You can already notice the malaise and fatigue that the cancer was causing. He looks exhausted. One of the saddest days of my life when he left us. One of the few, genuine musical geniuses of our age, nothing presumptuous at all about him.

He was also always burned the midnight oil to the nth degree working on his music. And being continually outraged and appalled by what goes on the world takes a lot out of one too. The world doesn't give a fuck about intelligent, sensitive people..

This high school educated guy was one of the true commensense geniuses the country has produced. The section around 6:00, where he talks about subtracting the spin from the news, then averaging the results, is right on, and he articulates it so simply. He had a great talent for presenting simple explanations of complex concepts, with equal measures of weary skepticism and good-humored optimism. Thoughtful and interesting on a wide variety of topics, and an almost impossibly productive artist.

Yeah, a bit of strange reply by Frank, who was such an engaged, prolific man. His illness was probably making him feel too tired in general and so the idea of touring probably didn't appeal to him. Very sad. He could still be out there today!

It's my story but gives you all of the above when I lived and worked in his house. 'Freak Out! My Life with Frank Zappa 1968-1971 Laurel Canyon'

  • @shadegat3996

It was just another form of creating music which was being done in the 70s. Zappa himself would overdub guitar solos from live tours onto studio tracks. I would hardly call the solos "Fake" Music had to change! I grew up on Zappa and the previous few decades of music. Dance music gave us a new direction. What Frank refers to was happening in the 50s and 60 , too. The industry have always used smoke and mirrors and bands use these things on stage, too.
