Ribs, or a Brisket. No question.
I am a beginner and will be doing my first test burn and seasoning during the coming week and then my first Texas style pulled pork this weekend.
Thank you for the great video stuffed with great info and tips!
Just purchased the char grill champ today and watching tons of you tube videos since I've never owned a smoker before. It's all new to me so I'm glad I found your channel.
Your videos are excellent! Very balanced & informative with great camera work. Thank you for the effort and thoughtfulness you clearly put into your projects!!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you taking the time to comment and yes, I put a lot into these vids. The whole process is a blast 🔥
Wish i knew about this sooner! My first-time hearing about "SEASONING" the Smoker! 😮
Awesome new smoker and seems to burn really well. I’m looking forward to seeing some cooks on it and your impressions as you use it. Have a great week Ryan!
Thank you brother! I’m a little behind on the edits, and I’ve already use this a handful of times. It’s an incredible pit, and there will definitely be more videos coming soon!
As a previous Traeger+ user, I recently switched to Asmoke and I've never looked back. The first thing that caught my eye was the ASCA™ technology. It ensures better cooking results, more efficient cooking, and easier cleaning. The temperature control with the FlameTech patent is also a game-changer. It allows for precise temperature control within 5°F which I find really helpful. The fact that it's lightweight and portable, yet still retains its powerful features, is a major plus. That's not even mentioning the environmental benefits of using wood pellets as a fuel source. Finally, the ability to adjust the temperature remotely and monitor the food temperature via the app has been a real game-changer for me. I can't recommend Asmoke enough! #Asmoke
Man my grill arrives on April 28th. Today I drove 67 miles away just to snag up a grill cover for it and also I picked up 2 bags of Post Oak logs from Academy. Cause that’s how we roll down here in Texas. I even took a whole day off. Just so I can assemble and season my grill. I’m so ready to smoke a brisket right now. Great video man thank you for doing these tutorials. 👍👍
Yes bro! You’re ready to roll smoke 💨 I’m planning to do a brisket in this beast of a smoker soon as well. Enjoy!
Perfect video. Going to do this to my new grill. Thanks!!!
My pleasure, and thank you! I hope you enjoy the summer smokin!

Thank you Rob! I've only fired this up a handful of times so far, and it is incredible! Amazing temperature control and the smoke flavor is insane!
Great video, Will be waiting to see you cooking on it!
Appreesh brother! Did you check out the beef ribs vid yet? ruclips.net/video/TRAyeYbFXbs/видео.html
Great Video. I just got the Xl delivered today. Might add the firebox attachment
Awesome and informative..very cool.
Glad you liked it! Loving this new smoker!
Thanks bro, just bought a Champ and was wondering how to season it like it said in the instructions. Going to do a Cedar Plank Salmon and a Pork Loin Roast for the first smoke.
Awesome man, glad you found the channel! How did the initial smoke go?!
@@ItsRyanTurley We got rain for a few days after I had already put the cure on the salmon, so the smoke went great, but the flavor was way too salty because of our cooking delay. The pork loin was outstanding and more than made up for the salmon mistake (lol). Going to smoke the Thanksgiving turkey and a ham right next to it next week. It's really a great grill! Thanks again
Hello there Ryan; My name is Tim Williams and I'm kinda shopping around for an offset smoker, and Char-Griller is one of the products I'm interested in purchasing.
I like how you give demonstrations on assembling as well as seasoning the Grand Champion. Is the offset smoker have any gaskets to keep smoke from leaking? Please let me know. I saw you grill beef ribs, but I also want to see you grill some ribs and Chicken 🐔 thank you and I'll keep for more videos on your channel. Have a great day! 👍
Burning in my Champ grill right now.
Hey! Just got a Smokin' Champ from Char Grillers for Christmas. It says to season it for 20 min at 400 for 5 times. Can I season it with Kingsford and hickory pellets? That's what I have. Also I don't have a chimney starter. I'll have to transfer vials from my old, plain grill manually- with like a shovel... Wish me luck! 🤞
I just got this smoker and about to assemble it. I've noticed smoke coming from your firebox. Should it be sealed with some lavalock sealant?
Is the summit living offset grill any good
that basket in the fire box come with the smoker, or you bought it separately?
What was sprayed on the outside of the smoker? I'm new to all of this.
My farther just recently past away and never showed me how to use a smoker. Just got a new one and your vid helped a lot. Thank you
Sorry about your pops man.
Much love bro. Stoked to hear this was helpful. I'm always down to help if you need anything. Your father would be proud.
Do u wash the unit first to get the vegetable oil off from the factory
Hi...what did you use to wipe your grill
What are the external dimensions of the fire box? Diameter and length?
Good lookin toy buddy.
Thanks for the vid. What were the temps on the additional probes you added? How did it compare to the main probe? Was it leaking smoke around the door of main chamber? What about the firebox?
Hey JC! They were running about 30-50ºf under the upper temp gauge. Just like I would expect, as heat rises. There was very little smoke leaking out the main chamber and firebox. Now that it is seasoned, there is almost no noticeable leaking. This unit has incredible temperature retention and easy to manage. Hit me up if I can help... Cheers!
@@ItsRyanTurley Thanks for the reply man. You’d be happy to know that I’m actually picking up the Grand Champ today and plan to season it tonight. I’m also going to do the upside-down ash tray mod to help with even temps all across. If interested I’ll share results with you soon.
@@ItsRyanTurley oh, and it’s thanks to you that I was convinced to getting it. Thank you for that.
Can you use regular charcoal or just the lump coal type? I just got my first smoker and I’m learning as I go
Use lump charcoal
How are you going to burn off factory oils if you covered it with canola oil? You're supposed to do a burn in first then you season.
I like your explanation! 👍🏽😎
That's crap ! It will all burn off ! Oil or no oil !!
I already have the grill .. I bought a few months ago and I have already seasoned and I’ve used a few times. Now I have purchased the box. My plan was to season it before putting it on the grill. But now I’m stuck. I’m not sure how much trouble it would be to season it separately before adding it on verses if I season it after I put it on, any suggestions?
I suggest seasoning after you put the fire box on. Good luck! And Enjoy!
@@ItsRyanTurley thank you!
What !!!!!!!😮
Quick question. Shouldn't you bring it up to a burn off the factory oil before seasoning? Just a thought.
Either way. The manufacturer recommended the way I did it I think to protect the metal. But rest assured the smoker is fully seasoned and performing like a champ!
I think I’m going to stick my propane for Jn and Doug the firebox to season it and get it hot just use propane
Did you have any smoke leaks on any parts of the smoker?
What did you spray on the outside of the grill
Canola oil
i have the combo: gas on the left charcoal in the middle and a firebox on the right. i have a stand alone smoker that includes a water/drip pan. my question is how can i add a water pan to ensure that i get my food moist and keep it that way. with my stand alone my foods always come out juicy and awesome but this one i have now i just do not know how to make it juicy. any tips would be greatly welcomed! thanks
Hey JBell. Thanks for the question. I use a water pan on almost every cook, and I just place it right below the grill grate where the smoke enters from the fire box. I think the placement there helps neutralize the heat, and keep the chamber humid. You can really put a water pan anywhere, but that’s my preferred spot. Cheers!
Lmao 1/8 inch I can't stop laughing
Do you need to season the exterior? I would think it wouldn't hurt.
Yes, I’ve noticed very small rust on the firebox door lid, so I have been seasoning the entire exterior every few cooks. Just really spot spraying where it needs it. Cheers!
@@ItsRyanTurley with the same spray? Cookn spray?
Yes exactly. Cooking spray on exterior to keep it looking fresh.
What was the spray you used on the outside?
Canola oil.
You should burn the packing oil off before you add seasoning oil.
Will a canola Oil blend work?
Absolutely.
@@ItsRyanTurley thank goodness! Because that’s all I had and that’s what I used!!
Love to hear it.
I seasoned mine with bacon grease.
you burn off the manufacturer oil first then spray the oil to season..
so no one's going to talk about the lizard on the back wall at 5:36...
Lol, I didn’t even notice that in the edit room. Great eye! 😂
Seasoning a grill should be done on the inside and outside. The outside is what is subject to the elements so it is more important than the inside as the inside will soon coat with greasy residue and creosote anyway. It matters not the quality of smoke when seasoning because you are looking for temperature and not taste. Canola oil works great but you need more and a longer cook time. Seasoning my old offset right now for the 48th time in 24 years.
You can tell by the way he lit it that he does not know what he is doing.
With no follow up video, he probably never learned. He right back to treager.
