- Having found Islam when she was not even looking for a religion, Siu Lim's faith have been tested in so many ways. She reverted to Islam when she was 22, and got married a year later, only to find herself in a polygamous marriage a few years into the marriage. Being in a polygamous marriage have brought her further, and then closer to the religion like no other. Having just recently divorced now with 4 children, Siu Lim now has a new lease on life; to be a better Muslim, a better mother and a better person.

I can understand people are surprized when she say she is Muslim, because of limited knowledge. China itself has 35 million Muslims.Historically famous navy admiral Zhang He was a Muslim. Because of his voyages, Chinese Muslims even settled in places like Thailand. Among the first Muslims in Australia were also Chinese Muslim migrants. I hope more people take a moment to learn about Islam, and know that it is far from what the media portray.

In islam, women only get half than men portion of inheritance, BUT men have to share it with his family while women can use it all for them self 😇. In islam there is afterlife n hell/heaven. Men have obligations to protect not just him self but also his wife and children from the "hell fire", while women only have to protect her self 😇.

It's so funny, Hindus (correct me if it's wrong) don't eat beef and nobody sees it as a problem. Jews don't eat pork and same thing here. But when people think about Islam they are so curious "why"? Actually, the only things we don't do is we don't eat pork, don't drink alcohol and don't smoke, don club and don't do things that obviously don't give you anything good. But we still live life, eat, have fun etc. And believe me or not, but if you grew up by not drinking, not clubbing, not eating a pork, you don't even want to. Like my nephew who has an allergy and can't eat a lot of sweet products. Now, even if he can eat some cookies he won't because he doesn't like them. Would you wonder "why?" he doesn't eat cookies? How can he live without cookies? I think that the problem is not pork, the real problem in their heads is Islam and this problem exists because of the media.
Its not about Muslims not eating pork.
It is more of her being ethnically and culturally Chinese, where pork meat is very often eaten and one of the main meats of a lot of Chinese. Like sweet and sour pork- classic dish.
It is just a mismatch between her chosen religion and her cultural upbringing that prompted the huge reaction probably...
I dont eat any kind of meat (or fish) and people cant wrap their heads around it. I usually dont even mention it and then they dont notice (unless I am invited to someones house).
And what about vegetarians? Is it a mismatch too if they decide to become Buddhists and give up meat and fish? People exist thousands of years and all nations have their Culture (and it is beautiful and ...) which at some points is against religion (if you believe in many things that contradicts any religion) and in some points, it can exist along with any religion. In Islam, in the first place, you should believe in one God, but no religion says you should give up your culture. Every nation, Muslim or not, has Culture. But eating pork is not a culture, like eating fish or cucumber or what so ever is not a culture. I know vegetarian Muslims, so what? Being Muslim doesn't mean to eat beef like being Chinese doesn't mean that you have to consume pork. If a person wants to be Muslim or Buddhist or Christian, let them be what they want to be. It's their lives. You can say your opinion but at the end, it's a person's right to make their own decision.

who said that ISLAM denies that Muslim women have rights? Look which rights had wives and daughters of Prophet Mohammad (sas) and all women in that time, how they lived etc. Islam doesn't take rights from women. Islam gave women rights while Europeans were discussing whether women have a soul or not. Islam abolished slavery and racism/nationalism while the rest of the world treated all non-white people as animals. How about educating yourself about Islam before you criticise it? A lot of Muslim people don't know their religion and other people use this unknowledge and mislead them. Don't judge Islam by Muslim people. People are not Islam, people don't know everything, and people make mistakes. There are plenty of pedophiles who are Christians, now shall we say that Christianity supports pedophilia?

I would say its not common for Malaya a non Muslim convert to Islam especially chinese. In Sarawak it is such a common thing, we have family from different religion background living underone roof. I ever experience once which is me(non-muslim) and my cousin a Muslim travel to Malaya for a weekend getaway, upon arrival at the resort for check-in, a chinese reception lady was curious and start asking question why do you look like chinese but with a muslim name and my cousin told her, his Father is a Chinese Muslim married to a Melanau bumi Muslim and it's a very common thing in Sarawak with a mix race culture religion you dont have to be surprise about it. And she told us its not common for semenanjung.

it's haram to marry a 2nd wife if your 1st has not agreed to it. also there is the issue of treating them the same in everything, near impossible btw that's why the Quran says marry only one at the end of the passage.
it does not require an agreement from the 1st, but requires a fairness for all.

While I do agree a man shouldn't marry another wife without informing his first wife beforehand, I must say that that ayah is misinterpreted far too often unfortunately. There are two ayahs in reference to this. In 4:3 Allah gives the command to marry women of your choice 2, 3, or 4. Notice He started with 2, not 1. Therefore the Islamic norm is polygamy not monogamy. Marrying 1 woman only is the exception, only if the man PERSONALLY fears that he will not be able to maintain his wives equally. However, on that tangent, what is equal maintenance? In 4:129, Allah SWT tells that you will never be able to be completely equal between your wives even if you tried so hard. This ayah is referring to a man's heart, (not his physical maintenance), and specifically the Prophet Muhammad SAW's heart, because he couldn't help that he loved Aisha RA the most out of all his wives RA and he was worried that he wasn't being equal in his love. Allah SWT explained that a man cannot control his heart's feeling, but he can be equal in his actions towards his wives. Therefore even for the ayah 4:3, equal means equal treatment outwardly but it doesn't necessarily include the inner feelings of the heart. And of course Allah SWT knows best!
