Today Lay takes me to the place she grew up the childhood neighborhood. We tried all the local street foods and drinks and her mom has recently opened a food eatery so of course we had to drop by give a tour and eat the food.

Tom walks in to Lay's Moms place and I am watching thinking watch your head Tom. Then as he is eating after doing the math for a couple weeks said it is 30 degrees out and they still eat hot soup. I started laughing and thinking pst Tom it can be 100 and I still drink hot coffee. As a child not long ago just a couple years ago. My family would eat cold foods on really hot days and eat hot meals at night I love that Lay's family work together as a team.
Guys, thank you so much for the intro to the local community. I am always so drawn to these areas rather than places like BGC or Makati. There just seems to be so much more life there.

Soo nice to visit Lays old neighbourhood. Eating out in the local areas. Supporting the community by eating out. That's what Liza n I do on Camotes Island. Supporting the community by eating out in their establishments . We sell Siomai in our Tugas restaurant. I also add Bagoong spicy paste to my Siomai as I love the spiciness. ❤❤❤

I love this type of area in the Philippines...I don't like the word..Slum but I like the back alley of the Philippines there is some really good people and its not all bad
I appreciate your vlogs in Manila. I used to live there 24 years ago before I migrated to 🇺🇸 and have not been back since. Your videos make me feel nostalgic but at the same time amazed to see some changes (except traffic situation has not really changed since I left in 2000) I don’t mind seeing you eat in carinderias and try street food locals eat. It’s authentic and “adventurous”. It’s interesting to see how a foreigner “experiences “ and appreciates Filipino dishes….I think you and Lay click because she is willing to travel and explore as much as you do. More power to Tom&Lay vlogs.

Tom and Lay, you should also feature buffet around Metro Manila, not just carenderia or poor man's eatery. Have a balanced portrayal of Filipino food. Buffet 101, Vikings buffet, buffet at Okada and many more. Breakfast buffet are less expensive so it's the better option. 😊

Hello Tom , we filipino if we think the budget for foods esp. for an ordinary people in terms of living lifestyle we prefer to eat in carenderia as long as we appreciate everything is ok, coz when it comes to big restaurant its to expensive but same quality its ok to eat at carenderia👍☺️

Great vlog - two thumbs up - best life in Manila video I've seen all year! Ok, ok, I am biased - this is the sort of content I am personally interested in seeing more of.... :) No extremes of skyscrapers vs. slums, rich vs. poor.
Cost of living question: Is it possible for a foreigner to find apartment/room rentals in these types of neighborhoods? If so, what would you guess it would cost per month?

It's funny when Lay said while still eating siomai and drinking avocado shakes said " we are going to have lunch now" .😄😄😄 Here in Canada, my husband and I only eat once a day. It's not because we can't afford it, because we can and we eat well, but because we are just used to eating only once a day.
