What they're now calling the "Police Engine Idle" feature that allows you to remove the key and keep the engine running was a standard feature Ford included on the 1986 Ford Taurus I had when I was a kid. Gotta love the Ford marketing team.
I had a 1991 Mercury Sable and I am pretty sure that's just a poorly designed or worn out ignition system. I say this because my car did the same thing and it didn't feel like a planned feature. I could turn the engine off, put the car in auxiliary mode, pull the key out, and then turn the ignition to start the car.

who cares, i dont understand why tesla people act so smug. just literally talk shit just to talk shit. some police departments are located in areas where there are no charging networks. plus the waiting time to charge so they cant take any emergencies. where as gas only takes a couple of mins. there is pros and cons to each ICE or EV automobiles and each department do studies to figure out which is better for them like where i live the closest charging station is over 150 miles away

Would love to see companies to develop dedicated EV police vehicles for markets around the world. Great job by Ford, but they need to bring similar program for Europe to,
I must admit that given the fuel & ICE related Servicing costs of any Police vehicle would be a very large part of it’s full cycle life cost, that Ford have not at least started to design an EV version/equivalent of the current gas powered Explorer.

FUD motors will be BANKRUPT in 2025. Tesla model Y & 3 outsold FUD PD vehicles in the USA, as well did the Cybertruck , model X & model S. all can be UP-ARMORED by unplugged UPFIT.
