkswagon Thing... not so much.
Yep. I remember those days well from childhood. If a working person won a car nowadays, the first question would be, "How will I afford the insurance ?"
I love the power flow thru ventilation for the 1973 Ford Thunderbird. In normal speak, it means that is what you got when you didn't have factory A/C.
I liked the Mazda sedan with " front and rear suspension " 😂
@@galeaiken3841 That one really cracked me up!
I have a 1988 pickup that has both the flow thru ventilation including wing windows, and factory AC
@dougfisher1813 I'm sure you could have both, but in this instance, that Thunderbird didn't have it. Price is Right would have mentioned A/C instead of Power Flow Through Ventilation if it had A/C. They mentioned it with one or two of the Volkswagen Beetles, but not most of them. A/C was a pretty big deal back then. They even mentioned A/C in the Blue Corvette along with the new energy absorbing color keyed bumpers.
sorta like 455 air conditioning - 4 windows down at 55 mph !
I thought you actually found the VINs of all those cars and tracked them down. I was about to say DAAYYYYYUM!
Still a great vid, tho ☺
Next time! Hahahaha! Thanks for watching!! Make sure to subscribe.
@@MEMORYLANE218 I'll subscride if you can find the VINs for those "NEW CARS!" And then run a history. It's not that expensive. I spent three bucks running the VIN on my first car, a 2001 Accord Coupe EX. I traded it in in 2017 with nearly 200k, flaky paint, etc. Got $800 for it. The car went through a couple auction houses, probably got a cosmetic restoration, then wound up with changing hands a couple times in NM and last record shows it's being driven in CO. Of course, it's a Honda and thus pretty bulletproof.
That guy who won TWO Mazda 808s, I hope at least one of those was maintained. There are people who would spend a lot of money to get their hands on one and drop a rotary engine in it to make a RX3 clone or a 14B in to make it a clone RX3 restomod.
That’s exactly what I thought. Why else would you include the phrase, where are they now? I thought we were going to see people actually keeping the cars this long, or maybe a brief story about how it got wrecked or something lol.
i was waiting to see the cars now. not then.
The way these shows work, you don’t even necessarily get the car they display, but rather you can choose one from the dealer for that value. If you want upgrades/options, you’d pay for them. Actually, as contestants were required to pay income tax on the value of the winnings before collecting their prizes, many people “sold” the car back to the dealer and used the cash to cover taxes on their total prizes.
I believe I actually saw the Vega rusting as it was sitting there. Thank you for this, now I’ll be walking around all day say “A NEW CARRRR”.
You did indeed ... makes me LMAO what these suckers were really getting 😂😂. and Gremlin=worst car I ever rode in UGGH 🤮💀(was in middle school)
I drove a vega 😂 ❤
I owned 6. Vegas. They wood rust out I'd swap motors into later body's and run em 2or3 years
MY FIRST JOB AT 16 WAS TO GO DOWN THE CHEVY DEALER AFTER THE RAIN AND WIPE OFF THE RUST STREAKS
@@James-yg6em Vegas rusted on the lot and showroom. Floor
6:52 - man she looks thrilled... a VW Thing.
She's friggin' gorgeous tho!
Legend has it she became a hippie with that VW thing. 😮
The Vegas likely went to the scrapyard before 1980, the Novas likely were swapped with bigger engines to became ¼ mile superstars, the Thunderbird was probably used in The Crow before landing in a North Carolina salvage yard, waiting it's day with the crusher, and the Opel....well they're still wondering what was so unique about being equipped with a rear view mirror. 😅
The bugs were squashed and the thing was just too ugly to do anything with but reincarnate it back into the tin metal garbage cans it started out as. The Mustang likely met its match with too many crowds before finding itself around a utility pole, and the Corvette is likely in some old man's garage waiting on sunny Sunday weather.
Post of the week.
Accurate.
When I bought my house in 2002 I found a can of that bug and tar remover in the garage. I used it until it was all gone. Stuff worked perfectly.
I have some, it does work pretty good 👍
I've seen the vinyl top cleaner can in my old man's car cleaning supply hoard
Oh wow!
Have an old can of that as well! Smells like turpentine!!😅
Now grant you as far as the Chevy Vegas, the factory 4 banger was worthless, but the ones with the 4 speed transmissions were gold because you could easily put a small block v8 in it and the 4 speed would bolt right up. Drag racers loved them.
My neighbor had one. The aluminum alloy block 4 cylinder engine, if I recall, tended to just melt like a grilled cheese.
He sold it to a guy who was going to turn it into a gasser. 😂
Wow Anitra Ford from the Longest Yard movie with Burt Reynolds. Never knew she was a Price is Right model. Then again I was only 10 years old when this first aired. Love the Vette.
This is a great idea for a video mini series! I watch the Price is Right almost everyday from the mid 70's to the end of Bob Barker era. The cars were always the highlight for me! It's cool to be able to see some of the early cars before I was old enough to remember them.

This was at the height of the "Gas Crises" as you can see by all the economy cars.
True! Thanks for watching. Make sure you subscribe!
100% correct and all the 72-73 cars were all JUNK economy cars that the big 3 automakers could not sell look how many Vegas and VWs were on the show trying to give away their junk cars
I remember those days.
This was a fun video to watch looking at retro cars and all the different types of vehicles they had back then in comparision to now.

One of my elementary school teachers won one of the Bugs. She opted for the cash value. You have to pay California sales tax on your winnings. She said she couldn't afford it. Not one of the ones in this video. She was my teacher in '78. I believe she may have been on Price is Right back in 76 or 77.
I bet the take rate on the cars was likely pretty low. Cash value pays taxes on likely all the prizes won. I’m sure some people did take the cars - but maybe not a Gremlin, Vega, or Opel!
THE BLUE 💙 VETTE WAS THE NICEST ONE OF THEM ALL
Thanks for watching. Be sure and subscribe!
Yes, you can win this Chevrolet Vega! It's rusting as we speak, but don't worry about that while the engine suffers from premature wear on the silicone heads! You'll be wondering what were thinking if you win this car on the Price Is Right!
The wear was from iron piston rings riding in an aluminum block without steel liners. The cylinder head was actually cast from iron.
Or it’s now a drag car.
As stated above Vegas are perfect drag machines. Drop in a 350 small block with a Holley, headers a Camaro rear and a 4spd and you're golden.

Oh My GOD, OH MY GOD...i don't believe it...1973 opel sedan with that 4 speed transmission and AM stereo....thats my dream car🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Rolls-Canardly was on the show now and then as well. For those not familiar, it’s a car that rolls down one hill and can hardly get up the next one.

It’s great to view new vehicles from the early 70’s in pristine condition, especially when I was a college student and wasn’t yet ready for several more years to purchase one. 🚗
Glad you enjoyed it
Those bad boy cars like Barker's beauties had staying power through the 70s and early 80s. Just like The Price is Right beautiful women, it was the American domestics which grabbed the attention of viewers because we saw the same vehicles on the highways and bi-ways where we lived back in the day. The show, the vehicles, the background music, the fashions and Bob Barker all had an amicable blend in the cohesion of the culture at the time. Thanks for the great video.
This is FANTASTIC!! Please post MORE and MORE of these soon - especially Cadillacs!

I miss the words "Sedan Deville",never to be heard on the show today!
Ya, everytime I drive past a junkyard, I can't help but think that every one of them was once brand new on a dealer's lot - or in the showroom..
Every old crappy vehicle was new and loved at one point.
Everything comes to an end. Thanks for watching!! Make sure to subscribe.
I completely agree. In fact I bought the Jetta I drive today which was to get junked when all it needed was the timing chain replaced. Otherwise, complete and clean with a Kenwood stereo.
That was neat! They really pushed Vegas in the early days. Those that won them would most likely be on their second engine after a year of ownership..
You got that right, I had a '76, absolutely the WORST piece of crap ever.
I had a 71 vega gt 350 V8 hipo 375hp b&m turbo 350 trans and a monza rear end. I loved that car
Thanks for watching!! Make sure to subscribe.
Cryin' shame the Vega had such a short life due to serious design flaws. I remember renting a Vega at Atlanta Hartsfield airport back in 1977. Obviously a nearly new car. I thought it really drove, rode, and handled well. Nice driving car but, I also knew those cars were made to fall apart. The 140 engine's problems were supposed to have been fixed for the '76 model year but, the car's reputation was toast by that point.
Vegas had really bad engines but the car body was just as bad they would start rotting out in a couple years of owning a Vega

I thought you meant you tracked down the winners of some cars and that those cars are still on the road today. That would be interesting to see.
Wow, nice job putting this together! What memories!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I was just wondering a month ago after watching re-runs on RUclips if their were any surviving Price is Right vehicles out there. ✨🚗✨👀😱😄
Would've been cool to know what for motor the Mustang & the Thunderbird had, the days when the Thunderbird could've had a 460 in it.
Every car was a no option base model.
4cyl, no a/c, one had a rear view mirror, though!!😂
Mustang would have been the 6 cylinder base model. Still looked cool, and you could fit some Cragers and glasspacks on it. The T-bird I think only came with a V8 back then? Maybe a 302/2?
1:38 Wow! Never saw a Thunderbird on the Price is Right, a 1973, the most beautiful year.
If I remember correctly, the T-Bird was built from a Lincoln chassis and included the same engine;
nice to see a shine on those cars, usually on old tv shows they have a dull flat finish. i had heard that the contestant had to pay the taxes, and if they couldn't they didn't get the car.
They don't call it the malaise era for nothing.
"It's a new Vega sedan. It'll need a new engine by the time it hits 30k miles."
Yeah by 73 you'd think people knew about this. I guess some of the contestants were just clueless about it, they were still jumping up and down.
@@TuneStunnaMusicUnfortunately there was no internet back then and no instant access to the information we have today. A lot of people bought a car solely on looks or they bought a car because someone they knew bought one. In many cases people saw a new car and it's new soo it must be a great car, I can only imagine how many of those Vegas needed new engines or the bodies already had rust holes within a year or soo. It wasn't uncommon to walk into a Chevrolet Dealership in the 70s and the Vegas already had rust in the door jambs, I remember one guy, his job was doing paint resprays on brand new Chevrolet Vegas, that's all he did all the time.
More like 3k miles.
I had a 76 Vega coupe. Bought it used in January, 1978 with 23,000 miles on it. I kept it until the early 1990s and had around 90,000 miles on it. Never burned oil and IIRC it had just a very small bit of rust behind the front wheels when I sold it.
Of course mine was a Cosworth Vega, so that might have made a little bit of difference. 😄
Oh, I doubt you’d have to put an engine in at 30k miles - by that point the whole car would be rusted out anyways! 😅
Cracks me up....the descriptions were really interesting. Bragging about front AND rear suspension, deluxe bumpers, heavy duty radiator, exterior decor, steers easily, and so forth. Crazy.
Ha! Thanks for watching!! Make sure to subscribe.
Liquid cooled!
Actually the "Heavy Duty Radiator" was a deliberate selling point as the Vega radiators were tiny, and was a fix for the major engine design flaws that caused them to overheat and warp.
Never knew I needed a video that shows these cars new in a great light. Now I have to see more!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching. Be sure and subscribe!

So glad to see this. I ALWAYS wonder what happened to those cars. I also wonder if any of them are still on the road. I do know of course that the cars seen are not what they get. I know of a winner who was able to go to the dealership and pick out the color etc
You wonder what happened to them? Those cars were cheap POS and were already rusting out at the dealers, so they're long gone. I was a grade schooler then, I saw it all. how ironic that I now own a rust free 73 car, but it's not USA made
Such a simple time, simple cars we could work on.
I always remember when they would list off the features...they mostly included ...and California Emissions!...
It looks like the same car was the prize multiple times. The green Vega, orange Beetle and blue Gremlin seem to be in more than one showcase. I would have liked to have won the 74 Vette.
They probably used the same studio cars for the entire model year and delivered the actual prize to the winners through dealers in LA they had an arrangement with or through one local to the winner. That would also give winners some flexibility as to colors and options.
Dealerships had the same pool of cars to offer as demos for prizes. Winners would get a voucher to pick up a car at their local dealership- which would then try to upsell you into a higher trim model to make a profit.
Different colors but same description. Thanks for watching!! Make sure to subscribe.
@@woozleboy Actually when contestants won the car they were given a voucher for the full retail price (with tax) of the car and in some cases pick the dealer they wanted to get the car from. So the dealer they choose made money on the sale, some may have wanted to upsell additional accessories of course that was at the cost of contestant along with the licensing fees. One other overlooked tidbit was the contestant received a 1099 or equivalent tax document (additional taxable income)at the end of the year and had to pay income tax on the prize value because it was consided income by the IRS and state tax boards. I won't be surprised many sold them just to pay the taxes.

I love these videos.
The police in my town, bought ford Maverick with a 302. Back in the day, gas shot up to 56 cents a gallon. Economy was big. Then the lowered the speed limit to 55mph. Life sucked.
Can't get over that Ford didn't base the Mustang II on the Maverick. They jumped the shark by trying to make a Pinto into a Mustang.
I actually remember when the Mustang II was first introduced in 1974. Just awful and the styling was so badly executed. The depreciation of the previous Mustangs suddenly leveled off and the used Mustang market was strong because the Pinto-stang just rubbed Mustang buyers the wrong way. The Fox-body Mustangs finally saved the marque.
Your right. The Maverick , had a wide body, for it's day. Would of been a natural.
That gremlin X, Yellow Nova, all the cool imports, these are some nice cars. Really liked this video, made me subscribe.

The 73 mustang was the greatest cruising machine ever. But Ford cheapened it so much that most rotted away.
I was born in 1961, in my early years, I saw too many great cars rot away from cheap chinese steel.
Not a big fan of Mopar but a huge fan of AMC, I recently acquired a 2003 tj. It's old school and completely awesome.

That blue Corvette was newer than '73. The '73 still had the chrome rear bumper. Still nice to see and appreciate them all though.
Id say its probably a 74, 75 or 76. It has the "Stingray" emblem on the fender 1976 was the last year they had that.
Right, and only distinction I know for 1974 is the
vertical split seam in the rear plastic which is not shown.
It is a 74 and can only be a 74 as it has no bumperettes that were on 75-up. Also 1974 Corvette production began in August 1973 so that fits there too.
