The way Tom figured it out as SOON as it was mentioned that this was about asking the government to fix something was one of the more British things I've ever seen
I got this almost immediately, because for years, when driving down any particularly rough pot-filled road, I will almost invariably describe it as “a simulated lunar surface used by NASA for training astronauts.”
Tom this podcast is pure gold. I hope you get to do this as long as possible. I just wait for them every week. I also love to see all your guest - i got pleasantly surprised to see a lot of familiar faces🚀
4:00 Midway thoughts (because I hadn't a clue in my head before): it's a road safety PSA. "Wherever you are, no matter how remote or desolate, always look both ways before crossing, or also speeding/reckless driving can injure people."
Tom's exasperation at 1:44 is so reminiscent of his vid series where he explained how to become popular on the internet; where im almost certain he did the same headshakey part and said "thats not how it works" xD
This is the first time I was able to answer a question before the reader even finished reading the question. I guess it REALLY helps if you live in an area with a lot of potholes!
I think they got that one in fewer than 20 questions! It took a while to find the video, but I found it on Twitter. It *was* filmed in an actual downtown area.
I read that and the FIRST thing I thought was potholes, because, a similar thing happened in my city of Bengaluru, without the flag. It reminded me of that
I mean, he'd face revealed himself in some earlier videos, notably the channel intro and the continuous sidewalks one, and then went audio & illustrative footage only for a long time.
First world people just have no idea about the problems of developing worlds. As someone from a developing country I got this at the very first line, the performance artist was highlighting the pathetic situation of road in his country that the road is filled with so many potholes that it look like a moon surface.
Actually Hidalgo (the state where is Pachuca) has relatively good roads. The neighboring Estado de México and also Puebla are actually the famous ones in Mexico for their roads being a disaster and always needing repairs
Wasn't this relatively recent? This was one of the first I knew instantly as I remembered seeing the video on Twitter a couple of months ago. Though the way Twitter works this could have been from a decade back and reuploaded recently and told as current news.
Jay looks like he's broadcasting from the basement of an arctic research station Edit: I'm a moron hes just sitting in a car I blame my internet for low resolution
Hello, Cave Johnson here. Here's some advice the lab boys gave me in case you mix up your moon dust with pixie dust: 'Do not mix up your moon dust with pixie dust.' Cave Johnson, we're done here
The thing is asphalt is not a very long living material depending on the load and its very expensive in the long run. Cars & pavement are just not the answer for future transportation. Shoutout to NotJustBikes. Too bad I live in Germany and not Netherlands or Denmark. Although they have other issues as well. :D
They're either provided by us, or a listener, but some guests are now writing their own and we hope to encourage more of this in the future. It can just take a little time and co-ordination for it to happen.
Wow, that’s not what I was expecting at all. I was thinking it was going to be this thing testing attention span, where some people would be like “Mexico landed on the moon!” for those who didn’t watch it the whole way through.
I was thinking to myself, "I've seen this video, but i thought it was Indian" and feeling bad about my flag knowledge, only to find out that the original video was Indian.
The original Indian video is by Baadal Nanjundasswamy. Apparently the concept is that the astronaut thought he landed on the Moon because the potholes looked like craters. ruclips.net/video/gxZDn0UHEBY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/Alf-t-wFJL0/видео.html He did other funny takes on the problem. ruclips.net/video/FeRdFhlfS9I/видео.html
A viral video shows an astronaut ina space suit, walking slowly on a rugged surface. He is holding a Mexican flag. Suddely, the illusion is broken when a car drives past. What was the video's purpose?
...huh, I dug up the videos but I guess I forgot to hit Reply. Short version because I can't bother to check my browser history for the links again: Originally done in Bengaluru, India, was repeated (with permission) in Mexico. Most of the videos I found are the Indian version, there are a few with both side by side that imply it was an unauthorized copy. I found one clean version of the Mexican one hosted internally on a news site.
No video?!? How you make a video with no context? Am I missing something? I felt left out the whole video waiting for them to play a clip, I mean maybe there’s nothing to really see but come on
I was fully expecting to actually see the clip they were talking about but no. Without the clip there was no point in the video. Thumbs down from me I'm afraid.
This one was tricky. I was glad I was the one asking the question, not answering it. I'm even more glad to live in a country without potholes.
Hahaha, I knew this comment would be here.
Where potholes are so much of a special incident that transportation nerds drop everything to get their cameras to film it :P
Video on potholes in horizon for NotJustBikes?
@@nikeipod1 unlikely. But there is one moment in one of his videos where he comments on them, and he films the only one he's ever seen in Amsterdam.
I heard that voice and was like "Oh that sounds just like the 'Not Just Bikes' guy."

Oh my goodness, the absolute disdain dripping from Jays voice when he says "a tiktok" 😂
Gonna be honest, when Tom mentioned potholes, I pictured a car hitting a pothole so hard it got sent to the moon.
I just want to say how much I appreciate the excellent captioning on these videos
Tom Scott’s a vociferous advocate of captioning on RUclips.

There are already several comments below that contain the link.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Kerbal Space Program (a space game / simulation created by Mexicans). Though I guess that'd be a _Mün_ landing.
I had no idea it was created by Mexican developers! Now I want Scott Manley on the podcast
