I have been a pro musician for 47 years now. You are going to encounter a whooole lot of dissapointment. People don't understand what you are doing. It is very important that you believe in yourself, even if you don't. Tomorrow is another day. You are having more fun than most of humanity, try to enjoy it. If you get to an age that makes you speak in cliché's, shut up. Which is what I am going to do now. ;-) Good luck to you!
Such a great video! I have been a full time artist for about 3 years and my income for a while was mainly bigger budget projects and nothing for many months in between. It was exciting at first but I eventually realized it’s such a different energy having a consistent flow in and out. This caused me to make a shift over the last year into building several different modalities of livelihood in the healing arts rather than relying on one- people will tell you to commit to one thing but I think it’s about committing to a mission, and letting that manifest in whatever myriad of forms it will. Also when I first started out, I desired to pour my heart and soul into all work, after suppressing my soul for so long. And now… I desire work where I don’t always have to do that lol. It’s good to have that balance and cushion I think Last thing, I have a tattoo “follow the sun” that I got when I was first waking up to my purpose in life. It really is a simple yet profound piece of truth 💛 Much love!
Wonderful topic and video! My advice is to examine baggage from your childhood that might be holding you back. I got so many comments about this issue on a recent video and am realizing many creative people are dealing with this even decades later.
This is such a great video - you’re talking about really important things from a deeply ensouled place, and it’s awesome. As someone who’s been on the same life path of learning how to rest, and delegate, and embrace my slowness in life and art, as well as trying work my love for nature into the sustainability in my supplies I really appreciate the authenticity and originality of your content. Also high five for the Damien Hirst joke, you got me with that one 😂
Congratulations Caro! I’ve been watching your videos for at least 4 years… What an achievement! Thank you for inspiring people who want to deviate from the norm. I love how your videos are a blend of the beauty of your art and the reality of how much dedication you have to your craft. Even for people who are entrepreneurial without the art involved, some of your videos are helpful. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for this advice, Caro! I discovered your work on youtube several years ago, back when I didn't know any other artists, and it was hearing about your experiences that gave me hope I could one day pursue my art full time. This year I finally was able to make the leap into painting full-time. Hearing your lessons learned over the past five years has given me so much to think about for my career going forward. Thank you for this ❤
Thanks for such an awesome video. I am not a full time artist yet but from my attempts at turning my art in to an income I can relate to a lot of the things you said. It sometimes feels like pushing a rock up hill but it’s part of the process at some points in life. I like what you said about artists out there living life in full abundance and being their most creatively self expressed. I also liked the advice of going back to your reason and art is something you love. Thanks for sharing your journey in such a generous and compassionate way.❤
You're my favorite. I can't even explain. Seriously love the forums you open up for this RUclips community of artists to engage and share with each other.
Thank you! My tip for myself would be to get a studio outside my house or in a far corner of my house with door locked so nobody can interrupt me. It has to be a room or a building dedicated to my art only. Healthy boundaries not just for emotional world, but also physical. Tip nr. 2 would be to hang your best work everywhere in your house so in those moments of insecurity you would be reminded that YES, YOU CAN! SEE?!
As someone who's working on hopefully becoming a full time artist in future, this is so helpful!! I hope one day to have a channel as successful as yours 🥰
I wanted to say thank you to you! I have to be quickly discouraged by the lack of customers and even on my youtube videos because no one watches them ... but your video has given me a little hope and I'm more motivated than ever to work again.💕
Thank you so much for the slow artist comment- I am realizing I am also a slower artist- it depends on the project of course, When I was younger I was move move move but I realize that I am a slower artist- and have felt anxiety because my latest project has taken two years. So thank you for that.
Bendiciones y saludos ❤
Thank you so much for this video. I have struggled with the whole "starving artist" moniker all my life. I really want to challenge it, and my own motivations. Your video is a great template to start. Thank you, again. Muchas gracias. :)
Caro, do you keep track of your business expenses & claim them as deductions when you do taxes? I’ve always done this s as a makeup artist with supplies gas and different fees I had to cover as par of my business and it reduced the amount I’d money I had to pay when I paid taxes. All in all, I think taxes are a scam .. my heart broke when you said “all my effort” 😢
I do! All of them, I keep separate everything for my business and work with accountants to try to make the best out of it, I still feel I have no clue what I'm doing and why they keep all my savings 🫠 but I'm learning :')
Are you claiming all your expenses? The website, wifi, materials equipment. All the spendings for your business are deductible. I’ve been a makeup artist for 10 years and always deducted all makeup expenses leaving me to pay only a couple hundred for taxes for the year
Caro!! The song follow the sun is by Xavier Rudd 🫶🏼😅 Lol I loooove this video and all the others I’ve watched from you!! Thanks for the info and help always ❤❤❤
