Thank you so much! I knew I had turned it off and didn't realize it was re-enabling the live setting each time I opened the app. Honestly, why in the world Apple thought this was a good feature is beyond me. If I want to take a photo, I want to capture a split-second moment in time, not a photo encompassing a 3-second span of time. Subscribed.
I wonder why they shove this down people's throats? To me it seems an unusual use case, something that likely is a benefit to 10%-20% of users and a nuisance to >50%. Maybe, though, people love this????
Thank you. It works as you describe. I think there will be a lot of very happy iPhone camera users who feel just that little less stressed. Well done. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for this! I recently had it turned off thinking it wouldnt trigger "Live setting" but had recently noticed my photos were Live photos. And I hate live photos because they bulk up my storage. Kind of a confusing feature for Apple for this toggle to be a thing
Thank you for explaining what the iPhone wording actually means. I turned off the live picture in the camera app. Then checked the "live" picture off setting in the camera preference settings. Going back to take a picture - live action was still on. aaaaaaack! Your instructions worked. Thank you so much.
Thank you! Photos taken with this "live" setting take up a lot of storage space in messages, on my mac, on my iphone etc & I'm so glad that I can now turn it OFF permanently!
You are the man! Thank you so much for this video. I had it turned off thinking it was going to be off and every time I took a picture it saved it as a live and I hated that. You, sir…are my hero!
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to make this video. I was so tired of that live feature messing up my videos. Bless you & Thank you again. 🙏🏾🤗
Great video! So good, that I first turned off Live Photos, but after watching, turned it back on! Plan to use it to capture pets, landscape photos, anywhere it might be helpful.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I pulled down a set of pictures from iCloud to contribute to an album but each downloaded as a zip file containing a folder containing a .MOV file. It turned what should have been a short job into a day's job. Not Apple's finest idea by a long way.
OMG! Thank you! God bless you! I was confused by how they worded the setting and was so frustrated because live takes more storage also. I think being gen x I’m still obsessed about storage and battery power more than I should be but, you still should be able to change a phone setting much easier than this no matter what.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! All the other online info indicates under Preserve Settings to "Turn OFF Live Photo" which is totally backwards if you DON'T want Live Photo option on every time you open camera app.
Thanks, that is great, like many here I hate the Live setting and never intentionally use it. HOWEVER, having the soft button there means that I am always accidentally toggling on the 'Live' setting. Is it possible to remove that soft toggle button, so that by default 'Live' is off, and whereby, in order to turn the feature back on you have to go into settings? This would make it impossible to accidentally turn ON Live.
So must have accidentally turned it on, because I would click off the word live, it gave me a choice off, bounce some other options. But when I would open up my camera it would be live again! So thank you❤
Thank you! I had it on grey and was wondering why it kept taking Live Photos. Do you know if having Live Photos on causes photos you take on messenger to save to your photos app? Because I turned that function off but my photos are still saving to the app.
I got very annoyed of this feature, i search up this video, i follow the instruction, guess what, the settings already disable it a long time ago!! But why is it still here.
When in your video, after turning on "live" in the preserve settings and returning to the camera to turn "Live" off, it is not apparent to viewers as to what you were touching to turn it off in the camera. Whatever you does not show on screen - watched it many times - and only by trial and error did I figure out it was the innocuous icon in the top right of the display on my iPhone SE.
Is there a way to remove that Live Photo icon from the top bar? Sometimes in bright sunlight, I’ll accidentally enable Live Photo (like when removing my phone from a pocket). I have no use for that feature and would to remove it from the upper toolbar. Thanks!
I would like to get rid of Live Photo completely. Take control off screen so I can’t inadvertently turn it on! In certain light conditions it is hard to see the screen and it gets turned on without me noticing!!!
I have hundreds of Live Photos that use up heaps of storage. How do I turn off the Live Photo on photos already taken. I’d like to do hundreds all in one go!
This feature is always recording us. So the cellphone can record without user intervention. This is not privacy! With live enabled say hello then take a picture. See it listened what you said some seconds ago before you take the picture.
I did this and it works for the camera app only. But when you are in text messages and click camera, live is still on no matter what setting is preserved

Thank you so much for the video!!! I absolutely hate this feature.
Amen!!
Same here, my blood was piping 😭🤣
Its so dumb

I love these phone semantics, they would portray Lombard Street in San Francisco as a straight line, plaid is now paisley…
SAME. Did this fix it??
Thank you so much! I knew I had turned it off and didn't realize it was re-enabling the live setting each time I opened the app. Honestly, why in the world Apple thought this was a good feature is beyond me. If I want to take a photo, I want to capture a split-second moment in time, not a photo encompassing a 3-second span of time. Subscribed.
Its probably because they want it to take up more storage so that you buy more storage space
I was doing the same thing. Hate this feature!
Hallelujah it’s off it’s been driving me nuts nearly every photo I take it’s like a little video and a pain in my but so finally it’s of many thanks.
Oh my god you changed my life !! I was going crazy - hate live photos by default. THANK YOU!!!
Really? Your life has changed? How many times has LIVE come back on since you followed these instructs 4-wks ago?
@@MisterFizz Never and it’s awesome :D
They made it more complicated than it should've been..
Thank you.
I wonder why they shove this down people's throats? To me it seems an unusual use case, something that likely is a benefit to 10%-20% of users and a nuisance to >50%. Maybe, though, people love this????
@@Quinellipe It makes photos bulkier and most people end up buying more iCloud storage. That is all there is to it.
Yup! This option is ridiculous!!!
@@luvabhi3Yes exactly, it’s just another way Apple r8pes their customers
So completely ridiculously complicated!!! I literally did the camera setting first and it didn’t even work then. So glad I found this! 😂
Thank you. It works as you describe. I think there will be a lot of very happy iPhone camera users who feel just that little less stressed. Well done. Thanks again.

It makes ur photos bulkier and most people end up buying more iCloud storage. That is all there is to it.
Man, me too! So annoying to have that setting constantly getting enabled. Thanks
As so many have said, THANK YOU, Dusty Porter, for showing us how to turn off the annoying Live Photos.
Thank you for explaining what the iPhone wording actually means. I turned off the live picture in the camera app. Then checked the "live" picture off setting in the camera preference settings. Going back to take a picture - live action was still on. aaaaaaack!

It worked!!! I was accidentally preserving the Live setting while Live was still on my camera. THANK YOU 🙏🏻
Great video! So good, that I first turned off Live Photos, but after watching, turned it back on! Plan to use it to capture pets, landscape photos, anywhere it might be helpful.
10 thumbs up! Finally made sense and NO more live pics!! Thanks!
Great, thank you. I do believe this is getting reset when ever an update is loaded, along with other setting being returned to default.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I pulled down a set of pictures from iCloud to contribute to an album but each downloaded as a zip file containing a folder containing a .MOV file. It turned what should have been a short job into a day's job. Not Apple's finest idea by a long way.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! All the other online info indicates under Preserve Settings to "Turn OFF Live Photo" which is totally backwards if you DON'T want Live Photo option on every time you open camera app.
Straightforward tutorial. Thank you!
Finally damn been bothering me for two years at least! Live Photo SUCKS! 😂
Thanks for the video ❤
Thanks so much. You are absolutely right. I thought the toggle to green meant I was enabling always on. It was driving me crazy.
Thank you so much. The live thing has been such an annoyance.
Author of the video gets to the point without the typical bla bla bla of many videos. Nice. Informative.

Thank you, short and sweet, easy directions 👍🏼
Thank you so much! That setting was a nightmare and I couldn’t figure out how to shut it off!
was it necessary to make this so long?
1. go to camera
2. preserve settings
3. last function at the bottom (as of 2022)
3 minute video, doesn't seem THAT long i.e. first world problems
@@AGag47 - you obviously missed the point and have nothing better to do in life, so it seems. heck, have fun wasting your life!
“Annoying” is the kind way of putting it. Live feature makes me crazy. Thanks for the tute😅😉
Thank you for the video. What would you ever use the Live Photo mode for anyway. It just chews up memory and has no use that I can understand.
Very helpful thank you very much, I did think the green meant live photos was on
Yur a life saver thank u it’s super annoying having Live Photos 😒😒

Excellent instructions. Thank you! Brigitte in Tulsa Oklahoma
Good tip but you can easily knock live on again by accident when taking photos. How do we disable this feature completely and permanently?
Thabk you Mr Porter! Outstanding video!!!
I have never commented on any RUclips video before but thank you thank you thank you. At last it is OFF!!! Much appreciated.
I am thrilled to be able to turn this off. Bless your heart!
Thanks Dusty. Live camera was pretty annoying.
Seriously man, thank you 🙏🏽
Do you know how to disable automatic CarPlay so that music doesn’t blast every time I turn my car on lol?
Thanks, I don't know how I didn't find this setting!

Doesn't work....my live feature is set to off in the setting yet keep enabling when I use the camera
What a wonderful voice and explaining… thank you

thank you, that was super helpful.
Thanks for the hint. Very useful!
THANKS - very frustrating
Its turned off but still taking live pics? Even tho the “live” icon is off
thank you! It works perfectly!!
