Thanks for going to all the trouble you do in filming and uploading these videos Andy - I really feel I have experienced the harvest myself this year!! What with the blowing down and maintenance checks each morning, and the late finishes, you certainly look after the equipment well and make full use of each day. You deserve to be very well thought of and respected by your dad and the company’s owners!
Not sure what rainfall has been in Cheshire but it's definitely been short on green and yellow harvest windows. Really enjoyable video as always Andy was getting concerned it was going to be an Eric free video. He looks a great cab friend
80 mil of rain here in Denmark. The first 2 weeks of august had no rain so the harvest here in Denmark almost finished in 2 weeks. Now only a few still have some spring barley and beans left to cut.
Another cracking journal Andy, I really enjoy seeing your work (I worked on farms aback in the 1980’s!). In reply to your question re rainfall, I live on the Isle of Skye and we had virtually no rain at all in August (surprise surprise!) but we had a really wet June and July.
On the day you were filming 30th August we had 195 mm in the afternoon. A localised storm that just hung over us and kept building. That was in South west Norfolk but eight miles away a farmer friend had 6mm. Up until then we were very dry!
Can remember harvest 2007 was in a new Holland combine when we got that sinking feeling - luckily hit the reverse quick and managed to back out - the ruts were 4feet deep- the farm next door weren't so lucky there's was stuck for thre days 😀
Northern Ireland, ground is saturated haven't been able to get the spring barley harvested yet and tried the potatoes the other day and it was a mistake. Yes it's early days yet but the weather would need to wise up a lot if we are gonna be able to get everything out. Love the vids keep it up!
It's been a very wet August I did manage to put my mower on and cut about 4 acres of grass, but the baler broke a belt so I had to get someone to finish it for me. From Cornwall, it's so nice to see the harvest coming in from nr to my home Area.
We had 132 mm in Hungary at Letenye. We got rain almost every week. Luckily, we already finished all the harvest and even seeded the canola which got a good rain after I sprayed it.
We got 180 mm in Cork, Ireland. Only finished yesterday when we should have finished about 2/3 weeks ago. Yields were a way down and lost a load of straw cause of the rain
Great video Andy, 2012 the year of cutting in October!! 70ml andy here in netheravon according to my allottment rain gauge. Them feeder housing chains are rattling! Good outdoor filming george!!
Who is George. You always speak of him but we have never got to see him. Is he a friend or a family relation. Would be great to see more of him and Jerome in your videos. As always great vids from you.
35mm in western Finland. So far september has been wet. We had very very dry and cold spring. Rain came wrong time and now we have two corps... Ready one is like 10-15cm tall moisture like 10% and the second is normal height and all green. Normally we would have harvested all by mid september.
Zero rain here in Los Angeles although thunderstorms in the mountains surrounding the city. Over 100 degrees Fahrenheit today cooling off a little in the next few days.
I would love the general British public who when they are sitting down watching some ghastly soap on tv that the meal they have had earlier is on their plates because our farm work force are still at it working to provide food on the table ,,forgotten work force but I’m going to keep telling people what a fantastic set of people you are Buy British and support uk agriculture
In Norfolk yes there was a bit of the storm I think it did seem like there was more rain mid-end August with thunder lightning and stuff. Some of it was very heavy.
I live in Newbury so I would have had the same rainfall as you! Love the videos mad and have seen you a couple of times going to football in Basingstoke. Love the videos
Great video,One of the best ag ytbers and in the next one can u stick the camera on the trailer and maybe on the 7710 so we can hear the beast, timelapse the carting?👍👍Thanks
Can't say anything about his specifics but I think I can clear up the farm 1,2,3 issue. Most farms (collection of fields) have existed a long time and the fields associated with them didn't change much. Traditionally it would be 1 farm 1 farm yard (the sheds) and the farm yard would be positioned optimally in the middle so harvest wouldn't have to be carted too far in any one direction (remember horse power). However, in the last century with modern agriculture being less labour intensive and more productive many traditional farms are not profitable enough to support a family. That's why these days many old farms have been effectively merged into one operation that can spread the cost out over the larger area creating better profit per acre. Although these old farms are working as one business its likely on paper they are still registered as different properties. Why spend money on having the land registries altered when its not necessary? Farm 1 was probably owned first and 2 and 3 were acquired later. Although in the deeds they probably aren't called farm 1,2,3 but have a more traditional English farm name like "grange farm" which would indicated it was once owned by the church. There are a lot of grange farms in England.
Martin Gibbs good explanation Martin. I remember Andy saying he numbered them for privacy/security reasons . Totally understandable as this platform is so open
