  • Milan only became fashion capital of Italy relatively recently. This video is about how Milan took over from Paris and Florence but also how Rome, Naples and other regions in Italy still have thriving fashion industries. We cover Versace, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Missoni. And finally, we look at the ultimate irony of Italian fashion: la sprezzatura.

Nice video! Yes, we share with France the cradle of the high-fashion tradition nowadays. 0:53 although there had been some M&As, the aggressive cost-focused competition from Asia and East-European countries, we still cohabit the same "home", thus there is not any prevalence of one on the other :))

An Italianissimo fashion classic for mine. Not long after travelling to Italia for the first time many moons ago I noticed that some, what appeared to be extra well dressed gentlemen, had their jacket cuffs partially unbuttoned.
After asking someone in the industry, they casually noted, oh … that’s to show that the cuffs are completely constructed with functioning button holes and not just buttons sown onto the plain sleeve cuff that's only for show.
In Italia c'è l’undicesimo comandamento … sempre devi fare la bella figura!

Yes, absolutely right. I had never even thought of leaving a cuff button undone until I lived in Italy and then discovered that the buttons on my English jackets were sewn on and couldn’t be undone. I may start leaving my shoelaces undone instead!
