    Beavers are one of the only species that create habitat. Also they are great fire deterrents because they slow and allow water to seep into the ground in turn plants are usually way more greener than other areas and dont burn as easily.

      @@paleggett1897 It's very important to destroy beaver dams and relocate/eradicate beavers so they don't build again. Beavers destroy habitat by gnawing on trees or crops, especially killing off their favorite construction tree species from an entire stream corridor. Their dams drown and kill trees and native grasses/vegetation by drowning vast areas of forests and grasslands. This removes food sources and nesting sites for other non-water centric animal species. They also kill crops, flood property and/or transportation corridors (roads, airports, railways) through dam building. They degrade and destabilize creek and river banks along with levees through burrowing.

    This is a great compilation of beaver dam removal! I'm in awe at the size of them and their construction. Would it be ok to show from a drone's perspective the water being unleashed and going downstream? It would be cool to see the impact it is having downstream for birds and any farms or dry areas. Be safe with those logs!

    • @msTECH86
      @msTECH86  Год назад +6

      Hello Jeff.
      We've already flooded several properties in the past, but fortunately not too seriously. So now we let the water drain a little slower if we remove really big dams.
      As for the drone, I was wondering whether to buy one, but the truth is that the webcams that I use sometimes bother me. When I go to remove dams by hand, I work calmly and at my own pace. However, when we work with an excavator, then the work is very fast and there is no time to play cameraman😉
      Stay safe to Jeff.

      Beavers can build very large dams from branches, even in a few days. However, only with time, when a lot of sand and silt is deposited on the dam along with the flowing water, then the dam becomes massive and very durable.

      The interesting part is when beavers hear running water like the sound of their pond being drained they go into dam repair mode (usually at night). The amount of work that they do even overnight can be mind boggling.

    Look like an almost full time job!! Haha.
    Wouldn’t it be easier if the excavator had a thumb installed,,, most likely hydraulic. There would be a lot less debris sent downstream. I know when I was farming all that debris got into the screens before the pump and then starved the pumps for water. It was a pain in the but and caused some damage as well. It was our irrigation district doing the work and once they put a thumb on the excavator they were using, the problem got a lot better. At the time we could only relocate the beavers and not eliminate the problem. Relocation didn’t work at all hahaha.
    Maybe it isn’t an issue there where you are.
    Hoping all goes well with you.

      Seems ironic that the countries with beavers know that they have to remove the dams to prevent the inevitable flooding.
      In Britain we are now introducing beavers to prevent flooding. In the 1970s our water companies cleaned and straightened rivers to prevent flooding. The environment agency stopped river cleaning as the flooding had stopped and of course cost. Conservation experts then rewilded many and now they want to permenantly flood the miracle sponge. When the ground is full. Its full.

      I don't know about other countries, but in Poland, removing beaver dams is actually illegal. But when you do it on your own.
      I, on the other hand, have a signed contract with a government organization and only remove the dams for which I am commissioned.
