      you gotta do you but studies show that swearing is correlated with intelligence, linguistic capability, and might even be good for your health ☺️ always worth unpicking why you hold certain beliefs and preferences and it's not as if she's swearing the whole way through.

      @@PlaceboEllie EXACTLY!!! Often when ppl are nit picking at someone else over seemingly small gripes it is simply a sign they have more internal work to do. It is so much easier to look outward and point out someone else's perceived flaws than to look inward and recognize things we need to work on. To be 100% honest I used to be a bit judgmental about cursing too. Until I started working in a very busy CT-ICU(Open heart unit of the ICU) and here I was working in a high stress environment with THE most amazing nurses, doctors, and surgeons who swore like pirates when doing small talk in the staff lounge. I picked it up and felt bad about it. Then one day a very awesome conversation happened on the unit about this subject and they said they never swore really either before taking this career path and that it is a form of stress relief! lol That our minds can only take seeing and experiencing death and chaos for so long before needing to find an outlet. That swearing is a much healthier outlet than smoking or drinking or worse. So now when I hear ppl cursing I take it as a nod to it being their form of stress relief. No biggie! As long as no one is cursing anyone out for no apparent reason then really I don't see the harm in it. Caylee Grey is also extremely talented too. Often artistic folks cuss as an outlet as well. lol

    Lovely video! Thank you!
    I started a journal a year ago and spent days and months building it up. One day I thought, oh but this is nothing like other people's journals, theirs are so artistic and mine is so ugly. I didn't like my own handwriting, I didn't like drawings, I didn't like the bits and pieces I picked for my journal. And so I stopped and put the whole thing aside.
    A year later - a few days ago actually, I opened up the journal and thought, wow, this is pretty good! My handwriting looks okay, and the drawings are nice, and the bits and pieces are great! Now I'm so glad I ploughed on through those days and months.
    Now I'm journaling again. I tell myself, don't worry about what the now-me thinks about this, do this for the future-me who by reading may understand the past-me (as well as herself) a little better.

    such great tips!! I've just started junk journaling and I'm loving it!! I really love the freedom it gives. I already had a practice that I "mess up" the first page of any journal I write in so that I can get over the fear of "ruining it" . I'm going to LOVE this month!!

    • @CayleeGrey
      @CayleeGrey  3 года назад +1

      YES YES YES! I love that. I still have first page fears, and the way I combat them is by "introducing myself". Sometimes it looks like a passport photo and my name. Sometimes it's a bullet list. But it's just a small introduction to take away the fear. I LOVE that you mess it up on purpose. There's so much freedom in that practice. And, I'm sure you've found, even when you're trying to fail on purpose, sometimes it looks beautiful.

    Hi Caylee! Loved this video. ❤
    I found you on Google podcasts! Get messy!
    I love listening to your podcasts and now watching your videos. I am in the middle of a 100 day challenge to walk 10k steps a day inspired by the podcast of you with your husband. :)
    My favorite piece of advice you gave is---ignore perfection. I started Junk Journaling as a way to relieve stress from a job in the medical field that demands perfection. I especially love that you infuse yourself and your real life into your media and remind me that Journaling is not just a past time or a hobby. It's art, and it's therapeutic. :)
    I am glad to see you collaborate with other JJ artists. I was already watching Joie, Barbara, Rachel, and of course, you.
    And on a side note. You inspired me to get a typewriter! I bought one at an estate sale (very inexpensive), and it is cursive!! I noticed the one you used today is cursive. Then, of course, I purchased another one that is regular print. Love them!!
    Looking forward to your next video and podcast. Love from Texas, 🇺🇸

      Aww what a lovely comment. Thank you so much for it. My husband is going to be SO proud of your 100 day challenge. I can wait for him to wake up and tell him 😀 10k a day is AMAZING. Go you. Even just one day of 10k steps!
      Yesssss. It’s SO hard to ignore perfection but that’s the exact place you’ll find freedom and all the beautiful things that come with creation. It’s not easy. I find that junk journaling is perfect for it. It lends itself well to the messy look.
      I’m so happy about your typewriter. I don’t often recommend supplies but a brush pen and a typewriter have really changed so much of how I create. I have two too 😂 although this cursive one needs some TLC because I didn’t intend to write in red. I used to think they were the same as using a computer but they’re really, really not.
      Thank you for your beautiful comment.

    Thank you for sharing this, page paralysis from fear of messing up is my worst habit. Then I put it all away again and never start it.

    • @CayleeGrey
      @CayleeGrey  2 года назад +2

      Maybe try create something with the PURPOSE of messing up. It’s a nice (albeit scary) practice to get you brave and creating, and you might just end up liking it (which would be failing at messing up, but still wonderful of course).

      Try an "ugly" junk journal--specifically using your least favorite (read: U-GLY) stuff--or start an experimental journal where you work out all the kinks (like Frankenstein's monster). Can't mess anything up there. And it will help you build your competence--thereby building your confidence.
      Another option is to just go totally random and just do pages for pages sake then randomly put them together later. There's a certain kind of beauty in that kind of collection --Get out your toys and play-just PLAY--have FUN. Enjoy the process--the project will take care of itself 😉👍🏼😎

      Try making yourself an "ugly journal"--using your least liked papers and a cover that's too big...ugly embellishments, stickers you'll never use-with the intention of simply gluing/tearing/creating.
      I now have two going--one I use for "experiments"--lol like Frankenstein's monster (I try stuff there just to see if it will work before I do things in my "good" journals) and one is just plain U-GLY. OY. I can't mess them up. No matter what -
      Oddly, they're really growing on me (lol, they'll probably end up being my favorites somehow--though I really can't see that at this point). 😎

      Absolutely!!! DIVE in--if you're hesitant--start small --a good many of my favorite junk journalers work on index cards (soooo NOT intimidating) or make little junk journals (out of small lunch bags or scrap papers and cardboard... or index cards as mini journal covers--sooooo cute!!)
      After stalking jujo vids for a long while: I started by picking out my least favorite papers (the U-GLY stuff!!) and all the homely stuff I had that I knew I'd never use and just got it over with and made one. She's wonky. But then I was off and running--YOU GOT THIS 😎

    New to this junk journaling thing. was researching something else when I found this rabbit hole.
    My question is what is the difference between a junk journal you use yourself one one made to sell?
