I heard Central America got dangerous because it is sandwiched between Mexico and Colombia, the main suppliers of illegal drugs that come to North America. Surprisingly, southern part of Central America from Panama to Nicaragua seems safe. It is only Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras that don't get the clean reputation.

Hello!!! I am half Guatemalan/half Costa Rican and back in DEC 2020, my dad and I traveled to Guate and took a road trip to Esquipulas. On our way back, we didn't go through the usual route through Jutiapa, Guatemala, instead we detoured through El Salvador. We entered through Metapan, drove down to visit Santa Ana (GORGEOUS TOWN), Ahuachapan, Sonsonate, stopped in Acajutla (Coastal town with beautiful beach and cliffs) where we had an AMAZING seafood lunch and drove west to the boarder and entered Guate through Ciudad Pedro de Alvarado. WOW!!! What an amazing road trip. El Salvador was beautiful and peaceful. What struck me the most was the lack of liquor advertisements. Where as in Guatemala, all you see is GALLO ads but there was NOTHING in El Salvador. I don't recall seeing trash on the roads at all either. I was really impressed. I would go back anytime.
🥰 CR stole my heart ... as it did so many others I'm sure. I went to Dominical ... ahhhhhh ... I would still be on that beach if my dog wasn't here waiting for me. 🥰
Interesting about eh alcohol ads.. I’m Mexican and grow up around a lot of Mexicans, Salvadorans and Hondurans. It does seem like Salvadorans aren’t as dependent on it as Mexicans.. 😕
I find it weird when my fellow North Americans talk about Latin America being dangerous. Every place is dangerous if you go to the bad parts or get involved with the wrong groups. For example: Los Angeles
but taking $$ from your bank to go on a relaxing vacation, then spending that $$ in the number 2 murder capital in the WORLD, sounds like a death wish. tourist crime and murder is low there because the number of tourists is extremely low. that’s great until you’re that one tourist being robbed & threatened & scarred for life with that horrible memory - assuming that you survive. no thanx! 👀
