Well said. I love my Shilton. Strong as an ox and easy to maintain, change bearings, etc. A serious drag for saltwater fly fishing, which I do a lot of.
Cheers from Maine,USA; I love your videos and thank you very much.
Thank You So Very Much for the video. Can you Please tell me, which "large arbor" Shilton has The Most line Capacity, for such species as the Largest King Salmon in big heavy water, where you need the main fly line, Sinking Tips and a lot of Running line and backing, Please???!! Thanks again 😊
Another overlooked brand is danielsson reels, they are also fantastic I have three, never let me down.
Definitely like a clicky drag, preferably on the quieter side but still tactile and audible. I'd like to know how this compares to other fully machined disc drag reels you've tried, there are some on the market in the £150-250 range that are much more justifiable than this.
No Clicker No Deal but its a lovely reel and great review👍
There seem to be a lot of fly reels in that price bracket and I fail to see why such a very very simple device like a fly reel should cost so much.
I still use a Rimfly I bought over 50 years ago - used it last week with an old cane rod for some great river dry fly fishing - clean it and grease it every winter and it still keeps going strong.
@@steveshannon7441 Still got my first one, and several others. Probably one of the most popular fly reels ever produced in this country.
@jorvikangler I had 2 x Gearfly when they came out - the insides gave up recently - have a couple of Leeda LC 100 that I sometimes use on boats - I treated myself to a nice Shimano for river fishing a while ago which has a good drag but I never use the drag.
And still the Rimfly keeps on keeping on - simple is best sometimes
@@steveshannon7441 The LC series were a nice reel probably on of the first cassette reels. Still a lot about. Wasn't struck with the Gearfly and swapped mine for a small Rimfly.
@jorvikangler I thought Gearfly was a good idea at the time - but the gears gave out eventually.
Great review Andy. I’m not looking for a new reel, but if you don’t mind I’ll make 2 comments: first, the bag looks exactly like the one Abel supply, which must be good; second, I agree that a silent reel is good. It’s the only complaint I have about the Hardy Perfect.
I prefer a click the louder the better why be the only one who knows you caught a fish 😂🙄
Dannielsson just as good £170…
which model Danielson?
A good review but personally I do like a click especially if I am guiding/coaching. I could not justify the cost as there are plenty of cheaper makes that do the job.
I am divided. I need to stop buying expensive fishing tackle but I really need to buy one of these. I think I can justify it if I call it an investment 😉
Got one of these, absolutely love it, will outlast me I’m pretty sure. Thought about the cost for a while, but once I had it wished I’d bought it months before :-) Simple, reliable and built to last, thinking about my second one now. Don’t like clicking reels either, silent everyday for me cheers Simon
As my grandfather (a sound Yorkshireman!) used to say, "Buy cheap, buy twice". This looks like a great buy to me.
I'm glad Shilton is gaining traction there. Own a number of shiltons for dry fly and euro. The majority of the comp guys and guides all use shilton here in South Africa. Buy right the first time, buy a Shilton.
Andy, a great review and we are very happy to hear you love Shilton as much as we do. Hope to catch up with you on the water soon.
Great review looking forward to the next video !!
Prefer a no click, but it isn't a deal breaker for me
For me Andy definitely no click.
Great review sounds like a nice reel
