For him, realistically speaking, we can't know how Superman would turn out because HE'S NOT HUMAN, and we can't know how his psyche works. BUT in Homelander's case, we could because he IS HUNAN. The TV's Homelander could be diagnosed with: * Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). *Attachment Disorder. * Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). * Antisocial personality disorder. This is all because of how he was raised, in a laboratory without any human contact, without affection, not even a pet. This makes Homelander feel VERY insecure, very resentful, develop a God complex and desperately crave affection. And that need for affection, the need to be admired, is what stop him from going on a total rampage and killing everyone. BUT if Homelander had been raised like Superman he could be even more dangerous to everyone. This is because Homelander would be confident in himself, and that causes him to not seek affection or approval as desperately. That way, he wouldn't have the same restrictions as TV's Homelander. This Homelander would be EXTREMALY FRUSTATED, because realistically speaking, even if he genuinely tries to save people, he would end up killing them because he is just TOO POWERFUL, like in the Diabolical episode. Not to mention that he could only have sex with powerful superheros, otherwise he would kill any normal woman or any less powerful superhero during orgasm. This Homelander would be EXTREMELY BORED, because he has no challenge, no real rival, no purpose in life, he doesn't need money, and he already has the fame. And as my cousin told me: "When we are BORED, we tend to do STUPID things." For example, Homelander might detonate a nuclear bomb just to see if he can survive. Or create a rival for him (a supervillain), something similar to what he did in season 1 when he spread compound v to create superterrorists. etc Homelander would do anything to end his boredom, even if it could kill everyone.

Trying to psychologically torture superheroes isn't inherently "crazy" just evil, which seems to be how the joker is always portrayed, there's no inherent insanity when you're consistent. Whereas Homelander is legitimately unhinged and emotionally unstable

One of the aspects I love about the show is how evil the villains are, but because of their backstory, it's understandable, even if they are still evil.
It helps that Starr’s performance really delves into the pathologies of someone raised like a lab rat who ended up worshipped like a god.

My cousin is a psychiatrist who also likes this series and he told me something VERY interesting when we were talking about Homelander and Superman, and what could have happened if Homelander had been raised as Superman. For him, realistically speaking, we can't know how Superman would turn out because HE'S NOT HUMAN, and we can't know how his psyche works. BUT in Homelander's case, we could because he IS HUNAN.
The TV's Homelander could be diagnosed with:
* Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).
*Attachment Disorder.
* Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
* Antisocial personality disorder.
This is all because of how he was raised, in a laboratory without any human contact, without affection, not even a pet. This makes Homelander feel VERY insecure, very resentful, develop a God complex and desperately crave affection. And that need for affection, the need to be admired, is what stop him from going on a total rampage and killing everyone.
BUT if Homelander had been raised like Superman he could be even more dangerous to everyone.
This is because Homelander would be confident in himself, and that causes him to not seek affection or approval as desperately. That way, he wouldn't have the same restrictions as TV's Homelander. This Homelander would be EXTREMALY FRUSTATED, because realistically speaking, even if he genuinely tries to save people, he would end up killing them because he is just TOO POWERFUL, like in the Diabolical episode. Not to mention that he could only have sex with powerful superheros, otherwise he would kill any normal woman or any less powerful superhero during orgasm.
This Homelander would be EXTREMELY BORED, because he has no challenge, no real rival, no purpose in life, he doesn't need money, and he already has the fame. And as my cousin told me: "When we are BORED, we tend to do STUPID things." For example, Homelander might detonate a nuclear bomb just to see if he can survive. Or create a rival for him (a supervillain), something similar to what he did in season 1 when he spread compound v to create superterrorists. etc
Homelander would do anything to end his boredom, even if it could kill everyone.
