Here is some historic background. After his execution there were numerous rebelions in Amasya, Manisa and Konya. He was the prince of the people. To cut some slack to Selim he gave Mahidervran back all her wealth when he was named Sultan and built a Turbe for Mustafa in Manisa he also spared his children. This show was so amazing and captivating. Acting and music score top notch.

This scene made me weep. Prince Mustafa, the Lion of the Empire, a proud, fierce, capable warrior…and his last act was crying out, “Baba!” over and over again, pleading with his father.

@Dreamfyreu do realize Mahi Devran was a better person than Hurrem. None of Hurrem's sons have any right over the throne, the first born has. Hurrem was a russian concubine, should have remained a concubine. She was always pouring poisonous lies to sultans ears. She was selfish. No mother would kill another child for fear of own child death. Not all mothers are psychos. She should have accepted Mustafa as the next just king. Not her stupid sons. She was evil. She even killed Pasha. She was a snake.
''There's an animal in all of us'' - Hurrem. This may sound cruel but it is true. We have evolved to become cruel creatures, yet kind creatures at the same time.
This behavior is found in all human beings that love power and would kill their own children as seen in the cults of death that these sultans belonged too.

Cheated? Do you know the meaning of cheating? He didn't cheat on anyone. Ottoman sultan's had harem and they all had countless lovers. The "Suleiman" you saw when executing his child, was not the "father" but the "emperor" one. A Father wouldn't see his son as a rival, but certainly a Ruler will see everyone as one. I think this serial has explained it before, which Sultan Suleiman has two perspective.

Although I feel sad for Mustafa, historically he made some big mistakes and he was also asking for the Venetians help in his struggle for the throne plus the Janissary’s were one of the main reason behind his execution, they did some things for mustafa which was undermining Suleiman’s rule and when a King or Sultan feels that his authority is challenged even from his own son, it is not unusual to kill him to eliminate the threat especially if you have other children that are capable enough to sit on the throne
According to history.... many people think that is some weakness or cruelty to execut his own sons BUT we don't see what is behind it, we don't see what the ruler feel. He can have broken heart, he can become broken but still he does his duety! We must realize that the monarch is really first and foremost a monarch/ruler, than the father (or husband, brother, ..) is responsible for the whole state, stability, the lives of millions of subjects. And betrayal, hence high treason, is the greatest crime (!), and even greater in the case of the dynasty. The ruler has a duty to follow the law and execute the rebels and traitors, whoever they are.... even if they are close relatives and people he likes. So people should not blame Süleyman (historicaly) for executed his sons who were traitors. It's probably not weakness but strengh and unbelievble loyalty and devotion to his principal meaning (rule by justice). He may not have wanted to execute his children (as a father), but he HAD TO (as a ruler). If he had spared them, he might have been more merciful and just in the eyes of the common people, but that is not really the case. If he spared relatives for betraying (the state, the empire, the monarch), it would be nepotism, illegal and therefore unjustice.... He should spared them only because they are his children? That would not be right. He can't make exceptions. No one make harder decision and hasn't more duties than monarch... and no one else would not be able to execute own children for treason, not for pleasure, but for duty and law. Only monarchs can have this responsibility and courage to do it. Of course is terrible to execute own children - but that doesn't change the fact, that it must be so if there is no other way and it must to do. Even a loving father-monarch can (therefore must) execute his children if the law so requires and they have committed highest treason.

@@todorstojanov3100 That's not true at all, that law was made by Sultan Mehmed II and only another sultan was able to abolish that law, so if Hurrem were really concerned about her children why didn't she work hard to make Suleyman abolish that terrible law? I have changed my mind over the year on this whole thing. Mustafa, at least on the show, really didn't cultivate a relationship with his father. He chose his mother, never saw her flaws, chose Ibrahaim and never really saw his either. He was constantly acting on this own not with the direction of his father in a world where being the eldest does not make you the next Sultan. You earn it through obedience and trust. Instead of cultivating trust he allowed himself to be the star--this is why Suleimon didn't trust him anymore at this point. Mustafa fans forget all the things he did that weren't right. How he treated Helena wasn't right. How he answered for his father wasn't right. How he talked to his father? Out of everyone the purest relationship he had was actually with Mehmet--and how much of that was Mehmet?

Just as I gave a farewell speech for Hatice sultan, I feel like I have to offer one for Prince Mustafa. Mustafa, you were loyal, fair, just, popular/beloved by the people, competent and decisive. Everything an ottoman sultan should be. Everything a father should have from a son. Sadly for you, your mother chose to whine, scheme and plot instead of helping you and keeping out of trouble. Because of that, you became reckless and you were treating Suleiman like your father first instead of your King. You made a series of mistakes that eventually lead to your dismissal. You refused to listen to your father's advice, you refused to take his commands into a fully account and you married against his will and wishes. Because of this, you fell victim to sycophants like Rustem, who didn't miss a single opportunity to dig your grave with their schemes and lies. Farewell, Mustafa. May you find peace in the great heaven beside your aunt.
Another thing to add, brilliant plan by Sultan Suleiman and Rüstem. A single mistake would've costed them their life. But they executed it to perfection (no pun intended)
Frankly, I have always hated Hürrem. She was cruel and selfish from the beginning, even with her only friend. Although she took everything from Mahidevran, she envied her for being the mother of the eldest prince as well Now, after years, she is manipulating the man she calls her lover and making him make the harshest decisions that destroyed his life and inner self and caused the death of her youngest son and the outbreak of war between her other sons. She even made her only daughter stain her hands with the blood of her brother. But she knows in her heart that Mustafa is the rightful heir to the throne from among all the princes.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain you fear to become Soliman was turned on to what he feared to be And mustafa Inocent pure hero
Though a lot of this series is dramatized heavily to attract viewers this scene was perfectly done. Imo Sultan Suleiman was the last great Sultan and that was because he failed to pass the throne to a worthy son. Mehmed and Cihangir both died young but Mustafa and Bayezid both would've been good sultans. Mustafa especially would've been most likely a great Sultan rivalling his father and possibly even reaching the fame and greatness of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. All speculation but it is sad that the Empire was handed down to Selim who spent most of his time drunk and was a spoilt brat and all nobody from Selim ii onwards was anything special. The Ottoman Empire just slowly began to crumble. Mustafa is one of the biggest "what ifs" in history.
Suleiman was old and he ruled for 40+ years by that time. Yet, he was afraid of his apparent heir taking over? Why couldn't he just retire and give the throne voluntarily if he was scared of a forced takeover? It was the bloodline of the Ottoman Empire after all, not just his son.
The character that impressed me most was Zal Mahmut. No one talks about him. Appreciate his loyalty to Rustem & Hurrem until the end. Love the way he takedowns Mustafa and the fact he took Mustafa's life is so significant, Rustem's (the one who faked the letter) most loyal man strangled him, not the executioner.
Why I hate Hurrem. I dunno why everyone love her. She is cruel. Selfish and evil she made a puppet out of Suleyman. He was blind to all her evil doings. I loved Mustafa. Always loyal and loved his mother, father, brothers and sisters equally. RIP ❤❤

i cant imagine killing his own son.. sometimes animals are more humane than human....i pity mustafa ...the worst scene....same with bayezid he was killed by his own brother selim ..so heartless
I wish this wouldn’t have happened to mustafa such a good son but as long as hurrem is alive no on can live, the king sultan was blinded by hurrem that he took his own son’s life.
Suleiman looked for an excuse to kill the crown prince Mustapha..He was sacrificed for the Russian witch and her kids. He chose to believe all the lies the fake letters and whisperings of the devils he was not truthful to himself. He was extremely jealous of his son as he had the love of the people and was destined for greatness
First of all, the entire event of Mustafa's execution was a real historic tragedy but it doesn't mean he was an complete angel as portrayed in the series. In several of his letters he openly wished to gain the throne (though not before his father's death) and also openly wished to execute his brothers, Suleiman's sons by his beloved Hurrem. He actually wasn't really rebelling. He was just marching on with the janisseries because he clearly knew that their support meant a lot for achieving the ottoman throne. But to add to the mistakes Mustafa presented the petitions of janisseries before the sultan which was a act of open rebellion. Mustafa was left with no choice now but to fight and that meant rebelling. Suleyman genuinely regarded him the traitor without knowing that actually janisseries were the one who provoked Mustafa to do such a thing. So it was completely normal for Suleyman to sentence Mustafa to death!
It is true. But Suleiman's choice of throne was not good for the Ottomans. Incompetent, mad sultans ascended the throne. Except for a few. That board was needed either Mustafa or Mehmet. Perhaps, in the destiny of the Ottoman Empire, Mustafa had to die absolutely. Because the Ottoman Empire should have ended in the 1900s, like other empires. And the descendants of the Ottomans paid a terrible price for this.
The emperor killed, but the father cried. The emperor acted on direct evidence and believed it be true and final and the prince was not given the chance of explanation or he was not heard. Emperor's decision is unilateral, final and irrevocable even if it is wrong which has been proved after many years through historical documents.
When Mustafa was being executed he was in Sultan mode When he’s crying over Mustafa’s dead body and calling his name he was in father mode I love the duality

When he was young his father almost killed him. He saw his father overthrow grandpa. His reign saw assassination attempts.

Unfortunately, the show depicts Selim as a fool who has no respect for his family and never owns up to his faults.

Well said, exactly like this.

The reality is Hurrem was evil indeed, once she got the power she couldn't get enough, and she wanted more and more power for her and for her children, that`s it.

Mahidevran was his father and mother
@@irenej.lising8863 By their own choice. Instead of shutting up and doing as told, Mahidevran did things behind the Sultan’s back and conspired with his best friend to do their own will.

Mustafa had a blind trust for his father..
He never built trust, always going against his fathers will
But when something goes wrong and he has to answer for it,
He always believed things would go his way...
This was a sort of manipulation as far as I am concerned...
What would you tell about Sulayman's blindness on his viziers and Hurrem. He should have understood that they will try everything to eliminate Mustafa. If Solayman really wanted give justice, he could give Mustafa a chance of self defense. Instead he sought verdict from a Mufti without doing any investigation. It was Sulayman's paranoia about what his father did to his grandfather. A paranoid person can't do justice.
@@jessicabethel4224 i think all start when hurem enter the palace. my question is, did sultan sulaeiman hiself act as father figure towards mustafa?

What a cruel father. He didn't even listen from him his version and killed him. How can he do that
Though a lot of this series is dramatized heavily to attract viewers this scene was perfectly done.
How can a father get his son executed, that too infront of his own eyes??.him telling them to hurry up was just cruel.
He is a bad father
Suleiman was old and he ruled for 40+ years by that time. Yet, he was afraid of his apparent heir taking over? Why couldn't he just retire and give the throne voluntarily if he was scared of a forced takeover? It was the bloodline of the Ottoman Empire after all, not just his son.
He gave his life he wanted that he got what he wanted

The entire Ottoman history is about how the nobility moved up the ranks through intrigue, backstabbing and assassinations. Mehmet III, the great-grandson of Suleyman the Magnificent, ordered the assassination of everyone of his 19 brothers when he took the throne.
But still the empire lasted longer than expectation. Because in around 1630s they were so outdated
He fought like a lion. RIP Mustafa! But the fact is Mustafa was going to execute Selim, Bayezid and even Cihangir if he won the game of thrones.

The emperor killed, but the father cried. The emperor acted on direct evidence and believed it be true and final and the prince was not given the chance of explanation or he was not heard. Emperor's decision is unilateral, final and irrevocable even if it is wrong which has been proved after many years through historical documents.
