Hey Neil, I also have diagnosed adhd and struggle to find an organisation plan that works for me, looks of notes and planners. However, I have just got a brand new job which is a trainee position requiring me to go to university. I am so excited! And very grateful as I’ve been a single mum a long time and have my own online business. I’m hoping motion will be the solution for me, it sounds amazing. Just need to learn how to navigate it, once I master it I’m hoping it will get rid of my 6 different note books. I’m a 34 year old female diagnosed and medicated with some serious ADHD, I’m also highly creative and compassionate. Loved your video, thanks for being so honest and open and making me feel a little sense of belonging. I can’t wait to get the grasps of how to navigate notion! Bring on uni and full time work while being a single mum and running my own side hustle - thanks for the inspiration
Hey, I hope that it helps - it's definitely been useful for me. I think a big part of surviving and thriving with adhd is knowing what works, what works sometimes and what doesn't, no one tool is a panacea, but collections of tools and coping strategies all used at once can make massive differences to our quality of life. Excited for you!
I will say that it definitely isn’t a jump in and go experience: it took me about a month to get comfortable with it and get it set up the way I wanted it to work, but there’s so many amazing tutorials and templates out there that can help the learning curve flatten out.
Keep it very simple and minimalist, and don't go overboard wasting time with aesthetics... you're not alone, Notion can be maddening to wrap your brain around unless your intent is to keep it extremely focused and minimalistic. Good luck.
Thanks for this, Neil. I have pretty full-on ADHD, although apparently not as bad as some folks here! I've been using Notion for a while, and while it's capable of so much more than I've been able to understand, it's nonetheless been super helpful. Glad we're on the same page!
It’s always great to hear from more people that are finding it a useful tool in managing their ADHD. Hoping to make a few more videos about this over the next few months!
Great video! I have been using Notion for a few months now, and I mostly use it for writing scripts/notes and some project planning, even tho I can use it more efficiently. It really helped me already by finding more peace in the chaos of life.
Great video brother!! I was just looking for a productivity app and stumbled across yours. I didn't know it would also help with my ADHD. Huge bonus. Thanks for the recommendation and taking the time to put this video together. I love the story arch, structure and execution you did in this. Keep it up!
@@NeilEvansRocks Super useful - I actually watched a couple times over. Any chance you've got recommendations on a calendar template that lets you add times for events?
I would love to see the way your Notion is set up! I tried some templates but didnt work for me in the past. I also struggle with notebooks (I always forget to take it with me) so I'm willing to give another chance to this app
I'm in the middle of filming a video on my setup with a few links to some of the quick start guides and templates that helped me get up and running... I like you love notebooks, but struggle to use them/not lose them - I won't lie - a few years in I'm still using notion alongside notebooks, but notion is definitely the primary port of action on my phone and my Mac.
great video mate, lmao. when you held up the stack of Moleskines i was like ok damn, this guy is like me. 😝 im experimenting with Notion for work/practical and Obsidian for personal/private now.
Hi there Neil keep doin the vlog 😊🎉. i just got email from Notion team last Friday about new templates gallery. this website is best (or not I’m not sure haha 😅) for reminder and todo list have a many tool to used it, can sync cross platforms, devices. anyway i am looking forward you make a next vlog, however can you tell me a little bit for next what about vlog. ?
I think if you’re using templates - and i’d totally recommend finding a few good notion template sites and grabbing the ones that work for you - that notion’s fairly steep learning curve can be massively smoothed out, I found that I’d got it working for me pretty quickly 4 or 5 weeks before I found myself not looking at it thinking “why the hell did it do that?” - i also think there’s WAY more support out there today - there are some amazing RUclips channels just dedicated to quick/efficient set ups
Hey I made another video here: ruclips.net/video/1HNTpupkohU/видео.html that has some of the templates I recommend (free within notion) to get yourself into the ecosystem pretty quickly and without the danger of breaking notion or you getting too lost I'd definitely start with basics like Habit Tracking, Work Goal Management and Journaling, just to get an idea of what the system can do for you.
Notebooks are your best friend if you have ADHD. Not sure where on the ADHD spectrum you are. But people on the extreme end like me are not going to use that thing. How are we supposed to learn how to use it. We can't unless someone does it for us. We can barely remember to keep our phones charged. Digital and ADHD don't match.
As I said in the video. I used notebooks with my adhd for years: my adhd is pretty extreme, I have almost no ability to build habits: I can do something successfully for months and if I break a habit it’ll never happen again. So this is my personal experience: notebooks (as I said in the film) did work up to a point; but I suffered from simply buying new notebooks all the time, losing them, using them once and then having the rest of my thoughts scattered across multiple other books - I find the digital tools a source of a dopamine hit that encourages me to actually actively use them as a replacement for endless lists in endless notebooks.
If that doesn’t work for you personally then definitely stick with the systems that do, but everyone has varying life experiences with their neuro-spicy brains: different solutions work for different people and we should celebrate people finding solutions or workarounds that have success in helping their individual circumstances. I certainly would never claim to speak for everyone or even every facet of the ADHD/Aud spectrum, I can only share what’s worked for me.
@@NeilEvansRocksI think the commenter is talking about the step-by-step of setting notion up and I concur. I have both the desktop and phone app but I can't make heads or tails of it, hence searching for videos, hence finding yours. I would have liked to learn from you how to make it work from me. I hope other videos teach this.
@diamond852 the learning curve is definitely steeper than ideal. Would you be interested I am video from me or the set up / templates I use to lazily set this up?
@@NeilEvansRocks i would. Just yesterday I spent what felt like hours trying and failing to format my notes in notion. It's a great concept but the learning curve 😫
