    Finally someone who also says that more expensive is not necessarily better. I say that for so long and almost everyone around me says it is not. But I know that for a fact because I am a certified fabrics specialist( dont know what it is in English) but I always say you pay for the brand. Read the labels , look at the finish, feel the fabric and so I KNOW wether it is worth the price!! I refuse to pay for a name, i just want quality!

    My tip is don’t wash your clothes! Sounds really weird but this is what I mean: I live in Finland so there is no way we are wearing only bra under a jumper, knit or anykind of shirt really. If you wear a t-shirt under everything, you only have to wash the tee, not the top layer. I have many tight fitted sweetheart or v-neck tops that I use everyday under everything and longsleeved for knits and colder weathers. Because of this my clothes look new constantly no matter where I buy them ’cause I don’t get my armpits on stuff so the clothes stay clean. I only wash them rarely to freshen up because of course your neck is still touching the fabric 😄 And jeans, trousers, pants, skirts and all of that should not be washed either. Only when they are dirty or have stains. By the way I can’t wear wool, it itches like hell so I love acrylic. It is super soft, dreamy cozy and washes perfectly when wool shrinks easily even though you wash it right.

    • @kikiTHEalien
      @kikiTHEalien 5 лет назад +11

      If you love acrylic, you probably don't sweat a lot and definitely don't have smelly sweat.
      People who decide to take your advice on not washing their pants should take this into account.

    • @JosieIrons
      @JosieIrons  5 лет назад +7

      I agree, I wear a thermal under everything during cooler months for this reason too!

    • @jenm9027
      @jenm9027 5 лет назад +5

      Steaming clothes also is a good way to freshen them with less damage.

    • @AuthenticInFashion
      @AuthenticInFashion 5 лет назад +1

      This helps but I don’t think my washing clothes is an option I started using a cool wash and I’m using bags to put the clothes in so they don’t get messed up.

    • @jadepistols
      @jadepistols 5 лет назад +2

      I agree. Also, charcoal air freshener bags are great to keep in closets and drawers(and pretty much anywhere else. I keep them in the fridge too!) to keep your clothes smelling fresh. They come in nice cloth sacks so they don’t look ugly or messy like a box of baking soda might.

    I really appreciate that you're shifting your message on your channel from fast fashion to slow fashion and leaning into educating us on the impacts of our consumption on the environment. Josie, this is one of your best uploads yet!
    Non fashion related...I am a huge environmental advocate and decided that this year for Christmas everyone is getting something environmentally friendly like reusable grocery bags, wool dryer balls, stasher bags (super handy), stainless steel straws, etc.
    Keep these types of videos coming? LOVE it!

  • @JanellesFaFaFarm
    @JanellesFaFaFarm 5 лет назад +10

    Most of my shopping is actually from thrift stores. Obviously checking for stains and rips but you'd be surprised by how many quality fabrics you can find. I find a lot of silk and cashmere tops and nice trousers there. Not a lot of camisoles but those I can buy new since I save so much on the rest. Sifting through takes time though. ❤

  • @Nettesvideo
    @Nettesvideo 5 лет назад +36

    SUCH an important video you made here 😘 The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry, I think. I am quite a bit older than you and recently lost a lot of weight and pulled out a lot of very high quality wardrobe pieces from my basement where I had stored them for years. They are classic pieces in 100 % raw silks and fine wools. They are (to my surprise) still very stylish. I do think that it matters and helps the environment if we all adjust our behavior and buying patterns even though it seems as though our very small personal decisions will not matter. They do!
    One can update previous years' wardrobe by adding just a few trendy pieces and mixing them into your current classic wardrobe. For me this is where you come in 😏

    • @JosieIrons
      @JosieIrons  5 лет назад +1

      Nette that’s so true, I always promote quality over quantity! Your key pieces in your wardrobe should last for years, just as by the sounds of it yours do!

    Another suggested tip is thrift shopping. Rather then buying a t shirt for $20 at the mall. You can go to your local thrift/antique store and find perfectly nice pieces for a much better price and it’s helping save our environment. Some of the items you find in there have never been worn so it’s better to wear them rather then just throw perfectly good pieces away.

    I’ve got this app called Stylebook. You do have to pay for it but it is definitely worth it. You can put all your clothes and accessories on there and you can see what they look like together and save the outfit if you like it. Also there is a calendar so if you put what you wear everyday on it, it can tell you what you wear the least and most so you know what to get rid off. Love you and your videos xx💖

    Being precious about my good clothes is such an issue for me! That said, it's a really difficult tip to apply. I can't speak for everyone, but I find it really difficult to wear out an expensive item 'just because', out of fear that it might get ruined, and then I won't have it for that special occasion, when I 'need'/want it. It's not a very logical fear, because there's just as good a chance that it won't be suitable for that next 'special occasion' or might get ruined that first time it's worn out, regardless of why it's being worn - but there you have it. Definitely something I need to work on. Thanks for the encouraging reminder, Josie :)

    • @JosieIrons
      @JosieIrons  5 лет назад +6

      That's a really good point, personally I think once I've worn something once or twice for very special occasions, I then like to get loads of wear out of it. Like my Valentino rockstud heels, first 2 years I owned them I only wore twice! My graduation, then a wedding. Now, I wear at least once a fortnight! Getting my moneys worth!

    Wow I think this is my favourite video that you’ve done! So well thought out, practical, down to earth advice that anyone can implement. Well done! Like another commenter I too started using the Stylebook app this year and I have found it truly life changing. It has helped my get control of my closet, shop smarter and help me get more use out of what I already own that I had otherwise forgotten. I love putting together mini capsule wardrobes by selecting a group of 5 colours. I also enjoy saving inspiration photos from the internet and then shopping my closet to get the same or similar look. Keep up the good work - I just love your videos and positive vibe!👏👍

I recently watched a BBC documentary on how fast fashion is destroying our planet, and I must say it moved me to tears. I was so shocked. We all love fashion but we do have a responsibility to choose our clothes carefully and get the maximum possible wear out of them before buying more. Thank you 😊

    Fantastic video - great content and conversation on so many levels - great to be thinking of the environment, our impact, also reducing waste. Since following you I’ve definitely shopped less and a lot smarter - but since becoming a stay at home budget has also come into - so being able to shop my own wardrobe and create new looks has definitely been a challenge - Found your hints and tips so helpful x (I also have a bobble off lol 😂 has it absolutely years I thought I was the only one )

    Such an informative video, thank you. I would like to see your interpretation of one outfit styled different ways, like for office, for lunch or for evening drinks/dinner/theatre to get the most out of your wardrobe. I don’t have time to go home and change after work but I still want to feel non-work me 😊

    I just saw this on my recommended vids & glad I watched it. ❤️ You’re so beautiful! I have some clothes that I haven’t worn so much where they’ll be sitting in my closet for quite a long time and always telling myself that i’ll wear it next time or at some particular events. Also have other clothes that still has tags on it. So I’ll take your advice on wearing clothes little by little that’s out of my comfort zone to get a use out of ‘em and to spice up my outfits. Thnx! 💖
