I’m the camper in my family and so it’s up to me to try and fix mine. I ripped both the grey and black off together… I’ve had no idea where or how to start the repair. I can’t thank you enough for this tutorial. If I manage to fix it myself I’ll owe you big time. I hate the idea of having to take my trailer to a dealership to fix it and have them charge me an arm and a leg but I didn’t grow up with this kind of thing (we always tented and said that those with trailers weren’t really camping, but as a mom going by herself with 4 kids I’ll gladly take an easier route and let my pride take a hit 🤣)
Bottomed out backing out of my inclined driveway and cracked my combo gray/black water valved. Ordered all my parts from Home Depot and Ace Hardware. Getting ready to tackle the plumbing "puzzle" of turns and elbows this weekend.
Thanks for the video. I hit a stump on Memorial day weekend and tore my drain valve off. Took it to Camping World and a month and a half later they still hadn't finished the fix because 'shipping on the tank-to-pipe adapter' was taking forever. They couldn't even guarantee when it would show... said it could be months! I googled it, found the part for $7 and had it in my hands less than a week later. I'm getting ready to fix it myself so a few tips I saw on your video will help a lot! Heading to Lowe's today to get the pipe and fittings I need!
@@MileHighCampers I did!! Finished it last night and it looks great! I would not have known to use silicone sealant between the hub and the tank if it wasn’t for your video! Thanks!!
Mine broke off at the join like in the video. I happened to have a threaded coupler attached, (welded) to a slightly smaller pipe lying around. It came from under a sink I repaired a couple of years ago. The smaller dynamiter threads were perfect to threat into the broken joint with a very tight fit. First, I heated the joint with a heat gun, and then screwed the threated joint into place. This created a fitting stronger than before with a fit tight enough to seal itself alone. Nonetheless, I will zap the outside with Flex Seal spray to make double sure. To join the smaller pipe to the bigger, I found a rubber PVC coupler (1 3/8 to 2 in, I believe) at Home Depot - perfect fit. If I were repairing black water pipes, I would not have a smaller pipe/larger pipe combination. This would cause the solids to hang up and clog the system.
That is ABS pipe it is glued. The heat gun will not help removing the broken piece. You can chip the fittings out. Do it often as a plumber . Alos a sa plumber it makes me shudder every time you call them sleeves or connectors lol.Its A MJ coupling.
I am repairing/refurbishing my gray and black water tanks (2000 Jayco trailer). I pulled the pipes off the tanks, and discovered they had sealed the pipe going into the tanks with a black, tar-like substance. I can't find where to get that stuff, and nobody can tell me what it is and where to get it. (For reference, the guys in the video called it goop.)
My personal experience with Camping World has not been very good, I realize some people love them, but it just seems like every time I have gone to them it has not been a great experience... plus the whole you gotta pay to be a member to get special pricing (which I have done in the past), I have found the same parts cheaper else where with no member fees... so I really only go there as a last resort or emergency like this... but as you can see we ended up having to improvise!! Thanks for watching!!
Isn’t that ABS cement and not PVC cement? And you should never use silicone. Use an appropriate sealant. Silicone will fail and nothing sticks to silicone.
LOL, glad to save you some time!! Yes CW was no help to me, and the repair we did lasted while we owned this camper, didn't look pretty necessarily but it worked!!
FYI wasps can sense your pheromones So when you start freaking out, they'll attack If you stay calm and mind ya biz, they'll leave you alone (; Had a few chill on me while I was working on my busted up pipe No stings just curious kitties It was nice company LMAO
Good video and helpful. The bird must be the sidewalk supervisor.

Helpful!
Thanks for the feedback!
So..did you consider getting the heat gun out, removing the broken pipe from both ends and replacing it?
Good idea, thanks for sharing your tip!

So... you're not happy with Camping World? Haha! Thanks for the video. Nice to have access to tips for the not-so-rich camper!
