Congratulations on the new bike! I have a 2014 Tiger Explorer, which is very similar. They didn't have all the fancy terminology back then, and the electronics are less advanced. You mentioned the seat adjustment. One thing they may not tell you at the Triumph dealership is you can have the two ends of the seat adjusted differently. I found with both ends low or both ends high, I was sliding forward down the seat and getting my intimate parts squashed against the tank. I now keep the front of the seat set high and the back set low, so if I slide I go the other way, and my butt comes to rest against the pillion seat. That makes a big difference in overall comfort.

Great choice, hard to go wrong with either bike. Craig at Living of The Slab just finished riding over 12k miles to Alaska on his Tiger. He is very happy with the performance.

Almost on my way to buy one Rally Explorer to, need to sell my snowmobile and my Speed Triple first.... love the way you can lower suspension in city , trafficlights with push on a button on right steering handle..( home-button) .... then you got both feet flat on street. 😊😊

Got my Tiger 1200 at the end of june last year ive done 11,500 miles now and loved every one of them
My FJR had an electric screen but by the time you go through the menus its quicker to just move it up by hand. I have a Cosmo mount it replaces the handle on the screen to mount a satnav to and your still able to move the screen up and down ok

      ha!
Yeah the one thing so far I've noticed in the ride comparison is the 21" wheel on the Tiger does feel a bit slower to pitch in on curves, the 19" on the GS is a lot sportier. The GS I rode in Dolomites handled great. But I'm sure I'll adjust to the Tiger 1200.

Great bike, it was one of the bikes on my list. It was the bike you have, KTM 1290 SAS, and the Africa Twin adventure sport with DCT. Coming from my first bike I had for 6 months , KLR650 S, I got the 2024 ATAS with DCT.
Easy choice considering, new to riding, and size 18 feet made shifting a nightmare😂. The tiger 900 was on the list as it was more DIY friendly, but the shifting limitations put me on the DCT. But it’s like going from a WW2 jeep (KLR) to a Ford Expedition, smooth handling, comfortable , loaded with tech and better fuel range.

Nice bike John! Those Triumphs are sharp and the 1200 is huge. That’ll be a great road trip bike. I’d probably get the 850 sport or 900 which seems to fit me better. I love the downtown video of Cola. That must have been a Sunday ride, hardly any traffic. Ride Safe!

I like a bit of real estate at the front to protect my legs. The new GS doesn’t give that any more. Much prefer the engine of the Tiger as well. The GS sounds like a tractor with clunky gears

You bike is great offroad by the way. I just came cack from a big ride with plenty of offroad. Fortunately I have not fallen over because it is a heavy bike to pick up. I had the last 1200 Tiger version as well and had to pick that one up once. It was not easy. I am not looking forward to the day that I have to pick this one up but that thought is not going to stop me going offroad. I am planning my next offroad trip right now.

I am looking forward to planning a trip for this bike. On one hand I'd like to do a big cross country, maybe out to Black Hills SD and such, but on the other hand the new South East BDR should be coming soon and there's a possibility I might be able to do that plus the Mid Atlantic maybe. It all comes down to getting enough time off from work.

it comes down to the settings for me, does it keep your settings ? and, can the front suspension be adjusted independently from the rear? the gs can't, ducati has the best setup so far that i've seen, i can set the forks how i want, then dial the rear in to match , the range of settings is fairly limited , and the different ride modes affects damping as well, but with a bit of trial and error i can get it where it's fun to ride, and it's set and forget, but your Tiger has the looks and apparently a dyno tune will see it outperform the competition, and it instantly felt comfortable when i sat on one. might be time for the Green Lantern to make an appearance in the garage.

IMO a big adventure bike is perfectly fine for a BDR once you get used to the bike. I did the NEBDR hard sections on my 1290SA numerous times without a problem (i live in southwestern NH so it's a frequent day ride). Just gotta go a bit slower than a mid sized bike. A small thumper just makes those rides boring.
