I am a research junkie and after riding the Trek Verve 1 Disc and the Trek Marlin 1 as well as the Dual Sport, I bought a Dual Sport today. It felt more versatile than the other two, and I felt more comfortable and in control riding it. I'm 5' 10" and got the Large in the Deep Dark Blue.

Have question about gearing. When the front gear was in 1 or 2 nothing changed. I had to push and hold it to change gear above the 2 where it's blank to get the front gear on the bigger gear. I rode it all day in that gear. Most of time rear gear was in 4 or 5.
took this today, was on dsicount, wanted to go to dual sport 2 but it was sold out. Will see how it goes.
Can you do a review on the 2022 FX 3, I’m really interested in that bike
I have a dual sport 1 and it honestly feels so good I rode for 3 hours even going uphill and didn’t get tired at all 😭 felt like a electric bike. Like I literally thought I was on a electric bike for a second. (I can’t go over 30 minutes riding a decent bike) but trek is just something else
Got mine preordered so hopefully I can get it in January so excited.
I recommend cancelling it and getting the ds2 cause it has the fork which can lockout !!!!
@@marsmars8857 I don’t need ds2 I think ds 1 will serve my purpose I’m never going off road I am mainly on pavement so I will just go with ds1 and save up for a Marlin or Roscoe in future
@@AstroOpiumChad2005 i think your confused. If your riding on paved roads thats where the lockout helps because without it the suspension robs you of foward motion. Trust me i have a ds2 if i don't lock the fork on the road it slows the bike down !
@@marsmars8857 Well I have a Trek Fx 2 to make up for it and I can always upgrade the fork plus roads get quite bumpy in my area why do I need lockout for that
I wonder why they are still using the older M310 rear derailleur, rather than the more recent version. That changed three years ago.
This is still a nice looking bike and very capable for a Dual Sport 1
I'm a huge fan of 2x drivetrains on commuter and Gravelbikes. I actually converted my Shoppingbike from 3x10 to 2x10 and it's so much nicer that way. This bike seems very sensible to me - for a budget bike I don't see a downside on this.
Agreed, this is spot on for an affordable hybrid.

Great review, James! I love the quicksilver w/ red logo! I think this is a great option for me…. I have a Marlin however I only use it for commuting on pavement….. thx again for the tips & expertise.
great review what u say legit true on the chain drive systems by 2x most efficiency ,try review giant flourish ,i fall down twice injured myseld because of that bike 😅 simply too fast and dangerous hybrid

I recommend cancelling and getting the ds2 model because it has the fork lockout !!!!
@@marsmars8857 yup have the DS2. Have it coming in soon. Now just gotta figure out how to connect the duotrap s to my phone that doesn't have ant+ and needs a dongle
@@LemonsGG I USE THE STRAVA APP. MAYBE TREK CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN HELP YOU... YOUR GOING TO REALLY ENJOY THE VERSATILITY OF THIS BIKE 😁 ... JUST DON'T RIDE ROUGH MTB TERRAIN.. MAKE SURE THE BIKE SHOP ADJUST THE DERAILERS TO SHIFT QUICKLY. I'M CURRENTLY RUNNING T9 BOESHIELD CHAIN LUBE.. AND 700X45 TIRES.
There is a $160 CAD difference between the Sport 1 and Sport 2 - is Sport 2 worth that difference?

You said 2022 at the start and 2021 at the end. Which is it?
I effed up... Sorry it happens. 2022 model, clearly so looking at the color and part spec if you did any digging. The entire video is about the difference and spec updates.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago but returned it the next day due to the terrible rattling noise coming from the internally routed cables.
Is there any point to the Dual Sport 1 with no lockout on suspension, surely this makes it obsolete ,so go for the Dual Sport 2
i own this bike fast and smooth.

I like this bike except for the brakes. They are really noisy. I tried to get the Trek dealer to fix them but he said it was characteristic of the bike. What? Really...He said he rode others and they sound the same. Not a good answer and just because it is an entry level bike, should not make it inferior. I use this as a cross over for working out on paved trails, dirt roads, paved roads and such. I have a mountain bike for my backyard which is Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs.
