OD-9 Pro+ Rocks! Maxon makes a bunch of OD pedals. I have found they all have their place. Depends on your guitar, amp, style of music playing etc.. thank you for watching.
The VOP-9 is an awesome pedal. it's smooth silky and a little compressed sounding. ST-9 is an extremely versatile pedal. a little more mid-range based less compressed and a little more harsh than the VOP. As for getting Jimmy Page' sound. there are allot of variable. what kind of guitar and amp are you using.
thanks David for taking the time to explain the differences in tone and gain structure between each pedal from chord to lead changes. There is obviously a sweet spot for each pedal which makes choices even more difficult. I would possibly have the OD9 pro+ for chords and the 808 for lead. there might be some options to stack them as well. Great review and simple examples to demonstrate there tone differences.
Now that's what all demos should be like. Great demo. Nothing worse than watching people trying to compare different products by playing different riffs/solos for each.
Hi again! Thank you for responding! I am using a les paul, and as for the amp i am using a really cheap one that has a very bad sound... but i am planning of gettting a new one as soon as possible.. probably a marshall..
Maxon makes a ton of different overdrives, just for that reason. different pedals sound different on different amps, different guitars and different players. Please check our website for differences. the link is in the description above. All these companies you speak of, all have stuff based on Maxon products.
I getting a Maxon OD pedal to boost my MESA TRIPLE REC to give it more punch, bite and to tighten it up! I was going to get the 808 but was thinking about TS 9 + and I heard it does a great job boosting the amp plus it has the bottom end switch! What do you think? I'll use it for Hardcore / Metal!
Yes they do. That's because Maxon designed and manufactured all the Ibanez pedals between 1979-2000. Maxon's chief engineer Susumu Tamura designed the original TS808 and TS-9 circuits. However appearance is where all similarities end. Maxon uses much higher quality components than current production Ibanez products. Which results in a superior tone.
great job!...although i wish you'd used the PRS for one segment and a strat/tele for another segment, BOTH through a ridiculously clean amp....THEN, both through a pushed amp....very small complaint though...everything was so well done!...
+Steven Gillespie The OD808 is pretty classic for driving an already overdriven amp. A lot of players have been using it since it's inception in the late 70s.
cool also can you tell me what the best distortion pedal out there would be for me i want something that can be used for metal, rock, rockabilly and blues i was thinking of getting a biyang OD8 which is basically a tube screamer clone but i dont know if tube screamers can really go to ridiculous levels of distortion for stuff like parkway drive and bring me the horizon
I'm a fender guy myself. I couldn't agree more.. Fender = CLEAN!! lol. sometimes i miss the bit of grit from the amp and sometimes happy it's just clean.. depends on the type of gig i'm doing..
OD 808 has the best balance throughout all settings to my ears.Very classic tone indeed. These Maxon products are based on the legendary Ibanez TS-808 Tubescreamer which interestingly enough was manufactued by Maxon along with the TS9 for Ibanez up until 2002.This would explain why my Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer sounds much like the Maxon products. My 2011 Ibanez TS9 has the JRC4558D chip that was used in the vintage TS-808 IbanezTubescreamers.I would think Maxon is using this chip in their products.
I was looking to see if a pedal would help my 6505+ but i can get all these tones with the stock O/D. do anybody know if there is a pedal that gets a creamy O/D like an Orange? I am a drummer first but my son is the main guitarist so I am doing some research so if any of you real guitar guitars have some ideas let me know. Thanks and God bless
Hey man if your looking for a good high gain amp. it depends greatly on your price range. but check out Boogie Rectifier, Fuchs, Fender EVH, Bogner Uberschall is amazing but pricy, if you're more budget conscious check the Peavey 6150/5150, blackstar has some great amps also.. There are just too many to list. lol
Hi everybody, I wanna ask a question. I am a Jimmy Page fan and i want to get as close as possible to his sound.I know Page uses a different brand of overdrive pedal, but i got really got fascinated but these pedals and specially the two top(ST-9 pro plus and VOP 9). Which one do you suggest??
The od808 is awesome. i bought it from you guys. im currently saving money for a new amp. i like to play anything from killswitch engage to testament, metallica, slayer, times of grace, all that remains, etc... If anyone can give me recomendations on amps. it would be appreciated
I'm not sure i understand your question?? If you're asking if both modes could be used at the same time, the answer is no. Please define the question a little more. thank you
i think you mean the ST-9?? the super tube? i actually just replied to your post on the cannibal corpse vid. Both are Great. the Super Tube is more versatile and will add some more low end punch.. where the 808 is awesome but really just adds the mid hump.. So if you have a flubby amp with allot of lows you want to clean up and add more grit go with the 808. if you want more body and grit go with the ST-9 pro+
Yes, this is because Maxon is the company which designed and manufactured the Tubescreamer then re-branded it for Ibanez and manufactured all their pedals until 2002. Maxon is the real deal.. All quality components.. not using cheap stuff just to sell at a low price.
Yeaah !! i agree ! with a stack amp it will sound amazing and push it over the top for sure but i'm not so sure for solid state amps ! I will check out the last you mentioned !! thanks again !!!
Well the amp has allot to do with it. i've taken pedals i love an put them through a bad amp and hated them. A good OD pedal is going to accentuate the qualities of your amp. if it's not a good amp then, well you get the point. if using a not so good amp i would recommend you look into more of a distortion pedal or wait till you get the amp you want.
i saw the video on your channel and it doesn't look to heavy for me ! to make it easier for you i want to get more the Slash's tone ( GNR, Slash's Snakepit , Velvet Revolver , Solo carrier) & ACDC's( hard rock ) & Metallica's and Black Sabbath 's !!( metal )
yoav sgan-cohen - Maxon designed and manufactured the Ibanez 9-Series pedals from 1980-2000, when the two companies stopped working together. The Maxon versions use high-quality, low-tolerance components and improved circuitry for superior sound quality....
Jake - Maxon designed and manufactured most Ibanez Effect models during the period of 1979-1998. The Ibanez TS808 and TS-9 are Maxon designs that Maxon OEM-branded for Ibanez. In '98 the two companies' contract was up, and Maxon started making and exporting Maxon-branded pedals - we then started distributing them in the USA in '99
+Heesung Kim Thanks man. We always appreciate feedback. Glad you're digging it. Subscribe if you haven't already to keep up with the new ones. We have some cool stuff waiting in the wings.
thank you, excellent review.saved me from major assumption. I know what they cost so I will want #2 or #4.OD9,or VOP9 You would be amazed at what swapping out a Cap,in a TS9 for $99.oo will do for you(try a .068 orange drop.shhhh our secret) I love mine!
it's not a heavy pedal even a little bit. it's an overdrive. i just breaks up a little but if you have an already distorted amp it will push it over the top.. if you want just a heavy hard rock pedal check out the Maxon SM-9pro+ heavy metal pedal. it's killer and not just for heavy metal. in the 9 series on our page..
Dave is just doing a demo of the pedals for us. if you want specifics you can def get them at our website godlyke.com i am not aloud to post links in replies. so just go to our site then click maxon then nine series. you can see all the overdrives in there.
This demo would have been more helpful using a Fender clean channel. Now we only know what they sound like on a Dr. Z. Most musicians can only dream of owning a DZ.
Great demo, beautifully explained, but a bad decision on your part to have distortion on the amp to start with, you made it harder for the listeners to be able to tell how much of the pedal they're hearing and how much of the amp. OD pedals are demo'd with clean amps, this is common sense! Hope Maxon didn't pay you for it...
Ahmad Ikram Bin Ahmad Hisham Thank you.. yes everyone is different.. The problem on all these forms is most people believe if it's not done the way they want it done then it's not right.. thank you for watching and responding..
No. At least half of the players aur there want to hear how an overdrive pushes a tube amp. RUclips is littered with demos of overdrives being played with weak, jangly telecasters through clean amps, which mean nothing to those of us who use overdrives for what they're meant to do-push an overdriven tube amp further.
Most metal guys are using the OD808. however, some use the OD-9 some use the ST-9 etc... contact us at sales@godlyke.com and they will help you with this.
check out our site godlyke.com We have a ton of different pedals to choose from and videos of most.. There's allot of things to consider. do you have a clean amp or a channel switching amp that you want to boost the distortion?? The OD808 is an awesome pedal if you want a light distortion or you want to beef up your distortion channel... Also depends on your price range. We also have the "Maxon Real Tube ll" pedals which are like adding another channel to your amp.
OOOHHHH i'm a LIL slow this week.. sorry bout that.. I'm so used to people being opinionated and outspoken when they can hide behind a username that i've become numb.. lol sorry bout that... :-)
@01:30 they're all Odrivers, you know the specifics in them, the ships in such, we're not going into that well who cares!!!! >_______< damn it man , i do i care!!!!!!!!!
You started by saying you set up you amp for a clean sound then admitted that you set it up dirty. Once I heard that, the demo was useless to me. Your amp has way to much color in it to use as a blank palette for comparison. And your guitar choice for a pedal shoot-out is also not very helpful to most guitar players. Waste of time.
definitely one of the best gear presentation videos on youtube. nice work guys.
Yeah nice review, keep them coming. I like how you comment on the sound while it goes, helps to get a better picture of what these pedals sound like.
What are you looking to do?? do you want to drive the front of the amps clean channel or drive channel??
what sound are you trying to achieve??
Yes, this is because Maxon is the company which designed and manufactured all of the Ibanez effects up until about 2002.
i think that would be an accurate description.. there would be subtle differences but yes the ST-9 is pretty versatile.
Why do you think that??? He uses a VOP-9 in his rig which starts with the same circuitry and gives a very unbiased review
Very good review. One of the best reviews I have seen. I wish he did a comparison between different manufactures.
OD-9 Pro+ Rocks!

808 seems best balanced of them all.
great job!...although i wish you'd used the PRS for one segment and a strat/tele for another segment, BOTH through a ridiculously clean amp....THEN, both through a pushed amp....very small complaint though...everything was so well done!...
Yea man Dave does a great job with demos for us. Amazing player and extremely knowledgeable.
So which would you use for solos through an already distorted tube amp playing hard classic rock?....think ACDC with more gain.
+Steven Gillespie The OD808 is pretty classic for driving an already overdriven amp. A lot of players have been using it since it's inception in the late 70s.

What's the best one for metal? I play in low tunning like drop a so need a good tight low end
Hey man if your looking for a good high gain amp. it depends greatly on your price range. but check out

it seems the st-9 pro plus is the most versatile and could sound like each of the other pedals with proper setting adjustments..
OD808 or OD9+? i want a finnish mid saturation tone for my engl e530 :)
The od808 is awesome. i bought it from you guys. im currently saving money for a new amp. i like to play anything from killswitch engage to testament, metallica, slayer, times of grace, all that remains, etc... If anyone can give me recomendations on amps. it would be appreciated

Yeaah !! i agree ! with a stack amp it will sound amazing and push it over the top for sure but i'm not so sure for solid state amps ! I will check out the last you mentioned !! thanks again !!!
what about the wampler plexi drive :D?
thanx for repliying, i will check it up now! :)) keep on the good work
Yes, a really good demo, i wish there was more like this one! thanks!
Love the super tube. I have the TB-09 and it's a killer boost pedal
Well the amp has allot to do with it. i've taken pedals i love an put them through a bad amp and hated them.
A good OD pedal is going to accentuate the qualities of your amp. if it's not a good amp then, well you get the point.

what cables are you using?
The Pro + sounds much tighter and smoother at the high end.... Thanks for the video..!
I'm pretty sure Dave uses PRS guitars.
ok . thanks for the advice and your time mate !!
I'm wondering if Maxon made the Micro pedals back in the 1990s.
Yeah they all look pretty much like my ts9 only it says maxon on the cover instead. I have always been confused by this..
yoav sgan-cohen - Maxon designed and manufactured the Ibanez 9-Series pedals from 1980-2000, when the two companies stopped working together. The Maxon versions use high-quality, low-tolerance components and improved circuitry for superior sound quality....

The 808
Is maxon made by ibanez?? Cos ibanez ts9? Ibanez 808

I love my Maxon ST9Pro+ Super Tube !!!
Clean would be subjective to the player what they feel is clean "to them"
That Guitar is?
Great demo!
thank you, excellent review.saved me from major assumption.
I know what they cost so I will want #2 or #4.OD9,or VOP9
You would be amazed at what swapping out a Cap,in a TS9 for

I think the OD9 Pro Plus is not as compressed

i want the st9 pro plus supertube so frickin bad
LOL All Good.. thank you for watching
any time. that's what we are here for.
Thank you for this video!
OD808 is your best bet. OD9+ has too many lows for what you're looking for
Yes with higher quality components and workmanship. These are boutique quality Ibanez are mass production quality.
Good demo
I saw it !!! thanks you so much for replying !!! i'll check it out !! ;)
Great demo, beautifully explained, but a bad decision on your part to have distortion on the amp to start with, you made it harder for the listeners to be able to tell how much of the pedal they're hearing and how much of the amp. Dale Atkinson
Valid Point.. we will incorporate this into some of our own overdrive videos
It took me like 30 seconds to realize it was Dave Weiner doing the video!
Some people have a strange idea what a clean tone sounds like
Most metal guys are using the OD808. however, some use the OD-9 some use the ST-9 etc... contact us at sales@godlyke.com and they will help you with this.

i've an old Ibanez SD9 it is the best for me !!!
oh never mind.. well he said a clean sound, but it turns out its distorted. cool
The benefits of being Dave Weiner i suppose. lol. Dave Rocks!!
I was making a pun on the fact that they all look like tube-screamers because for all intents and purposes - thats what they in fact all are.
OD9 Pro+ was my least fav at beginning by the end of video it was best one lol
haha u didnt understand? I WAS BEING SARCASTIC :D
OOOHHHH i'm a LIL slow this week.. sorry bout that.. I'm so used to people being opinionated and outspoken when they can hide behind a username that i've become numb.. lol
sorry bout that... :-)
You can clearly see that he is not a fan of tube screamers.
Those Dr. Zs never sound very clean, maybe that's because I play Fenders.
Any time. feel free to email us at Sales@godlyke.com any time
They even sound like 'em
a clean sound? thats not what a ts is for.
maxons look exactly like ibanez tube screamers
I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more if you didn't call your amp tone "clean"...
OD808! :D
maxon, maxoff
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup
Dooooooooooooooooown
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup
Dooooooooooooooooown
Laney Ironheart
They All look like TubeScreamers
Sorry my master for this stupid question D;
All on! All on! All on!
That clean tone isn't very clean.
OD-9
