I'm working on a C5180 this morning. Always a "false" paper jam. Sometimes cycling the power clears it, but the paper jam error always comes back. Now, the C5180 doesn't have the sensor which you pointed out in the beginning. But, that for sure is the first thing to check, if your printer has that. I removed and cleaned the ink cartridges as you explained. The Paper Jam error went away. At least for now .....
*Great!* Glad you were able to fix the problem Bryan by cleaning the ink cartridges. Since the ink cartridges are the "cheapest" part of any printer setup, I think that's why they seem to have the most issues. The sensors on those cartridges should definitely be the first thing to check for damage or dirt/ink and clean, since that's normally where you'll see the majority of errors whether its "Paper Jam" or "Cartridge" errors.
