As an Australian, I object to the idea you can kill a kangaroo by just hitting it with a car. Those bastards will launch themselves right onto the hood of your car, completely destroy it, and then bounce away like it's nothing, leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere. Those are the true demonic creatures. 😂

@BrianLikesBeans I guess every country has their quirks 😆 I've seen videos from Canada with giant moose. How are those real!? You'd be surprised just how many kangaroos are around though. Drive through a country town and their football oval will have at least 50 roos taking a nap in the sun 😆 It's led to a bunch of overpopulation issues though. They're just so many!

It was her fault though. Mia and the friends were supposed to get Riley out by 50 seconds. She didn't because her "mom" was using Riley as vessel to talk to Mia. And then they didn't blow out his candle when the hand was removed from Riley's hand. She is 100% responsible!

So the choice in possessions wasn’t arbitrary! Mia was seeing things because her first time she went over 90 seconds. They were able to stay in Riley because he went way over 90 seconds and they did not blow out the candle with him after they got the hand off him. I thought this film was really thrilling and the performances were amazing!

The theme of lost connection is throughout the movie from beginning to end. From the brother looking for his other brother at a crowded party to everyone looking at their phone and literally tuning people out to Mia shutting down her dad when he was telling her truth about her mom to kids trying to disconnect from the real world either for entertainment or at least to feel something. It’s everywhere. I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was terrifying.

Great review like always. I loved the movie. I think the reason why the demons wanted Riley was because he was young and vulnerable and easily terrified. Maybe they can take you over more if you're young and vulnerable like that. I know they stated that he was too young and that's why they didn't want him to do it at first. Anyway, great hearing your thoughts!

  • @limetreess
    @limetreess 10 месяцев назад +5

it is an analogy for doing drugs, the brothers said so! the compounding of grief and addiction. i think riley was more susceptible cus he’s so young and mia also got connected because she did it for 91 seconds. they also said they created a full lore for the hand like a whole prequel backstory basically, which is cool.
i agree it did a classic story in such a sharp and creative way and it was really full of heart. great performances but wow sophie wilde is such a star.

My dad leaned over to me while watching this and said this reminds me of "Flatliners" and I went "The original with Kevin Bacon?" He nodded! Ironically my dad hadn't seen any trailers for this movie ahead of this which surprised me so he walked in with an open mind. I really enjoyed this film, I enjoyed not having any prior knowledge of a franchise/IP before watching it.
The spirits really like Riley because of how "pure" he was. In a couple scenes before he's chastising his friend for selling cigarettes and when he's offered one he declines.

I def think the hand was a metaphor for drugs because when Mia described herself as "glowing" while doing something that could literally destroy her soul I was like yea this is a super super amazing metaphor for alcohol/drugs. Esp with the younger one being SO reactive to the hand

that's a nice metaphor, especially seeing how Riley's friend wanted him to smoke the cigarette early in the movie, but he doesn't succumb to the peer pressure. He doesn't like the smell. He is also scared from the first encounter watching them interact with the hands, symbolizing how scared he is of drugs.....yet later on in the movie, he sees everyone having fun with the hand and all of a sudden wants to try.

I really enjoyed this one. It certainly leaves a lot unanswered for potential sequels (the origins of the hand) but I’d be happy if they left it as a one and done. I have to say though, it’s my belief that Mia didn’t sacrifice herself by jumping into traffic, but rather Jade pushed her into the traffic to save her brother. It seemed to me Mia didn’t know she was dead until those final moments in the hospital, and the candle bit at the very end sealed the deal. Overall, I have to say this may be the best horror movie I’ve seen so far in 2023. I look forward to this year’s remaining horror releases. Love the channel, all the best!

This movie was a hell of a ride! I just saw it tonight, and I watched your review before that, maybe a week ago. I'm glad my brain is in melting state right now so I forgot the ending 😂
Anyway it was way better than I expected, and I really felt attached to the characters. All were very believable and not empty like too many protagonists in this kind of films.

    Thank you for the review!
I was counting down for Joseph to call it out. 😂😂😂
From the moment I saw her hair when the previews dropped, I said that frock on her head is a mutated amalgamation of that mean ass Lady Elaine from Mr. Rogers and the frazzled Seed of Chucky!

The instrumental to J.HUD's Dangerous started playing in my head even before the full quote popped up onscreen 🏆

Joseph, if YOU like it, it must really be good! I'm with you on that wack hair-do. It's one of the first things I noticed in the trailer.

Rackaracka used to do some crazy stunt work . I particularly like their wrestling matches. Nice to see they’re branching out, they can’t keep body slamming each other onto thumb tacks forever.

Saw it tonight with two friends. I liked it (did not love it) and my two friends hates it.
What we all agreed on - this is NOT a scary movie. I know that hype has to get pumped out there, but it’s just not scary. No one is going to have any nightmares over this thing.
The main character was very unlikeable. I enjoyed the ending simply because she pretty much deserves it.
Yet another “trauma” movie with a dead parent haunting one of the kids. Enough already
Take A24 out of this and the hype that goes just with being attached to them I think is making people think it’s better than it actually is.
But I thought it was fun. But come on….there was nothing scary about this movie.
    Solid B rating.

The hairstyle to me looks like a possible chemical cut, like maybe she bleached and relaxed it simultaneously. Either way, the hairstyle was the most horrific part of the film for me.

Love you guys. You guys are the only ppl so know who watch more films than me
Also soooo happy you two actually watch abd reciew indie movies also rather than just blockbusters. I love Jeremy Jahns and Chris stuckman but those two only review blockbusters and movies that will bring them views it seems although I like those guys a lot I love getting actually educated and introduced to indies by you guys.
I wanted to ask if you two have seen green room and Blue Ruin? I loved Blue ruin
Also you should check out the monster live story Spring by benson and moorehead. Love their films abd I know you guys know who they are

Enjoyed this movie but it was very reminiscent of other movies, done here more competently than most. It’s funny, I though everyone’s hair was awful here and that’s something I rarely notice, Mia’s hair, Jades, Reilly, the trans persons hair, all awful. Joseph must be influencing me 😂

I love that like 10% of this vid is a two-mention discussion of Mia's hair lmao. I agree that at least in the phone-shown flashbacks of her and her mom (prior to her death and Mia's depression), maybe a more contemporary 'do woulda suited her better.
