Good to see a young boy like him is on raagas, hopefully this boy someday starts composing (please somebody let me know if he has already started) and bring back the golden memories of indian music.
@barendschipper. Thanks for the comment. I'm not really clear what you mean by a " 4-4 bar"? The rhythmic cycle that I'm improvising here is a 16 beat cycle -"Teentaal". Its a very commonly used cycle in Indian Classical music. This video is from 2007. Do listen to some of my more recent music on you tube-latest clip is from a concert I did a few months back at the Novara Jazz Festival, Italy.
It is so delightful to listen to you play. I am really looking forward to hearing you play in Holland in April. We hope we will get to know you a little better then also because your playing reveals your very deep spirit!
i really like this! would you mind telling me what you do roughly with the left hand for accompaniment ? is it mostly pedal notes of the 1st and 5th scale degrees from the mode your improvising in? thanks and keep making awesome music!
A 4-4 bar raga. The point of Raga is it's souplesse in rhythmic variety, far beyond 4-4. But OK, it's a start, as an exercise on the way to something. Work hard, listen to classic Raga. There is a lot of hard and pleasant work ahead! Enjoy yourself!
it is good, but for me the piano and moreso the tabla are playing it too safe... rigid... for raga they need to let go and channel improvizationally... laikin wah, bachay ka hath lagya hai
what a great musician..what A grip on Piano..not utsav lal but Sir utsav lal
.

Yaya, a raga in 4-4, for the pop music market?
Come on....listen to some classical Indian stuff. But a nice amateur exercise as a start.
