I love the new way of filming . Between that ( inset) and the tutorials , great to watch . I have been watching you since you began your videos they just get better and better
been in building trade well over 43yrs now and i must say how refreshing it is these days to see relaxed skilled trades men like you and your lads taking every day as it comes, really enjoy your vids and picking up a few tips along the way.cheers lads.
Actually like how you don’t edit out the mistakes you make , everyone makes mistakes! Nothing wrong with that , you explained how you will fix the mistake well done great stuff 👍
I have had a similar roof done on an extension recently. This has given me a real insight into how it was constructed. I have noticed though that we hear loud banging noises at certain times as though someone is on the roof when there isnt. Usually in the evenings. Great video.
I read banging noise comes from the contraction and expansion. Nobody seems to know if this is because of how the boards have been fitted or if its because the GRP is too rigid.
love the detail in this video.......just wish we could have seen the finished product with top coat of paint and flashing applied........but still none the less - love the detail and the fact you didn't take out the mistakes.
Nice job Dazza,First time i have seen it used, there have come a long way from the old bitchumen felt days, looking forward seeing the colour going on,Take Care
First thanks for some awesome insights in the building world very useful keep up the excellent work. However would you consider doing a garden build Birmingham pls?
Great vid again Darren very thorough and informative, loving your content especially these last two jobs you ve been doing. Always look forward to the next one. Great to see some of your drive into work too. Your a great guy mate I d love to work with you got same values as me I think. Could I just ask comparing fibre glass to rubber roof on the same size area which is more expensive ? take care mate.
I'm curious why the fiberglass on the outer parts of the roof where the trim is gets done first and the roofing fiberglass goes over that as opposed to the reverse.
if you have resin left before the next mix batch do you use it up on the area you've just done or chuck it? Also do you have to clean the bucket every time you do a new mix? How much do you mix at a time? Thanks
Depends on a lot of factors. We have done one yesterday, with 33°C outside, applied resin with matting, went for a lunch, came back, corrected bad stuff (as sometimes not visible right away), and painted coat over because resin was hard already. Time gap was 2.5-3 hours, but, previous roof been done with mid tens outside and we needed to wait for another day for resin to dry properly. Btw, the one we have done yesterday, we have added just 1/4th of recommended amount of hardener to resin, as we were afraid we won't have enough of time to apply it
We use sealant just to prevent rattling in the strong gusts. We have came across lots which just placed in without any sealant, and being there for years without issues.
@@marksolway4018 doesn't mater mate i fiberglass daily he's has installed it the correct way and if you matt up the upstand it will not delaminate, the pvc upstand on the sky light is ideally suited to grp. if you are worried just prep with a light sand before.

Thankyou I just keep it real, and simple
You are so thorough. I can imagine how some may cut corners and that’s why these types of roofs can fail.
Oooh I like the tourist drive through London. Thanks Darren. Hopefully I’ll be able to visit again one day. We’re still in lockdown here in Australia
Great the best video i found on RUclips covers about everything much appreciated doing very similar roof,Thanks.
Excellent. Your video composition is great also.
Great job mate made it look easy, I always wondered how it was done. 👍

birds make a lot of noise on flat roofs

I've learned a lot from your films, thanks for everything. ✔
Impressive work buddy...was more worried about you falling off the roof.
Really impressive stuff, Well done

Does your flat roof have a "fall" on it? What fixings did you use to tie in the rafters to the actual new brickwork?
Me gusta, esperando para verlo terminado. Thanks
hi mate ive bought smartply osb3 bourds do i need to sand them before applying the fiberglass ? thanks in advance

GRP is more expensive mate, but will last longer 👍🏻
@@stewala3069 thanks mate I m going to build a little gym and was wondering what roof to put on it.
@@deanevans7707 No problem Dean lad 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think they are quick similar in price at the moment. Grp might be a bit more
Am i seen right, is the brick work going to be a problem for the flashing, looking at the mortar joints they seem to rising up along your roof.
The roof is slightly angled so that the water can run off the roof that’s why it looks as though the mortar joints in the brickwork look offset
I'm curious why the fiberglass on the outer parts of the roof where the trim is gets done first and the roofing fiberglass goes over that as opposed to the reverse.
It’s just the way ya recommended by the manufacturer
Nice. I've never done this before. What are you like with torch on?
ive done a few times, Im decent but i havent done one in years now. Atleast 5
The smaller roller does it have spikes on it ? It sounds like it has. Great video lovely job.👏
It have horizontal grooves in it.

Just use as much as you can. Pour the last bits out and roll it. Then just mix in the same bucket straight away
@@darrenthebuilder thanks
Will you make video of inserting the flashing??, another good video Darren
Sure
How long does it take to dry before you can apply the paint please one of my clients is asking me to do this

Great video. What are the benefits of this over a rubber epdm roof?
It’s supposed to be more long lasting and resilient
Thanks
Do you have to seal behind the flashing against the brick?
No, its cut into the brickwork bed joint and fits over the upstand, then you seal the bed joint.
nothing with gluing the upstand to wall and to the flashing (chopped in of course), helps lock them in place
We use sealant just to prevent rattling in the strong gusts. We have came across lots which just placed in without any sealant, and being there for years without issues.
That GRP will delaminate from the skylight upstand. Also do you not use D260 trims for abutments?
How would you prep that ? Think I would glassed it all then fitted the window afterwards .
@@marksolway4018 doesn't mater mate i fiberglass daily he's has installed it the correct way and if you matt up the upstand it will not delaminate, the pvc upstand on the sky light is ideally suited to grp. if you are worried just prep with a light sand before.
Looks like a warm roof desin hense deep fascia
Hi Would it be possible to know how much money this type of job costs and how much the materials cost ! Thanks
Price depends on a lot of factors. We pay £130 for "Cure it" kit, to cover 12sq m

connection to the wall ???
It’s connected to a timber wall plate with hangers for the joists. There is a video in the series
Did not see a primer used to treat wood before first coat is their a reason why not used 🤔
You don’t use a primer on wood for fibreglassing. You only use a primer if you’re fibreglassing on to concrete
OSB3 top is waterproof, if sides are sealed properly. It is also manufacturers recommendation
why fibreglass and not rubber ?
It’s what the architect specified
