I gotta be honest I think. The Chicago market was definitely big enough for it tracks at the time, as well the facilities at the Cicero track were pretty top notch, I firmly believe if they had more short track series such a silver crowns and late models and basically had been a Milwaukee mile 2 type situation this track could’ve held on for much longer
Idc what anyone say leaving Chicagoland speedway was a bad decision a unique track with its own history and greatest moments and great racing during its time i hope it returns especially with the next gen car which is the bread and butter with 1.5 mile tracks
Good show Danny. I'm all in favor of returning to Chicagoland and ditching the stupid road course AFTER NASCAR returns to the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
To be fair, CART had decent races here but I still argue the area it was in wasn't helping much, IIRC at that time Cicero had issues with crime and other issues that put a damper on the track. My abiding memories of it came from CART 1. Pace car looping it before the race, and 2. JPM being outraced by perennial backmarker Luis Garcia Jr, and getting passed, for position and JPM being very much irate at that one. I mean, that's the equivalent of a RWR car going past a Hendrick car on merit and speed and pace. It was glorious to watch happen, then Garcia held him off for a good few laps too EDIT: Oh yeah and 3. CGR having both their cars painted identically and confusing Paul and Parker for the whole day, too. Thanks, whoever signed off on that one. And I thought keeping an eye on the mid 90s Feraris were hard with the only distinguishing feature being the yellow marks on the front and rear wings...
DannyBTrainz!?!?!?!?! Yeah hold my beer Im gonna go subscribe! Great video here! I totally never realized even though I watched all these racees Live, Never realized it was two different places lol Guess I just forgot about the smaller track. Also dont be sorry for how long it takes you to put together another video, Your not on a schedule, and Us true followers will watch whatever comes next Danny. You go at your pace, You make great videos man.
I appreciate that. Unfortunately, the reality is that RUclips’s algorithm puts you on a schedule. If you can’t put together the type of content that works and on a consistent schedule, it likes to leave you behind.
@@DannyBTalks Alright welll I only did a small amount of youtube vids, I never got a huge following and I was kinda just messing around for gaming, But I didnt get to see details like that, In which case that sucks, Either way, Your videos always get a like from me, Usually before opening credits are over with just so you know.
It’s sad that this track was only open for such a short time. I don’t feel any track could’ve gotten their bearings in that amount of time. Also, why build it if Chicagoland was in development talks at the time? Either way, you think there’s enough racing around where both could peacefully co-exist. Now, one of completely gone and the other is a cookie cutter that presumably sits unused at the moment in favor of a downtown street course. Chicago needs to take a lesson from Indianapolis on how to keep multiple tracks open at one time (insert S1ap’s last video here).
Nashville is the only place that I feel has the potential to see successful use of two separate venues for two dates in the schedule, with the Fairgrounds and the Superspeedway.
What, New York pizza gets no love? I didn’t notice this before, but Chicago looks too much like Milwaukee. Maybe that’s why it didn’t stand out. I really didn’t remember a lot about it other than it wasn’t really special and it was just a race to watch when you wanted to watch a race. Plus I think the day of the flat oval was long passed by when the track opened. Homestead had been open for four years by that point and the racing there was woefully unremarkable until they installed the progressive banking in the corners.
The reason they leave is because of attendance and ratings so they killed it in favor for the street coarse....and pretty much because of f1 taking over too.

First ever truck race I watched was 2000 running of this race. For years thought the two tracks were same. Just reconfigured. Lol.

I miss Chicago hopefully we can get it back along with Rockingham hopefully they come back sone
It feels like it's just NHMS with the Chicago skyline in the background instead of vegetation and... vegetation

What a shame. They built this track and only hosted Cup races for 3 years. So sad.
Detroit style…”hey look guys it’s square!”
There’s no crust in lasagna bubba
Leaving Chicagoland was a Big Mistake
Covid was so polarizing.

The iceberg watching this video intensely
Probably didn’t like my Mike Ditka praise.

Good video. What truck was Kyle Busch driving in his second start when he ran out of gas?
