Mahalo (thanks) for sharing this. My Papa (dad) is on bass and there is one brief section of a real good view of him. Miss him!

Terry 5:44 Gibbs is still down here, in his 99th year. Great to hear Johnny Smith with BG shortly before his rise to guitar fame (Moonlight in Vermont). Invaluable upload. Thank you very much!

For all of the immensely popular songs and bands from the late 30's to the mid 40's, the five names mostly likely to be remembered far into the future will be Ellington, Basie, Hines, Goodman, and Shaw. The output of their careers in this period towers over all the rest.

“It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.”
    - Duke Ellington

So when you next ponder something, ask yourself “Does it swing?” If the answer is “no” then it means nothing.

One of my favourite songs played by one ( but NOT the only ) superb master of the clarinet. There was no one better than Goodman, but more than one was his equal. Thanks for posting. Oh…….and Teddy Wilson? Just Great.
