Yes! Great presentation. A group of light rail operators and supervisors (29 of us) rode our motorcycles and went to Portola to operate the switcher and a covered wagon. Thanks for the plug for the museum.
I got the BN317 it's nice, it was my first DCC locomotive. this batch of sw1500 doesn't seem to be moving you can still find them in stock at a lot of hobby shops, I picked mine up three months later when my local shop had their annual sale.
Nice review ]🤙🏻👍 cool to include some railroad photos in your video John, appreciated cheers from 🇦🇷 Argentina Gracias, buen video Y las fotos agregadas, super!! ps: believe would be super dooper if you could include railroad photos in future reviews 🤙🏻👍👏👏👏
So I have yet to jump into the realm of DCC... yet. I've always wondered how much of a cost savings is there if you just get a DCC ready model, and then use an aftermarket decoder and speaker set up? Now I know that largely differs based off which brands you go with, but it's gotta be less than the $100 mark up to make something that is "indistinguishable" isn't it?
Here's some food for thought you can get the same model shown in the video at Train World for $229.99 and if you get the same decoder, DCC-ready model, and speaker at Train World it would cost $273.97. I'm not big on DCC either but I'm looking to convert my SD40-2 RTR to DCC and the decoder speaker combo I want will cost more than the model cost originally.
@@thepoliticalhitman Yeah, I get that you can get it cheaper at an online store, and if I was thinking of buying this train from Athearn then going to Trainworld would be a no brainer. However my question still stands, would it be possible to get "equal output" at a cheaper value, just looking at Trainworld the answer is no for a Soundtraxx decodeder, as those without any speaker or anything seem to cost over $100, but Digitrax DCC decoder with a speaker and a capacitor (keep alive?) range in the $50 range. But not having these I don't know if there's "$50 worth of quality" that is realistically detectable.
@@Mike__B I was trying to just give you an apples-to-apples comparison. I get it that everyone wants their money to go further. The sound quality of the Digitrax is not as great as Soundtraxx but if you don't care about that just get the Digitrax. it's all in what you're trying to accomplish like I said before I'm going to convert my SD40-2 to DCC but I'm going to use a Blunami BLU-21PNEM8 when they come out with 2 mini cube speakers because I'm not sure if I want to get a DCC base but this way I can run DC with all the DCC features through the phone.
For that kind of money... I don't want to have to use the term herky-jerky... If it doesn't run slow I don't need it... It's a switcher I'm going to run it in the yard it will run slow or I don't need it... 'Nuff said!!!... Thanks for posting...
Remember that this is straight out of the box with no break-in at all. I haven't seen a DC only loco that was any better than this straight out of the box, and I've seen a lot of models come across the bench over the years.
@@tsgmultimedia I'm almost 80 years old. When I was a kid MRC had a thing called 'Pulse'. I used to run in the yard right out of the box LOL. I was being a little facetious, thank you so much for posting and getting back to me 👍👍👍
Nice Looking Engine 😊 !

Awesome! Thanks John! #1503 is alive and well in Portola. #1501 spent a good part of it's life working the WP yard in San Francisco.

I wonder how it stacks up to my BLI WP SW. Athearn locos are pretty nice.
