I contacted Jon with my art and visual efx material in 2008, and he called me! BLOWING MY MIND and we met for brunch in LA and worked on some visual projection ideas for his solo tours. I was regrettably speechless meeting him, but he later took ill and had to leave YES for their reunion in 2008 since 2004. We stayed in touch very casually but saw him in March 23 at his daughter's photo exhibit in LA. Still incredible and gave me a backstage pass to his Solo doing the YES music show with The Geek Band in May but he had touches of the flu so I didn't get to meet yet the show was as close to YES as we'll ever experience truly again.

I saw this tour in the UK and the band played for about three hours; they took a short break after an hour but then played a 20 minute acoustic/unplugged set before rocking out with the greatest hits and a stunning version of Awaken. Someone had definitely turned Chris' bass up to 11; it was so loud!! Check ut some of the live version of Yours is No Disgrace where Steve is beyond brilliant.

I agree Yes if they get you at the right moment they change your life. Music will never be the same again. There are still parts of songs that bring a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat after more than 45 years.
My first YES concert was in 1976 at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey. I was 16 years old. Since then, I've been lucky enough to see them on every tour they've done, and usually two to three times on each tour. It's hard to explain how amazing every concert was. I was 14 years old when I first heard this song and it made me understand the value of Bass. Not that I underestimate any part of it; it remains a song I play often and I'm always on my feet by the time it ends. It's indescribably glorious and done live is amazing. I was fortunate to see it when they did their Tales From Topographic Oceans tour. It's so cool that you get them, you really get them. That puts you in a minority of reaction video personalities but believe me when I say subscribers really care when they find someone who understands that the momentum of a song is an integral part of the song just like the lyrics, the instruments, the tune, the production... the momentum is all of these put together and more, and I thank you for appreciating that and for playing this song which I have loved for over 50 years.

I have been to Yes Concerts since the mid 70's, it is one of the most remarkeble bands ever, this version is awesome. And don't forget ABWH version of CTTE, thats about the best ever!
Yup. One of the first things they composed with Steve. Wurm is an old Bodast riff that they transformed. They needed a way to close Starship Trooper. This fits very well. It's almost the hook.
I was at this show in Lowell, MA. and it was a Crazy Hot day in May about 97 and the dew point in the low 70s and everyone was swearing their Ass off at the Tsongas Arena because the A/C broke down like 5 minutes into the show !!!! 😰 They edit the DVD well, between each song the band was towelling off big time especially Squire but Jon Anderson somehow seemed to stay cool for the entire show never taking his jacket off !! 👍🎶✌
You can count on Jeff to never steer you wrong, L33! He is my Yes brother. I always run into him around the comments on Yes reaction videos, all over RUclips and enjoy talking to him. Yes is a band that can take you to new worlds, much like their Roger Dean album covers. There will never be another band like them. Especially the classic lineup and their astonishing 70's output.
YES it is one of their earliest masterpieces! You should check out their cover or I should say their version of the Simon and Garfunkel iconic song America. They give an incredible spin to it!
I’m not just a Tull freak and Yes was my other favorite band (early 70’s) and they are one of the best progressive bands of that generation. Glad you like the same bands as me. Love you r reacting to this band
So glad you like this band My top 3 are Tull, Rush, and Yes. Then there’s Genesis ( Gabriel era) , Pink Floyd, Marillion. seen Yes from 78-91. Always a great show! I’ve been blessed with seeing some of the best groups of the 70’s. You have a lot of music to check out from that era and I know you will love it. Hod bless and I look forward to seeing more of your reactions to this music genre
I first saw YES in the fall of 1972 at a small college auditorium in Erie , Pa. It got so my frat brothers wouldn’t let me pick the music because they knew what was coming! Saw them 7 times the last on the Going for the One tour summer of 1978? We pushed our way to the front of what was then known as Rich Stadium home of the Buffalo Bills- there were no reserved seats in those days - about $20 got you 3 or 4 top acts with a headliner! Chris Squire comes out with a triple neck bass and they opened with Close to the Edge. As an amateur guitar player in every sense of the word I just don’t know how Steve Howe isn’t considered the greatest player of the rock era. Who else could play so many different styles sometimes in the same song? Real enjoy your reactions
This is far from my fave version of this, but I'm glad it works for other people. I just have too many associations with this period in the band history, right before Jon was booted and he and Steve were basically not talking to each other that it's hard to get behind it. But thumb's up for Yes gaining new fans in 2023!
L33: Oh MAN, this was a great reaction! At the moment you asked "Why is this so great?", I remembered that there are 2 or 3 other bands that have tried to recreate this feel in their own music by using the same chord progression (can't copyright a chord progression, only melodies) and having long solos over it and nope, it sounds contrived. This is uniquely theirs, bursting with inspiration like it was just written and a fountain of indescribable joy. What a tremendous piece. And we get to experience it with you. I feel like I can fly right now. "In him, it is always Yes." (2 Corinthians 1:19)
You can tell how happy this song makes them! Especially Jon lol I know this was the last song of the set so it might just be excitement too idk but yeah this was a very special performance. Out of this damn world.
If you ever get to watch when Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from Rush induct Yes in to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame , Alex talks about this song in particular on how it was such a huge influence on his learning the guitar playing it over and over again , Then Geddy got to fulfill a life to a life long dream and play Roundabout with Yes at the induction , all on RUclips,
Love your reactions man. So heartfelt and often deep. You totally get YES. They've had a profound impact on my life since first discovering them in 1976. Damn. Either on your own or for the channel (which would be a first) you should check out "The Big Medley" from this recording during the Tormato era tour: ruclips.net/video/6qN_wP2D0l4/видео.html. Starts at 32:57. It's long and covers a lot of territory and is really quite magical. I'm sure you'll agree. Another incredible live moment is Nous Sommes du Soliel from Yesshows. That one has some power over me and makes my entire body buzz. Keep doing what you're doing. Good luck in your life and struggles and always stay positive. Peace brotha!
Wow thank you so much bro 🙏 the kind words mean so much to me. I've had a rough go at it lately... but it seems like I have pulled through. Thank you again. I will check out the show you linked too.
@@L33Reacts it’s mind blowing so a bit of weed enhances the experience. That whole show is fire. I was lucky enough to catch them on that tour (on acid) so I’m glad to have this document of it. The set list is incredible and the only tour to feature the Tormato tracks which are much better live.
I was at this concert when I was in college at The University if Delaware. The first of over a dozen that I've been lucky enough to see. The latest in Pompano Beach a few months ago. They were pretty good even without the classic lineup except for Steve Howe.
I was lucky and won a free room on the cruise ship "Cruise to the Edge" in 2015 in a sweepstakes giveaway - the band YES was on the cruise ship and they performed "Starship Trooper" live on the cruise ship - it was their finale song - I met Jon Davidson the new YES singer briefly and my sister met the drummer Alan White who sadly passed away -we also had a Q and A session with Steve Howe and the rest of the band YES --- Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater was on the cruise ship paying tribute to the late Chris Squire the bass player who sadly also passed away (one of Geddy Lee's favorite bass player influences) - but it was lots of fun and the band HAKEN was on the ship and they are so talented. I'd love to go on that cruise ship again with the rock bands - its about $1,600 to $2,900 for a room next year for a room on the cruise ship but it's sold out right now.
Roundabout was my first Yes song, then Close To The Edge, then Yours Is No Disgrace. There's always a sense of Joie de Vivre about their songs, so uplifting and astonishing. Glad you're feeling better. Maybe Yes songs should be available on prescription.
Hell yeah brother your words at the end were true and genuine. Thank you for giving us Yes enthusiasts a place to share the magic. We both really missed out on their shows. Ive seen the new iteration twice. Its not terrible, but its nothing close to the magic the classic lineup brought to the stage. Glad to see you're soinf better! And excited for you to check out the request i sent in 😎 Take care of yourself and your family :)
Hey Dude! Another brilliant upload, thank you for taking the time and trouble for all the editing. Great band eh! All such accomplished musicians in one place at the right time - doesn't happen often! Glad to see you smiling my man!
Damn Dave I appreciate that so much! I really do. Thank you so much. This band has changed my entire musical perspective... and I will never forget them for that. Just absolute perfection at some points.
You got that damn right L33 - I'm pushing into my late 70's now - can you imagine the impact this band had on me and my contemporaries? Hell, we were brought up on Perry Como and Frank Sinatra ! (both good in their fashion), but 'Yes'? Our musical world exploded - never to be the same again! Pax buddy!@@L33Reacts
LOVED THIS TOUR!! I was blessed to see them 5x in one week. Took a vacation and had front row for all but one concert(2nd row)!!! ❤❤ Never forget that!! Soo much fun-and the boys definitely recognize your face when they see you that much🤣 So glad I did that!!❤
Been trying to watch since Sunday. This was a great tour. One of the last with the full classic mid/late 70's lineup. Even better in person. Was blessed to be able to go. The riff Steve plays during the Wurm section at the end is something he reused from his previous band Bodast. Search for the song Nether Street. Mostly unremarkable beyond that trivia and Steve's solos within it. Just interesting and a little wrong to hear it outside the context of this song.
It’s pretty interesting to watch people react to YES. The Wow is definitely anticipated…but Some people get really Moved! Physically and Emotionally. Every time you Listen to a song you’ll hear something you didn’t before(5 masters of there instruments to focus on), the complexity of the music keeps revealing moments of “wow that was cool” -didn’t catch that before … So glad you found Yes-you get it. Let them help you thru times of despair and times of Joy. Really mushy I know🙄 But …it’s real and has been for over 50years for me. Keep discovering more… Go back to Awaken❤ Mind Drive Machine Messiah LONG live version of America
YES always amazes me every time I watch them on RUclips. There are some songs from their first two albums that I hope you'll check out. Their original lineup of Anderson, Squire, Bruford, Banks, and Kaye, wasn't their best, and neither album charted, but there are a couple of gems that you'll greatly enjoy: Every Little Thing (A Beatles cover which I think is better than the original) Everyday and Today (One of my favorite beautiful songs by them, that almost no one has heard, or has reacted to, and I don't know why) Survival (Considered by many to be their best song on their first album) Everydays (From their second album. JustJP considered it their best song that no one ever recommended to him, and it confused him why no one ever did) There are several others that I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy too: 'Then' 'Astral Traveller' 'No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed' 'Time and a Word'. Hope you get to them at some point.
@@L33Reacts Well then, I might have something that you'll enjoy. I wrote my own D&D Fantasy Novel, and then narrated it on my channel, and I just finished writing and narrating Book Two. Hope to write Book Three next year. Both Books are in their own Playlist, so if you ever have some time, check it out, and let me know in the comments what you think of it. I've never written a book before, but I'm glad I did it. It's been a blast. I first played D&D in 1980, and I've only played 1st and 2nd edition. Another yt channel that I think you'll enjoy is called 'The Dungeon Minister'. See what you think. ttyl 🙂
I would highly recommend Starship Trooper - Band Geek Episode 100 Ngl when I first heard this cover it sounded so much better than the original to me that I think I've felt a bit uncomfortable
Hi L33, New subscriber here. Been following your channel for a few weeks and couldn't believe I hadn't subscribed yet. Anyway, don't know if you will ever even see this comment, but if you do, you need to react to some Yes covers by the Band Geeks. I would fund it if I could, brother. All you need to know is they nail these songs so good that Jon Anderson did a special Yes Tribute tour with them last year. 'Nuff said.
You have got to check out Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb Live from the Pulse tour. Your mind will be blown! David Gilmour's solo is considered the best ever!!
Jon's voice suffered from all the fog machines on their tours. He couldn't sing. Almost bought the farm. Yes continued on with a different singer Chris found on the internet ...early youtube vids, I believe, Benoit David. He also trashed his voice singing songs beyond his range and was replaced. Yes, could be cruel if your musicianship, from whatever, affected touring schedules.
I did the yessongs version originally and I honestly prefer this one. Yeah it's a tad different but I think they were channeling something higher here!
Here I am 50 years later from my first time hearing this blasting it along with you.

BEST pick Jeff!!
He knows his stuff for sure.
Ha! I'm watching your Aja video right now!!😃
I saw this tour. Nobody does it better live or in the studio than the greatest band there ever was or will ever be.🤩
^^^^^
What he said!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I first saw YES in the fall of 1972 at a small college auditorium in Erie , Pa.
Listening to these guys since the 60s.
It’s sooo good because they are the absolute best. Thanks for your channel.
Thank you so much Mark!! So glad you enjoy it :)
"In him, it is always Yes."
(2 Corinthians 1:19)
You can tell how happy this song makes them! Especially Jon lol I know this was the last song of the set so it might just be excitement too idk but yeah this was a very special performance. Out of this damn world.
@@L33ReactsLast song of the tour. Jon kept laughing because he was having a blast and the tour was a huge success!!😎
@@jeffschielka7845 I love seeing Jon grinning from ear to ear. Despite playing this song thousands of times in concert, he still feels it.
@@TheReaperMan275 Absolutely!👍😎
OUTSTANDING!
If you ever get to watch when Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from Rush induct Yes in to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame , Alex talks about this song in particular on how it was such a huge influence on his learning the guitar playing it over and over again , Then Geddy got to fulfill a life to a life long dream and play Roundabout with Yes at the induction , all on RUclips,
A great Yes song. Never get tired of it. Though much later in their lives, this was a great concert.
Definitely get YESSONGS, it would be my desert island compilation.
Thanks!
I agrree all what you said (sorry for my english)one of the best band
Thank you! I'm glad you agree. Your English is good!
That's right....................................FUCK YEAH......😄
Fuck yeah! I'll say it again hahaha
Great Old School progressive rock band!
YES FOREVER❤ I NEVER MISSED A SHOW @ THE SPECTRUM OR JFK STADIUMS IN PHILLY. I AM A VERY LUCKY HUMAN😅 FROM 1973
LOVED THIS TOUR!! I was blessed to see them 5x in one week. Took a vacation and had front row for all but one concert(2nd row)!!! ❤❤
Never forget that!! Soo much fun-and the boys definitely recognize your face when they see you that much🤣
So glad I did that!!❤
Been trying to watch since Sunday.
Thanks, Jeff.
Chris shines on this song
It’s pretty interesting to watch people react to YES.
The Wow is definitely anticipated…but Some people get really Moved! Physically and Emotionally.
Every time you Listen to a song you’ll hear something you didn’t before(5 masters of there instruments to focus on), the complexity of the music keeps revealing moments of “wow that was cool” -didn’t catch that before …
So glad you found Yes-you get it. Let them help you thru times of despair and times of Joy.
Really mushy I know🙄
But …it’s real and has been for over 50years for me.
Keep discovering more…
Go back to Awaken❤
Mind Drive
Machine Messiah
LONG live version of America
Your Awesome 😊🎉
you may like the under rated prog rock of Focus ( Eruption) and Uriah Heep's Salisbury.. thanks for reacting to the music of my youth
YES always amazes me every time I watch them on RUclips. There are some songs from their first two albums that I hope you'll check out. Their original lineup of Anderson, Squire, Bruford, Banks, and Kaye, wasn't their best, and neither album charted, but there are a couple of gems that you'll greatly enjoy:
Every Little Thing (A Beatles cover which I think is better than the original)
Everyday and Today (One of my favorite beautiful songs by them, that almost no one has heard, or has reacted to, and I don't know why)
Survival (Considered by many to be their best song on their first album)
Everydays (From their second album. JustJP considered it their best song that no one ever recommended to him, and it confused him why no one ever did)
There are several others that I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy too: 'Then' 'Astral Traveller' 'No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed' 'Time and a Word'. Hope you get to them at some point.
Hey bro! I'll check out the early stuff soon. I'm gonna get through tormato, Drama in one go, and then we are going back to the beginning
@@L33Reacts Great. I'm looking forward to all of it.
By chance are you a fan of Fantasy Fiction, and have you ever played D&D? Just... curious 😏
I am a huge fantasy nerd in and out to be honest. From Tolkien to Gigax.
The actual tabletop game play and different things like never winter and such I'm not as well read but I know the world's In and out
@@L33Reacts Well then, I might have something that you'll enjoy.
See what you think. ttyl 🙂
Good pick Jeff
I would highly recommend Starship Trooper - Band Geek Episode 100 Ngl when I first heard this cover it sounded so much better than the original to me that I think I've felt a bit uncomfortable
Saw them on UK leg of this tour, of course it would be the last time, I would see this lineup play together 😢
EPIC
Absolutely!! This totally rocked
Love the Captain Beefheart CD behind you
Check out Jon Anderson with the Cleveland contemporary orchestra. If 😅you haven't seen this you will love it.
L33. Fuxake. Look after yourself. Your health always comes first. (You don't need to apologise if you miss a video).
have a look at the symphonic live 2001 performances for a real good time
Dude Check this tune on the yessongs album...it's....sick
This song is my anthem! I get yelled at to turn it down all the time, I turn it up. ( 1500 watts I can drown her out lmao!)
Hahahha sorry babe can't hear you over all this spiritual bliss bye
@L33Reacts It's more like warp drive now, Sulu, Scotty, give me all ya got! One time I turned on my whole house system she got the message.
I am a Starship Trooper lmao
Hi L33,
New subscriber here.
Yo my man you got to start getting into the Krautrock bands from the late 60s an early 70s there blow your mind
Jon's voice suffered from all the fog machines on their tours. He couldn't sing. Almost bought the farm. Yes continued on with a different singer Chris found on the internet
...early youtube vids, I believe, Benoit David. He also trashed his voice singing songs beyond his range and was replaced. Yes, could be cruel if your musicianship, from whatever, affected touring schedules.
Earlier live versions are better than this.
I did the yessongs version originally and I honestly prefer this one. Yeah it's a tad different but I think they were channeling something higher here!
@@L33ReactsCan't please everyone Lee, but I think 99.3% liked my choice!👍😎
