I know many professors who pompously play the role of producer teachers, but have no taste in music. You are the only one with excellent musical taste, who subtly feels and really understands music. I'm not used to just praising anyone, so don't take my words as a compliment.
Man your reaction to your own chords at 2:57 was so honest and sincere that that by itself made me hit the subscribe button. I totally vibed with that instantanious kind of "look what I found in my creation" like you have something pre-existing inside yourself that only needs to be looked up, or found. Cool moment 🥰 Cherish these moments.
All I gotta say is your coaching program changed my life and turned music into a full time career for me... and then you post these incredibly inspiring tutorials that feel like Christmas every time I watch! I get so inspired and creative with every vid!! Here before a million views!
The thing I enjoy most about watching videos is your enthusiasm. I love the way you say the word "HEAVEN", lol. That's how I know that you really dig whatever you are doing in that moment.
I wish I had this video when I started producing almost 6 year ago. This is too perfect. I can't even explain the feelings I get when I listen to those sweet sine pluck synth chords.
How did you always make these heart touching melodies? Is this intuition, voicings, sold-your-soul magic, mathematics, or behind the scene trial and error? (Or all of them?) Please make some videos of these, this is (one of) your strengths 🤩
After spending a lot of time and money in courses, I think that this is something very difficult to explain. Or I am a bad student :) Anyway, I think that Rome tends to omit the why, and just shows the how. Maybe he just doesn't know, and he learnt by practice and intuition like, I suspect, most do. I think that Rome sometimes knows the why but he doesn't explain it, maybe because the videos would be too complex, boring and long, or just because he wants to save those tips for his paid students. But beware. As I said, I've paid some courses, and most of that money has been wasted. Now I don't pay anymore until I see proof that I will learn something useful.
He tends to use minor scales a lot, plus it's something you can learn from his other tutorials on chord construction, after watching many of his videos I can say that I now make better chords with similar vibes to the ones he creates.
Haha thanks! That’s a huge compliment. It’s a bit of everything you mentioned. There is some bit of trial and error you don’t see in preparation for each video. For example, sometimes I’ll write 5 to 10 melodies in search for a good melody to use in a video and it takes me multiple days to find one. Sometimes (like in the video above) I’ll write a single melody and get lucky. I should definitely make a video on this. It would be a fun video that I think would be creatively inspiring.
This is what I do when making electronic music over the years when making laying in MIDI when composing. You're essentially creating space which helps greatly when mixing, as freqs are not hogging the mix. This video is highly impressive.
Nice tutorial. Not a fan of the chord progression and bass in this but it shows the simplicity of music making.,,i like using arpeggiators for bass lines too.
More or less I already knew all these tricks except for the atmosphere one, that was magic, with the unison and the massive reverb 1 note sounds like a full chord. Nice work as always.
One of the things I appreciate about your mixing is when you find something 'good' you use it. I have a bad habit of finding a great sound and then saying, "that's good but I'm gonna see if I can find something better" MAN!😖 I waste so much time just looking for 'better' when what I have is more than sufficient.
It’s pretty much Odesza who are there with royksopp and jon Hopkins as my fave electronic acts. Which basically means I love you. I’m gonna make that serum investment I never used much come to life!
Right after this video I twicked my current project with a new bassline synth. This is exactly the sound I've been loking for, thanks! The previous bass preset used the envelope mostly on the on the osc volume, but with the filter it works much better, leaving the base note sounding constantly in sub-bass range
7:11 "Another word for size is decay" Uhh...No. Decay is how long the reverb is and size makes it feel like the reverb is in a bigger or smaller room. But just the sound of it and not the lenght. Unless that's how this plugin works because I don't see a decay knob.
Mine doesn't sound like that. I do as you show, and mine sounds like a sharp sawtooth synth sound, not soft and smooth like yours. The filter + ENV work, but the sound itself is sharp like unfiltered until the ENV turns the knob down. Your sounds a lot more LP filtered. I pulled my filter all the way down to 8 Hz, and still sharp not soft like yours. It seems like you have an extra filter/eq on the plugin output...
0:24 wow your student Danccer getting signed with Paul van Dyk - that's amazing - exciting news!!! Congrats Danccer! I've been a huge PvD fan for many years...
Awesome mix from scratch in literally seconds. Love the final tracks all put together as well. You mentioned "Ducking". What is that? I love the effect it had on the Bass line. smooth.
Ducking is also called sidechaining. When you sidechain an instrument track to another track (usually the bass drum), the instrument will get quieter whenever the drum hits.
i just wanna say thank you for all the help you've given ppl. you might not realize it, but ppl who do this are a lot like mr. beast, but there's simply no money involved. that's an incredible thing.. to help ppl who don't deserve it. that's why i made the comparison
Something I think is important to point out: at 7:12 you say that "Size" is another word for "Decay", but if you look at the reverb in serum, size and decay are two different knobs - could you explain the difference?
Yo, this is super helpful! Just wanted to let you know that when you hit your desk my windows shook from the bass! You may want to hi pass your mic so it doesn''t make all the subs go crazy. thanks for the content!
I love this sound. Especially when its a saw with a little fade in on the attack, relativly fast decay, plus some crunchy distortion. soooo good it makes by brain tickle cause it sounds orange lol
The atmosphere tip with the sine wave reverb ducking was very clever! I'm definitely gonna use that one! Thanks for this awesome video! I added this to my favorites. 😃👍
geez I really need to utilize Serum. relying on plugins has been cool but I can never find the 'right' sound and searching through preset packs and libraries just takes away from my music time. Plus making your own sounds (almost) ensures you don't sound like anyone else. same destination, different path to get their.
Great video-- love diving into sound design, and your instructions and delivery are gold. My attempts to follow still sound nothing like yours (Pigments's saw doesn't sound like your punchier MB Saw in Serum for one. MB=Multi-band?) But still getting useful sounds. Thank you!

Honestly it's those moments that makes making music FUN
One of the simplest but most profound production tutorial videos I think I've ever seen. Literal goose bumps at 2:58.
All I gotta say is your coaching program changed my life and turned music into a full time career for me... and then you post these incredibly inspiring tutorials that feel like Christmas every time I watch! I get so inspired and creative with every vid!! Here before a million views!
Dude your enthusiasm, wonder, and joy at making sounds is fantastic!
I totally agree, man
seriously
You have a knack for simplifying the whole process of music production
and i love it
I really enjoy watching your lessons since 2015, you are truly a very valuable teacher. greetings from Uzbekistan

@@Sky_666 yep, minor scales are very common in electronic music.
@@AlexRome that would be really useful; how you do that trial and error.
Such a good succinct tutorial, showing you how to make beautiful sounds quickly and effectively. Thanks Alex!
you're so good. I have no words. I'd love to have just a 1/10 of your knowledge and hear. I bow to you.
3:03 what a nice kick
If I had your skills I don’t think I’d ever stop making music. Love your passion. Keep it up.
Yours sounds so much better than mine, I've tried to tweak it to exactly how you did but for some reason yours sounds waay better

Every time I watch one of your videos I learn something really significant. Sincere thanks!
Man! I love your content. Rooting for your channel. Definitely recommending it to any of the people are interested in music industry.
Nice Alex still dropping production tip videos!
That was so good - thank you for showing me this!
WONDERFUL. Thank you for sharing with us!
you make it look so easy

this is amazing ohmydays, I will 100000% use this in my upcoming sessions, love 🙏🏽

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNISON AND THE FULL CHORD?
Please release this! Its too good! 😭🔥
This is absolute gold. Thank you, man!!
I thought it was kinda meh at the beginning, but with the bass and atmos it really comes together.
It`s very beautiful synthwave. Thank you for tutorial!
his reaction @ 2:58....priceless!! I know dat feeling...
Another super creative video. Nice! 🔥
Beautiful sounds for sure!
Criminally underrated video to be honest.
Had to comment again cause I love it so much

MAN!😖 I waste so much time just looking for 'better' when what I have is more than sufficient.
Yeah, I call this the endless trap. You can get stuck there for hours when you have something that sounds great already!
Really lovely stuff and such clear explanations. Thank you.
It’s pretty much Odesza who are there with royksopp and jon Hopkins as my fave electronic acts. Which basically means I love you. I’m gonna make that serum investment I never used much come to life!
Thankyou for making this - I really enjoyed it and it’s made me more confident with going beyond presets and pathing my own path on serum. God bless
Pretty good for minimal or simplistic house/techno stylez.👌
That sine pluck gave me chill idk why
Thank you, Lobot!
THANKS for your shoutout. I just learned from the best. 😉
I have only one thins to say :AMAZING 💙💙💙💙
Dude. Your progressions always give me major feels. Respect. 🙌🏻
The way I smiled when you brought the soft sine wave up an octave at 2:57

this is GOLD! Thanks bro
I love these short easy tutorials! ❤️🔥
It's "that sound"... this video provides the recipe for the awesome sauce. Thank you, Alex!
Kinda clickbaity, ngl, but still solid lessons. thanks man!
Did you hear how that click sounds??? It's heaven!!! 😂
Kinda always but I think we click on his videos cause he genuinelly likes doing music and watching someone do something they love is always fun
You should not lie by default so the ngl is unnecessary 🤣👍
Show them what they want give them what they need
its the youtube game bro
that sounds so good
wtf its insane bro the sound is so intense
Man long time no see your videos
This one got me back
Great content thanks!
That's really impressed 🔥🔥
Sine-based sounds are the fuckin best. That lead is heart melting.

Need a breakdown of the synth brass you added at the end
Really nice. Gotta try it.

That's really inspiring, not sure about the final result with some fx but it's personnal. I also wonder what could work as a break in the middle..
You are truly a master my dude. I can never get the same sounds you do, even following step by step. I think my serum is broken. 😅
Please make a full version.
Great ... really no words

the title of the video is just misleading
Marketing genius lol

There is no way what you showed of the delay is the result you came up with. Can you tell me what you used to curate that Echo ping pong effect? @2:00
please, do some dubstep tutorials. You are awesome, and you helped me get better at music production!
I hardly ever leave comments - this is the second comment this morning. Another great video Alex!
Maaaan, thats fire
Amazing tips, i started producing a few months ago and i learned a lot from you. Thank you
Awesome, keep going and you'll make it buddy!
@@PAAYNE Thank you very much, u have some nice skills too. I subscribed to ur channel too :)

Dude I am fucking COOKING with this shit! You've saved me as a producer!
Love when you vibe to the chords youve just made haha
Oh!!! That synth sound is straight cash $$$$$!! Great vid.
When you find a sound you weren't expecting to find lol always a good moment
3:02 "Did you honestly just hear that"😂😂😂
The atmosphere tip with the sine wave reverb ducking was very clever! I'm definitely gonna use that one! Thanks for this awesome video! I added this to my favorites. 😃👍

Hey Alex I love your tutorials.I want to start EDM music next year but I am not sure what I need to start with in terms of instruments. Where do I start.
wow, these sounds amazing!!!!!
Man the drums are so good… where can we grab them from??
