    Disclaimer don't take any soldering advice from me haha. also I tell you what. when your building all day and painting, its impossible to keep clean nails. I don't know how people do it! I nail brush all the time and 1 hour later boom! it's back. maybe I need to stop painting everything black ha

      Blue nitrile gloves work for me (when painting) but they are annoying and sweaty. keeps the hands clean tho. takes some getting used to. :p

    • @rdoes6696
      @rdoes6696 4 года назад +2

      @@illnessofjeez you could get away with any cheap glove for painting. I save my nitrile for more dexterous finger work, when lesser quality gloves might break, usually greasy automotive-jobs. And I always have rubbing alcohol and Goof-off to battle the crud.

      THE MUSEUM OF EVERYTHING ELSE toxic chemicals are being absorbed into your skin. You REALLY want to be wearing gloves regardless of their difficulty. Much easier to deal with than cancer.

    As someone who’s trying to get into building a module, it’s extremely helpful to see the process from start to finish. Just to figure out which aspects I need to research more.
    So thank you very very much for being so transparent about it all!
    I’d give an arm and a leg to discuss my current project and it’s challenges with you over a pint, but these 3 videos are for sure the next best thing.

    Just calibrated mine, after 'not getting round to it' for several months since building it. Seems to fit perfectly in a wooden wine box. Great stuff, many thanks. Stay Safe xx

    Tip and something i would love to see, use version control for your code! why would you want version control?
    1. it gives you history and an overview of what you changed through time, so if you introduced bugs or issues
    you can find the point where they were introduced for example.
    2. people can contribute through say pull request and tidy up your code or add awesome new features
    (i am sure people are creative!)
    3. it allows you to track issues with your code, and allows people to help and fix them!

    SAM! If your solder shows up in a circular ball, it's cold! Warm up the pin and the metal it will be attached to at the same time and it should suck straight into it!

    • @dcurry7287
      @dcurry7287 4 года назад +1

      Solder can also ball up like that if you add way too much. If you're impatient while soldering it's easy to keep adding before it's fully heated, then it'll never visually wick fully. I had that problem a lot when I was starting and couldn't figure out why until a friend told me I was drowning each joint hahaha.

      @@dcurry7287 you both notice my bodged solder on a ground pin. it worked, that was the issue I mentioned in the previous video.

    Good explanation on the adjustments...I was thinking re your previous video, that definitely before you put ICs in sockets you should make sure the voltage regulators are working correctly...or it may turn into a long bad day.

    • @THISMUSEUMISNOTOBSOLETE
      @THISMUSEUMISNOTOBSOLETE  4 года назад +2

      indeed! luckily in this specific module, even. if the voltage regulators were some how sending the full voltage, nothing would break. the 7805 is a security measure, and the other one is just a reference :)

    The PCB's and faceplate arrived in the post today. Now just need the components and then I'm ready to go. So excited I can't tell you I never thought it would be possible to build a huge modular unit like my heroes of the past. Interesting you mention drifting it was something we had to deal with in the past and was just part of the fun of playing live with analogue gear. Thanks for all your work on these modules.

    I wonder if the trimming range for the reference needs to be that huge from 0 to full voltage. In that configuration all the temperature error from RV3 will have a lot more impact than using a 5K trimmer and a 100K resistor to ground. Limiting the Ref adjustment to 3.9...4.1V. But anyway. Awesome circuit and good videos!

      because the thing with an analog oscillator is I can see a situation where its a bit hotter in a gig, you adjust it and its slightly next to the centre indent and you can't get in tune
