This work ONLY if you have large storage capacity on iCloud, right? You are not really transferring movies to VLC but rather, putting them in your cloud folder which eats up at the cloud capacity. Not really the right solution unless you can show how to transfer the file to the Ipad itself and NOT to cloud only.
This is so stupid, It's ridiculous that apple cannot just natively let you open your media directly from the file explorer, This is why i refuse to buy an ipad, open up the file system like android, allow us to watch our own media with other media players. If they allowed normal file system access nobody would ever be able to compete with the ipad
Agreed. But I can also understand how historically Apple has never really allowed for user customization when it comes to hardware or even software. It is how they can tout that they've never really been at the mercy of hackers or viruses.
For those who it didn’t work. Try saving it in vlc by sharing like in the video once it’s saved. Go to vlc player where you will see all your other video files. Then go to network tab. (At the bottom) > local files > then play your file. It worked for me.

Great Tutorial ROBERTO ! .Also just to help there is another way to do it, from the files app hit move and trasfer it to vlc app on the- on my ipad section This way it copies it to the vlc app .ROBERTOS way when you play the movie and then exit from the app it doesht copies it.thanks again !!
Yeah, this is what I am trying to do but it is not Working. Roberto should have explained this in the video as I see it as more important than simply playing movies form your ICloud. Perhaps he doesn't know how to do this.
there are limited features of vlc that cannot be seen on ipad such as a+b repeat loop meaning there is no point a to point b time chooser unlike on desktop and Android which sucks
Hi Roberto! I transferred a clip from my old DCR Sony 170 to my PC, but how could I change the file type to one that I can post on social media? Thank you

Thanks for this and it works - however, I’m playing an 11GB mkv file and I can’t scrub/jump the timeline. I was already over an hour into the movie on my Mac and wanted to finish watching on the iPad (iPad pro 13.9” rev 2) but can’t figure out how to jump to that point. Help!
I have the same problem. I can open MKV files with VLC and start to watch but normally about 30 minutes in it starts to freeze for a few seconds then the freezes get progressively longer. Also can't rewind/fast forward or scrub through the video. Only seems to be an issue with larger 11+GB full 1080p files. Maybe my 2018 12.9 pro can't handle them?
I am Android user and want to watch all movies and series on ipad air 5 is it possible to watch because I have downloaded everything on my windows laptop ??
Downloaded all sorts of MKV movies, work fine on TV, PC (VLC) but when i share it to VLC IPad nothing happens. Annoying Edit: I needed to move the files to VLC Folder on IPad (4th Gen)
I have a usb drive with tv series chapters. Can you transfer all of these at one time to the VLC app in my iPad as you indicate in your video or do I need to do the procedure per individual chapter? I am new at this 🥲Thanks
This was helpful, thanks!

Well, it's actually on the iPad. It would take to long to upload to the cloud.
Good man! Still works Feb 2024. Thanks 🙏
Glad to help
It worked on my iPad 4th gen. Thanks man ❤️

You just saved atleast couple of hours in my life. Thank you.

VLC usually plays other movie formats as well, at least on my computer. Would it play other formats on an ipad as well?
I believe so. VLC is an amazing app!
