    There are two in Crapyard Scent that you didn't mention. Is that because they're unpatterned? "200,000 step challenge" (close to 6 hours) and "24 hours of 100bpm" (self explanitory). I guess the latter one doesn't even have music tho, lol

    • @domitg

      I didn't leave them out on purpose. I don't have crapyard scent even though I'm aware of it. That's a miss on my part!

    Dripping wet, leaking from every part of my body, unable to catch my breath, getting ravaged by the longest and hardest beasts around for hours in pursuit of that sweet and hard-earned gratification at the end? Yep, sounds like ITG stamina to me.

  • @TC19
    @TC19 2 года назад +23

    just a psa: make sure you have a decent pad if attempting 3hr+ charts. some pads can't simply cope (unless if manipulate it with FSRs) 2hr+ charts
    i.e it doesn't mean that if you can pass a hard one hr marathon on a raw PDP means that you can.....eish
    thank you for coming to my TedTalk

    Cool!
    Needs more:
    Jean Claude Challenge! (2 Hours) - Where it all pretty much started!
    Gandalf Sax Guy (10 Hours)
    24 hours of 100 bpm stream (have a guess!)
    Life Starts at 200 BPM (2 Hours)
    200,000 Step Challenge (6 Hours)

    • @domitg
      @domitg  2 года назад

      Life starts at 200 BPM was in there but the other ones are good to know. Do you know what packs those others are in?

    • @s34nvideos
      @s34nvideos 2 года назад +2

      @@domitg I'm not sure about them all, they tend to be one-offs.
      Jean Claude Challenge. I have it on our machine, but I have no idea where the file is online anymore - This was the first instance of constant 16th stream ITG stamina.
      ruclips.net/video/0oz2xSUNKFs/видео.html
      24 hours of 100 bpm stream and 200,000 Step Challenge are in Scrapyard Kent (but a meme pack)
      Gandalf Sax Guy (10 Hours) - Simfile showcase
      I'm not sure if this video is represented as opinion (Like 'in my opinion these are...') or fact ('These are'), but if its intentions are fact and also used as a point of reference (to be used in the future), then I thought it would be good to talk about the origins of marathon songs. A lot of this stuff starts at the Ian Pyles era, but there were a lot of years before that that don't seem to be talked about or seem to be now forgotten.
      A lot of the first marathons came from DDR. People would release Extended versions which ran into 4-6mins long. Then also 1 hour long DDR 5th mix non-stop megamixes, then MAX, then MAX 2. It was pretty much an mp3 ripped from the CDs with out of sync steps. The files were so big and people had dial up at the time, so they were hard to find. I managed to keep a couple mega mixes though.
      The first marathon file (excluding DDR) is probably BMR's Pulse, it was released back in 2002ish, it was 10minutes 21 seconds, a 3 song song! That was probably the first real stamina file. It plays like an extended 9 footer, but back then it was a real accomplishment to clear it on foot.
      Songs came and went, but one that stood out was For a Lifetime (Oceanlab Mix). One of the first instances of constant 140bpm stream. It was around 8 minutes. A lot of people were calling it: stupid, monotonous and pointless at the time, but that was probably one of the, if not the, first constant 16th stream songs that was released. Soon after that, Mike's 140BPM Stamina Files dropped and then that sort of connects in with this video.
      If it's a 'in my opinion these are...' kind of video, then ignore the last 3 paragraphs!

    My experiences with marathons have been... mostly negative actually, lol! I mean... Well... I don't want to sound like a downer by saying that or anything because the marathons I tried are all really well made. But I guess when I was ranting about myself on a particularly sad fail on Enjoy The Flight on the SN Discord because I tried polishing before one of the last big streams and was too slow (like 6:11), Archi said it best with: "Marathons aren't for everyone". So I'd agree that people should at least try them to see, but it seems like most who don't REALLY don't like them. XD At least that's what it looks like from comments and chat messages.
    Like speaking just for myself to continue on my story from above, I have to be feeling especially courageous to even want to attempt one even if I think I'll pass. Namely because of the unique aspects of them that you mentioned. Being long means that you have a lot to lose at any time, many things can go wrong which can cause that, the friction buildup can be painful (and I do not handle pain well) and trying to polish midway through is necessary but a risk in itself. So then it goes back to the length itself in that you just never know if you'll have success even if you think you would otherwise be able to pass it and it may end up being a big waste of time aside from the exercise. Plus as one marathon takes up most of your pay session, all that time makes it feel like I'm not getting much progress on completing things in packs overall.
    It is satisfying to pass one though as it's a testament of perseverance and planning. At the moment of finishing the marathon it may not feel anything but "It's finally over!" to me at first, but it's later on that it hits me when the joy sets in as it's something quite special to do. So there's usually not instant gratification for me either. Although one exception was passing ECS Classics Side A in ECS 10 as I was exceptionally nervous to play it and had a lot of doubts about my ability to pass even though I'm pretty fluent in 174bpm, but I actually got really into it (Maybe the music) and pushed through all of the obstacles I encountered (like when exhaustion inevitably set in) and even managed to polish before the last stream. So it was one of those "I ACTUALLY DID IT!!!" moments instead of "I'm happy it ended!".
    So I guess a lot of it has to do with what one is looking for in what they play or maybe even their mindset going into one. If one likes the risk and unique obstacles, they'll have a ball. If not, it'll feel like a long road.

      They definitely require a certain mindset and a strong mental will to get through them. They've got a special place in my heart though. Especially in long streams, it's easy for me to reach a "flow" state and just go zen. I find it relaxing in a strange way

    1 tidbit that would've been cool to mention was the "Grigori" quest in SRPG4 which was basically just completing every single marathon in SRPG4. I'm not sure if anyone got it but it made me very interested in completing every marathon that I could do.
    I never followed through with it, but this video reignited my desire to complete all the marathons on the spreadsheet so thank you for this awesome video Dom!

    At the beginning you mentioned there are marathons that aren't stamina charts. Where would I find those? Googling it doesn't seem to help since courses in ITG were called marathons so I get those instead. Some level 9 marathons would be great for me right now.
