You answered the question to this all too common problem in a simple way that almost no other videos discuss. Thank you!

As soon as you mentioned homes in the 50s may not have a ground wire I immediately felt comfortable with what to do with my remaining wires. Thank you from someone who absolutely hates DIY chores!

I had an extra light fixture laying around. Decided to install it in my laundry room but it had no ground. I was stuck for a minute trying to figure it out. Found your video and confirmed I was good to go. Old light didn’t have ground and house have lasted this long without something going wrong , it should be ok with new fixture, when I rewire house I’ll add the ground to it.

Nice video, but with wires coming into that box from every which way, I wouldn't dream of doing that job without a hot wire detector. Turning off the breaker is not enough. Of course, you know your house well, but what about those viewing who are working with an unfamiliar fixture and might shut off the breaker, reach up in there, and get thrown to the floor?

Hi. I have a large 4 lights chandelier (80% metal and 20% wood) which is wired with 3 cables. I just took it down to clean it and I'm gonna start assembling the parts tomorrow. The thing is there is no ground cable. The 3 cables are 1 for the neutral, 1 for the phase of 1 pair of lights and the other 1 is for the other 1 pair of lights. Is it gonna be fine if I connect it the way it was without ground cable? There has never been an accident with it and it worked perfectly for many years. Advices?

Is it okay if I didn't tape up the ground? I just folded it up and shoved it into the fixture. I had one hot wire and one neutral wire, my house was built in 1977

If the ground touches the hot wire the light gets energized.and you could get shocked.

I have 3 wires - black/white and ground wire. Do I still need to first attached the ground wire from the light fixture to the green bolt on the metal fixture and then attached it to the ground wire from the outlet (3-way) or I can directly attach the ground wire from the light fixture to the ground wire from the outlet?

Howdy and thanks for the comment! Legally I would have to recommend you contact a qualified electrician. Im just a guy that DIYs based on other youtube videos haha
I can say that NEC code 250.148 (c) provides direction for the up to code way to ground a metal box and you can pick up "grounding pigtails" at your local hardware store! Hope that helps!

Hi mine has no ground wire in the ceiling. Can I just take the ground wire off instead of taping it off? Thank you!
