    I am a 60 year old granny and I just finished replacing the battery in my MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina Mid 2015. It was actually a breeze. The computer repair guy wanted to charge me more for labor than the battery cost me, so the savings in doing it myself have me patting myself on the back.

    Use fishing line to cut through the adhesive, and plastic cards to sit between the cut adhesive and the battery. This doesn't require any adhesive remover nor any prying to the battery. It makes light work of the process, the only difficult part is securing the laptop in place (an extra set of hands really help!).

    From my experience removing it, using only some retail label remover, I applied it using the spudger-scalpel, let it set and tried to remove the battery, it worked very well!. found out is easier to start in the base of the cells, the side that's closer facing to us, and then moving to the sides, one is enough to get enough clearence and pull up the batery cell to keep applying the remover. I had my battery cells swollen, so it was a little easier to apply but I had to be extra careful to remove.

    I can understand that the thickness of their laptops means the rigid casing on batteries has to go, but they have already solved the repairability troubles with their phone batteries by adding pull tabs. I can't imagine there would be thickness or thermal issues with using adhesive strips instead of straight glue. Yet another step by Apple to make laptop repair more difficult and make their products more disposable, no matter how eco-friendly they present themselves as.

    Thank you for posting. Personally I found it was not too bad at all. I delayed for weeks because how “hard” this says it was, but it was not bad at all. Just get the adhesive remover on the end of the plastic card, keep steady pressure on it and let it do the work. Keep working till the adhesive is released. The battery was out in less than 15 minutes much to my surprise. Just don’t force or pry, steady firm pressure and use the fluid to release the adhesive.

  • @nathansautodetail

    I take the motherboards out for the battery replacement to avoid possible damage. On the 15" retina you have to in order to take the speakers out. Doesn't take that much longer and it's good insurance. If you don't remove the motherboard on the 13", at least completely remove that I/O board cable, don't just bend it up. I've had at least two of those just crack on me from old age when removing and bending the cable. Plus it seems like it would be easy to damage just bent up like that.
    I put the adhesive remover on the card as well. I used to do these repairs without the adhesive remover until I found out about it. So much easier. Clean the chassis with alcohol after you remove all the adhesive though to get all the adhesive remover off. You don't want to leave liquid in a laptop and the new battery won't stick.
    Leave the plastic on the top of the new battery until you install it. It keeps it all together better and makes it easier to place down.

  • @daifuku74
    @daifuku74 4 года назад

    I feel you with the cursing. Remove the whole display first. Because if you have the slightest invisible crack in it, the pressure onto it will make the crack bigger. No need to remove the speakers. The most efficient way IMHO is to use solid thin wire and route it properly under the edge of each battery cell and pull towards you trying to stay the most parallel to the top case. Be very careful to the trackpad ribbon cable when you put the wire so you don't rip it. Overall yes it's a PITA, take your time, you'll get there.

    I do love how people think its a new thing of Apple making repairs more difficult, did you repair an eMac or swap out a dcin board in a 12” powerbook or the reed switch in any ibook just at the right angle under the top case for it to be smashed.

    I know I'm not weighing in while this video is still fresh LoL I have a pro tip when replacing the the battery you can use WD-40 as the adhesive remover. I sprayed a little into a soda bottle cap and used a plastic spudger dipped the tip into the WD-40 and slowly used it to apply under the batteries and just cautiously kept wedging tool all over till the battery was lifted. I followed up with a little Windex to remove the oil residue followed up with some rubbing alcohol to ensure clean dry surface. had no problems. Good luck :)

I've had some success keeping the glued elements under tension... in other words, keep pulling up the battery, while you add solvent to the side... capillary action will "wick" the liquid in, and attack the "new glue", as the battery comes up. I don't know what's in your iFixit Goo; I've used *dentured alcohol* (Ethyl Alcohol) before... Isopropyl does not work, in my experience.

    So that is a 2015 13" A1502. Pretty routine repair for me, but I could see it being difficult for a newcomer. That aluminum foil thought, LOL. Are we changing a battery or baking cookies? The Plastic on the side without adhesive is there to keep the cells aligned, making it easier to keep them straight when putting the battery in. My two pennies.

    The guide has 55 steps including removing the logic board and other steps not shown here. So are the 55 steps necessary or am I missing something?

    hey, i think you should know that you shouldn't speak to the top of that mic (it seems like blue yeti nano), instead you should speak to the front where the logo is

    It makes me sad that it's so messy to replace the battery especially while watching this on my 2015 MacBook Pro.. Recently my speakers started crackling too hahahahahaha.. Any idea how I can fix/replace the speakers? I dont care about Apple warranty (if any - m sure it isnt) but i dont wanna take chances as rest of the laptop is running fine..

    Imagine if Lego told you to superglue everything together so they could ignore physics in their designs. That’s how I feel about the electronics industry gluing down batteries.
