"Sometimes the objective world and the narrative world touch." This is, I think, exactly what JRR Tolkien was getting at when he told CS Lewis that "the story of Christ was simply a true myth: a myth working on us in the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it *really happened* ."
One of the huge reasons why I’m always a Tolkien fan, his work was greatly impacted by his faith. You compare the structure of The Bible with his structure of The Simarillion and it’s overwhelmingly similar.
"the Word" was the term purposely used by the writer of the Gospel of John to describe Jesus. It was an intentional and direct comparison of the Platonic idea of the "Logos" (which means word in greek.). The logos in greek thought was the abstract ideal from which all things are made. In fact, John 1 even says that "all things were made through him, and nothing was made that was made without him."
@@monkieassasin it turns out as well that “Logos” was being used by Jewish writers of the Second Temple period (Dead Sea Scrolls) to refer to theophanic episodes in Scripture. The way that John the Evangelist brings those two threads together by his identification of Jesus with the Logos is truly amazing.

@Kiwi Balls my friend, it is in the Quran that he raises the dead and cured the sick. But that doesn't mean he is God. Those are miracles of the prophets and messengers. Prophet Moses had miracles, prophet muhammed had miracles and ebrahim had miracles but they are not gods. They are humans but God gave them miracles. Is that hard to understand. God is the owner of the house and the prophets are the servant of the owner of the house. The owner of the house gave them keys to the rooms of the house, so does that mean that they are the owners of the house. Of course not. Huge difference there. They have keys to the house because the owner gave the keys to them not because they are the owners. Same thing with miracles. Just because God gave them miracles, it dont equalize them with the God himself. They are still humans like us as far as the body goes from eating and sleeping and so on. They are special humans because the are pure, close to God and chosen from him to spread the message on behalf of God. God created them, made them prophets then gave them miracles. It is that simple. Listening to Peterson transform from an atheist/agnostic to a believer in at least gla higher power and the power of the narrative of Christ, it paved the path for me to begin to break free of agnosticism. It was a first step and boy have I come a long way now as an actual Christian
I was confused why Peterson was crying because he doesn't need to cry. Like, it's hard to explain, but Peterson talks about God like he is something to be feared, no, he is something to be loved. At least that's what I know as. God can be feared, yes, but mainly he is love, hope, acceptance, grace, kindness, calm, etc. You don't have to fear the lord, just love him.
Her should go find a Deliverance minister and watch him cast out supernatural evil devils from a hapless person using his status as a John 3:16 pardoned Christian and God's perfect King James Bible and all this butt hurt atheism/nihilism goes away. Believing in God is not a choice it's a matter of SURVIVAL understanding the REALITY we live in. Stop whining about mean people and instead CONFRONT REALITY and FIND OUT what's true as outlined above.

You can accept Christianity without the church, sometimes you need to see it with your own eyes and heart, the church often muddies the waters and puts you off.

That is fine and dandy, but what this man needs to do is come to terms with his sinfulness by repenting of the things he has done that violated God's Holy commands, recognize that he, like the rest of the world are sinner. Just like the thief did on the cross, who was next to Jesus. That thief repented and when he died Jesus made sure he was in paradise with Him. @@kimkerchner2032 Wow. I am some how even more concerned about people believing in religion, more then I have ever been. It has become apparent that religion may tear society apart if we aren't careful. Why did someone have to right a book to control people hundreds of years ago? Religion has caused too many wars to count and it needs to stop now. People are literally killing themselves because they believe if they prey enough that God will save them, so they refuse to take medication. Then obviously die. If they don't they will think it worked and tell everybody that God is real etc. Forgetting that other people who didn't believe in God that didn't take medication sometimes survived too.

@@lachlanB323 Lachian I see you are a thinker and you have a number of questions. I also see that you have a little trouble with the usage of the words then and than. Also the word (prey) was misused. The proper spelling is pray. Prey has a different meaning. But I am not here to correct your spelling or teach you the proper usage of words. So if you don't have a good handle on some easy spelling words, there is a great chance you don't have a good handle on other things. Especially those that pertain to spiritual things, God, and Religion. You instantly loose credibity when you butcher the English language as you have. This is my first tip in helping you and answering some of your questions. Secondly, please don't confuse Religion with God and Godly things. Religion is man's way of reaching God. God's way of reaching man was thru His only Son Jesus Christ who is God the Son. I am personally not religious. I hate religion, because religion will confuse man and you are correct to a point about religion. There are many different religions so they all can't be right. They can all be wrong or one religion or faith can be the correct one, but finding it is the key. Jesus Christ said, I am the truth and the light and way. Nobody gets to the Father (God) but thru me. So, either Jesus was a liar, a nut or actually God the Son. How you respond to Him will determine where you spend eternity. Jesus will either be your Savior or your Jailer. He allows you to decide. Thirdly, I would get off the talking point about religion causing war. If it was not for the Christians many years ago, defending the faith, you might be writing this in Islam. Using a talking point without backing it up is like telling me you graduated first in your class and we all know that is not true. Fourth, you are also confusing many of the fake tv faith healers and other charlatans out there with others who are solid Christians who read the bible and can back it up with sound Scripture verses. I do agree with you that many people have been scammed by these wicked faith healers and religious scammers, but not all are in this same boat. Without the spiritual discernment that it takes it is understandable that you see them all the same. That is where you are derailed once again. Not all are scammers and fakes. Many are, but not all are. Hope to hear back, and I hope I have not offended you with my criticism of your poor spelling and being so ill informed. It is pretty easy to be dismissive, but the man is showing real courage by plunging into his own doubts so publicly. oh you better believe you are watching God raise up this man in particular in front of the entire world “for such a time as this”
"Sometimes the objective world and the narrative world touch." This is, I think, exactly what JRR Tolkien was getting at when he told CS Lewis that "the story of Christ was simply a true myth: a myth working on us in the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it *really happened* ."
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us" - John 1:14
One of the huge reasons why I’m always a Tolkien fan, his work was greatly impacted by his faith. You compare the structure of The Bible with his structure of The Simarillion and it’s overwhelmingly similar.
"the Word" was the term purposely used by the writer of the Gospel of John to describe Jesus. It was an intentional and direct comparison of the Platonic idea of the "Logos" (which means word in greek.). The logos in greek thought was the abstract ideal from which all things are made. In fact, John 1 even says that "all things were made through him, and nothing was made that was made without him."
@@monkieassasin are you orthodox brother? You mentioned Logos which is quite popular terminology in eastern orthodoxy
Jordan has more fear of God, who is not a Christian, than most Christians I know who have almost non-existent respect, awe, wonder, fear towards the Almighty. May Christ lead Jordan to the right path.

@Jesse R most christians also ignore how a lot of the bible canon is plagiarised from other holy books or mythology. Noah's ark.. does the flood of Gilgamesh ring a bell?? Then why is there so much hatred, cancer and every other disease that little children are suffering in other countries. Is he not those children's God? I don't think so
Jordan is seeing the radical nature of sainthood. It means total devotion. Very hard to fathom and come to grips with.
And total devotion, or sainthood, means the resistance of all temptation. Which is downright impossible? Maybe, maybe not. I think its possible. But darned difficult to say the least.
@Lady MercyWrong, it is possible and Jesus showed us the way. Pre-Christ it was impossible, post Christ it is possible. You don’t know what are you are talking about, but it is good to be curious and wrestle with such questions, I suppose.
@@Josh-tf9cr How many actually succeed? We hear of myths and legends, of great saints, but they are the exception, not the rule. Look at your average Christian. Look at yourself. Nobody reflects Christ. Just because Jordan cried means nothing. He has a history of drug addiction and depression, of course that man has cried before.
Well Saints perform miracles and that sort of thing does scare people think why Jesus intimidated people turning water to wine walking on water etc. If some guy you knew did that would it not freak you out a bit? The crucifixion was like a witch hunt because his powers scared people.
@@AnnaLVajda the crucifixion wasn't about his magick. The Romans killed him at the request of the Jewish authorities. The Roman leader in that region feared a political disturbance if he didn't give in to that demand. The Jewish authorities wanted him dead because they were afraid they would lose their power to his influence. They did use the accusation of sorcery as one reason to have him turned over to the Romans. But that was just part of their game.

Crying is always seen as a weakness, or something that makes others uncomfortable. But when it comes to Jesus Christ, your tears are well deserved because you have an idea of how much He loves us.

Did he breast fed like me? Did his mother marry changed his diaper and wiped his butt like my mom and your mom did? If the answer to any of those questions is yes then Jesus who I love very much as a human, a prophet and servant to God, is not God.
@Kiwi Balls my friend, it is in the Quran that he raises the dead and cured the sick. But that doesn't mean he is God. Those are miracles of the prophets and messengers. That is why I said i believe in him as a prophet and servant of God. Many prophets had miracles from God to prove that they are sent from God. That is fine and dandy, but what this man needs to do is come to terms with his sinfulness by repenting of the things he has done that violated God's Holy commands, recognize that he, like the rest of the world are sinner.

Sometimes truth is like a punch in the face and you just got one. Now, I am happy to pick you up and share some truth with you.

It is pretty easy to be dismissive, but the man is showing real courage by plunging into his own doubts so publicly. The two don't mix very well.
That's what keeps me from diving into Christianity. On one hand, it's very simple, and almost seems like it makes sense. On the other, I can look around at the world, and see how similar we are to animals, and I think about how easily the Human mind can conjure up great stories and lies, and I return to my rational mind. It's a constant back and forth, it certainly isn't easy.
@@Logalactic Tbh I'm an ardent agnostic, I don't know what lies beyond our mortal coil. For all we know, a Valkyrie could be waiting to take our souls to Valhalla or Set could be waiting to weigh our hearts on his magical scales to see if we lived a worthy life. The human mind isn't capable of grasping the concept of death so we find ways of rationalising our existence.
