WWE 2K23 REVIEW! After 6 weeks of play, is it really Even Stronger?

- Welcome back to my first review, and ofcourse it could be no other game than the latest game in the 2K series. Unlike most reviews, I played it for 6 weeks before making a review, so I could get the most accurate review possible.

Honestly, the controls for WWE2K 23 are too complicated Why is everything so complicated I wish they would go back to the old style from the SmackDown games from the PS1 and PS2 era. These new games are no longer user friendly with the stupid breaker system.

The reversal system I see as a psychological challenge instead of just luck

In svr 06 you could throw someone into the car and crash into them with a different car and it would finish the match. 2k getting outplayed by a game from 2005.
It's really sad to see they're still unable to create a fun wrestling game after all these years

John cena 03 had a 06 render randy orton had a 2012 render for his 2009 look, also thoughts on them giving John cena a big blue dress instead of a oversized jersey that they left blank instead of putting his name and number 54?
Yeah the renders felt a little odd, and having 8 different instead of 3 or with different attires would've made more sense. I mean he only really started changing his moveset in the 2nd half of his career

I agree with every single point you brought up in this review. That's why I'm sticking to WWE2K22 this year and hoping they'll improve in the future installments. Can't wait to play AEW : FF soon and I'm hoping you'll do a review on that!!!

I thought I was weird and the only one who did this. I like to book matches and watch them play out with the AI in control. I actually prefer doing that to playing in universe and GM mode. I only play in my rise and showcase.
Although you did not like it that much, great video. The 'Bat signal or whatever' line gave me a laugh.
No, you're not crazy, AI matches have a large support in the community, and is honestly the best part of the game. And happy you liked it :)
I used to love booking matches and ppv events and watch them play out after I cloned some of the wrestlers and altered their move sets

The story modes definitely need to go either total behind the scenes with making the wrestling part a factor for "exciting matches" or completely just a story mode where wrestling is "real."
They should just embrace the kayfabe, make it zany af
You can adjust the AI sliders for real wrestlers too. You just have to go to edit superstar in the options area instead of the creation suite. And for MyGM mode a tip is to change everybody from the custom draft area into a specalist.
Yeah I read about that, would be nice to have an option to do that for all at once. Maybe there is, but I didn't bother to check😅
They need to bring back road to wrestlmania mode again i loved those as a kid

Yeah, I give it a 6/10. I think the matches themselves are fun, but the modes are boring. Showcase Mode had no soul this year, just a husk of what once was. At this point I would welcome the Road to WM mode again, with crazy storylines, druids and magic, they could even bring in Cena's army friend to the 2KVerse. #EvenStrongerer next year.
Shoutout to Tony haha fun fact: the voice for Tony was done by Bryan Williams, lead designer for the thq games for many years. He has worked on this game aswell as an assisting producer or something. Hope he has a bigger role in developing next years game, because it needs him badly

This is gonna be a small rant here. I apologize if this goes long
I didn’t wanna buy WWE2K23 but I went back on my word to myself. I saw the constant compliments and I saw the upgrades they made to universe mode. (Oh we’ll talk on that soon.) and so I bought the shiny new toy and once again I was left disappointed.
Let me start with some positives
My rise for the men’s story of The Lock I actually for the most part enjoyed. It took turns I never expected 2K to take.
The flaming tables look much much better.
The blood looks better than 2K22’s did.
How they did their absolute best to stay up to date with Sami Zayn. I appreciate that effort.
Custom renders are still really cool to use
War games is a fun match to play and even watch. You wonder who’s gonna get that win there when you sit back and watch
The AI intelligence system is a great idea
The way the computers mix it up with using their finishers they will run off the ropes or throw you into the ropes and then use their finisher for extra impact. I enjoy that. Now let’s get to my negatives if I think of anymore positives I will add them
The negatives
First off Universe Mode it is so god damned broken. For a game that loves my faction do not bother creating a faction with 3 or 4 males and one female. You will not be able to edit the trio’s entrance or victory.
My rise for the legacy (female) story I haven’t completed it 100% of the way but the main character which isn’t you it’s your legendary aunt. She’s super annoying and tries to get you pushed to the top instantly. Not really what I want from my so called babyface. Spoilers on here:
Eventually you go after the tag team titles with someone you didn’t get along with before. A can they co exist storyline. Then you don’t wanna go heel but you do it anyway for your partner to show them you’re not just a bright clean good girl. You can get nasty. Then you have two choices. Both answers make you sound you enjoyed being bad. Which don’t get me wrong eventually I made it work. But it’s weird where is my choice. I’m just going down the villain route. My partner and I start getting along and I think she somehow becomes a face just because we work together. I don’t really know. Honestly nobody in this story at this point is likable except Molly Holly. (Cool thing when I became women’s tag champs me and my partner defended the titles and we would constantly cheat. Fighting on the outside and everything. We were basically a female version of the Blackpool Combat Club) anyways my game crashed later down the line. I haven’t touched the story since.
Also a negative. I don’t know if they’ve fixed this yet but managers for Universe mode if you make your own stable and have one wrestler who has multiple managers only one would come out. Example. Wheeler Yuta has the entire Blackpool Combat Club for managers and only Bryan Danielson came out.
Universe mode again The Usos are set as a team there is no bloodline on Universe mode you have to make them yourself. That’s an easy thing to do. Just add Roman and Solo to the usos and change the name. But you can’t add Paul Heyman to the stable. In the regular roster mode as they call it you can add Paul but not Universe mode. Makes no sense. And so the last time I played the game. The usos had a tag match. Roman making a rare appearance on raw just to manage them. Well when Roman came down with them. They all did the Fabulous Freebirds entrance. What the hell? Now I will give 2K credit. I probably didn’t edit the entrance of The Bloodline than. So I’ll accept that part.
Universe Mode I enjoy the idea of controlling what happens in the rivalry, but the odd thing is on the match card it’ll say your rivalry but not the match. For example. Kevin Owens vs Johnny Gargano is scheduled and then when the rivalry card is finished loading it then tells me it’s Johnny Gargano vs Edge. So on my livestream when I said it was Johnny Vs KO and it was Edge instead I felt quite foolish but that’s not much to complain over just a small nitpick
Universe Mode. Do not ever leave Universe mode if you like the match card 2K set for you. Anytime you close out the game to play something else or if you wanna go play showcase or something. 2K will change the card. The only way to keep your matches is to customize them.
Universe mode again. Sometimes the rivalries you have set in place. Sometimes those rivalries don’t even appear on the show. I had to schedule Alexa Bliss and Bianca for the show. Again it’s not a big deal but why am I having to take that extra step.
Creation suite. 2K needs more create a wrestler slots. When we first got 100 slots it was amazing. But as the game creation has gotten better you wanna download more wrestlers but you have no more room. That sucks. 2K needs to add more.
Creation suite again. Custom images. Custom images are awesome. And 1,000 images should be more than plenty but unfortunately with customer renders those take up so much space and before you know it you’ve run out of room.
And while I’m on the topic of images. Don’t even really bother making two attires. In universe mode there’s no random option for your wrestler you may only select one attire. So unless you have a custom PPV attire like the House Of Black have. It’s not really worth it. A flaw on 2K’s part for that. Back to what I was saying we need more custom images. The community creators are absolutely incredible out there and it’s a shame we can’t download more of their stuff due to not even character slots or not enough room for custom images.
2K have deleted Saraya from my custom characters at least twice. So I had to go back and download her again and put her back with The Outcasts again. Create an entrance. Advanced entrance is back but it sucks. First off you can’t preview anything. Lighting, pyro, the motion, you have to select the said part then you can view it. That’s so backwards. Sometimes pyro just appears because you have a wrestlers motion. Example pick the Undertaker’s motion you’ll get his pyro. Now Taker has cool pyro but that’s not how advanced entrance is suppose to work. Championship entrances. Now to my knowledge they fixed this, but originally for championship entrances you could only come out with holding the title not a normal entrance with the title just around your waist. How hard can that be for them? Again I do believe they patched it to fix it.
If there’s anything else I can think of I will add more responses but the part that finally broke me and made me quit 2K
I was doing a livestream for RAW and everything was going as it’s suppose to. I end the episode and go to RUclips studio to edit the tags and add my own custom thumbnail. Only to discover that 2 hours of my work was not uploaded to RUclips at all. Everything I had done was for nothing. Sure I could keep playing and just upload the nxt episode but my thing is. How am I suppose to trust that would even upload after what happened last time. My biggest anger over 2K is I play WWE2K19 which is a 5 year old game compared to 2K23. Almost now 6 years. And I barely have any struggles or problems with 2K19. Have I had them of course I have but I don’t have as many with that game than I do with 2K23. I am able to upload all of my WWE2K19 videos just as I’m suppose to. I get everything I want from 2K19. 2K has never given me what I want really. Every year they break me. I almost cried when making my latest review on my channel on the game. Because I have put in so much time downloading, deleting, custom moves, custom shows, editing the AI’s (oh I almost forgot. The cool AI option 2K gave you. You cannot use in Universe mode. I swear it’s like they wanted make Universe mode unplayable just so they can delete it so they have one less thing to add) but editing wrestlers overalls, their abilities, their personalities. All my hard work I had done. My money I spent. Everything was wasted because I finally have given up on them. The worst feeling I have is I don’t wanna get roped into buying their next game. But I know I probably will. I never wanted to buy this game. The only reason why I bought it was because I wanted to play a different game besides WWE2K19. I wanted my channel to have variety. My channel is really only wrestling content. That’s what my viewers really expect so I got 2K23 to hope for something different but once again I got led astray and left with disappointment. It’s like I can’t enjoy anything 2K has given me. I don’t understand why sometimes it feels like I’m the only one getting screwed by 2K. I’m happy others can enjoy it but clearly 2K just isn’t for me. They failed me on 20,22, and 23. I don’t wanna buy 2K24. Will I? Let’s face I probably will because it’s a force of habit for us wrestling fans to keep consuming these games. Make fun of AEW Fight Forever as much as you want as long as it’s taking, but I can’t see Yukes messing up as much as 2K has failed.

Yeah it's tough for fans. It's tradition to buy the game every year, mostly because it's compulsory and, let's be honest, there aren't that many options. I'm really looking forward to AEW's Fight Forever, mostly because of the competition it will spark for 2K, atleast for the 2nd game. I do feel AEWFF will be lacking in content in the first game, being a groundwork game and all. We'll see, but I'll remain as optimistic as I possibly can. It's just a dang shame 2K can't get their s*** together, tired of them.
@@VanHellingtonStudios honestly that’s what it is man. Tradition for people to consume because 2K knows how we are. We’re wrestling fans who love wrestling games and we keep buying. Again I don’t wanna buy 2K24 but I don’t know if somehow they won’t rope me in like they have every year. AEW Fight Forever probably won’t be a perfect game and so many will compare 2K23 vs AEW and it’s probably unfair to do to them as it’s their first game but I just can’t see Yukes messing up as bad as 2K has these past years. I’m like you bud optimistic.

I'm actually fine with the changes to the gameplay, but it's a lose-lose situation, everyone can't be pleased, obviously... If they don't change, people will complain that it's stale - if they do change, people will complain why change what isn't broken... It's all subjective, there is no win, really...
However, I actually like the new combo system and spontaneously breaking combos... It's fine, it's not all timing-based, I like to think of it as it giving more chances to fight back and stay in the match... Which is a good thing, I've had more back and forth, intense matches than any other game... It's good.
Only thing for me, and this is an unpopular opinion, but I hate the button-mashing nonsense - didn't like it back then, still don't care for it now... And yeah, I actually do prefer the circular sliding bars for submissions... And I know, people complain, but from what I've seen people just suck at it - like anything new, there's gonna be a learning curve, so "get good"... 😅 But for real, to avoid submission, like any other potential loss, in my opinion, is just don't get beat up so much... Because the more you're beat up and worn down, the more susceptible you are to losing via pinfall or submission; that's just the way the game works, which makes sense... Anybody with a submission finisher, just avoid that at all cost - I avoid Kurt Angle locking in the Ankle Lock or Bret Hart locking in the Sharpshooter as much as I avoid Brock Lesnar hitting me with an F-5 or Undertaker dropping me with his Tombstone Piledriver.
That's just me, I dunno... "You win some, you lose some, but you live to fight another day!" 😅 But for real, I've gotten outta some tight situations even late in the match, red body, when the sliding bars are wide AF... Still managed to escape, somehow... That's awesome, feels good to escape when I thought I was about to tap... And the times I lost, that's fine, perhaps I got beat up too much on that one... Can't allow that to happen, right? I just go at it again and get beat up much less than before, and guess what? I win.. 😁👍
I think people have this idea that they're not never suppose to lose... No, it's not bullshit if you've been getting your ass kicked throughout the match, body part injured, and get caught in a submission finisher for another loss... What's bullshit is how long matches go now, because people can seemingly kick-out of infinite finishers!
I'm fine with the combos, but the dodging and reversals are a pain, luck is a horrible mechanic. The submissions bars are fine I guess, as is the pin bar. I agree though on them kicking out all the time on harder difficulties, many a times have I uttered "OH FFS" during an extra long match haha the victory is actually quite rewarding then
Last game I played was 2k17 witb Goldberg returned and I only played for a few months because the gamplay is not for me. Howver I got 2k23 recently because I foundout GM mode had came back. I am happy for that from 2k however, the stiff gameplay instead of fast pace arcade system that was shjt your mouth/here comes the pain is what I miss. Plus I just dont get what the hype about myuniverse mode is when its just a stepchild to gm mode & creat a storyline. Just give us those modes with necessary deatures from the past games and call it a day...why is this so hard other than a money grab and them knowing most fans are too easily entertained with lackluster options. Thanks for this video , haven't bought 2k23 because I just wasn't convinced it was different. It looks exactly like 2k22 with the latest attires/roster etc . I was gonna get it for my channel , but after watching this I'm gonna skip it .
It's pretty much the same game, but with Wargames. It's good for cpu vs cpu matches, though. I'd suggest a deep sale, and something tells me you won't have to wait long for that.

@@gabewrestling4153 Mixed, really. It looks fun, but the moves are a bit... choppy? The animations are a bit mid, but hey, if the game is fun I don't mind. I just hope it does well so they can go all out with a sequel

i can’t explain how validated i feel now hearing this gentleman echo EVERY. SINGLE. POINT. that i’ve been complaining about in myfaction since the game came out. and with surprisingly niche community of wwe fans actually making content on this game, i thought i was the only one who felt that way about it. i’ve been a long time nba 2k player (they have essentially the exact same gamemode across all sports games just under different names) so the concept of it in a wwe game intrigued/enticed me but with the overly simplistic gameplay mechanics, their only option to bolster the mode with difficulty, was to make it borderline unplayable via artificial difficulty, on top of how repetitive the matches already are ! every. single. match. is the same process of stun enemy, use sig/finisher, kick out using resiliency, stun, sig/finisher, pin; with NO DIVERSITY among the in game challenges to earn myfp. and don’t even get me started on the ATROCIOUS a.i. making things like table matches, (one reversal and the enemy picks you up and puts you through the table because you didn’t guess the correct counter or escape from their grab in time, or your partner puts the enemy through a table before you complete your tasks) handicap, (literally the only way to win is to whip opponents up the runway so the other ai get stuck in an infinite loop of getting in/out the ring so their partner doesn’t get counted out) and etc just genuinely disheartening to play on legendary difficulty (which is the only way to actually earn things).

I'm so glad I waited until last weekend to buy this game. 2K 22 ended up being one of my most played games last year. But it wasn't necessarily that I thought it was amazing, it just happened to have certain features and some particular roster choices that kept me sticking with it for a bit. Otherwise I was still playing 2K19. I think that's the pinnacle of these wrestling games, and that saying something because even that one still had a lot of glitches
22 however I found to be also incredibly glitchy, all kinds of things would constantly go wrong with it. Universe mode which is my favorite would just straight up break sometimes and I would be stuck with whatever stupid glitches were persisting unless I completely restarted from scratch
I wasn't going to get this game at all, I was just going to stick with 2K22 and everything I had created and downloaded for it. But I booted it up last weekend and they said I could get 2K 23 with that superstar booster pack unlock for $11
$11 is a pretty good price for one of these games. Cuz they're not adding much more than another $11 worth of content to each one at most

Agree with everything, Universe was completely broken for me. It's a good deal to get it for under 15, but I would never suggest getting it for full price. And still hoping that they lose the license someday. Not happening anytime soon I'm afraid.
lolno. 2K19 is nowhere near the pinnacle of wrestling games. Not sure how old you are or or how long you been a wrestling fan for. But the pinnacle wrestling games are smackdown shut your mouth, or no mercy.

The first wrestling game I played was WCW NWO World tour. If I were to list my favorites from that point on I would pick no mercy, SVR 06 and '07, 2K14, and then 2K19.
I would also rank here comes the pain overshot your mouth, but both were pretty good especially after just bring it was so bare bones
I've played a fair share of others, I played a decent amount of 2K16, but I still thought the gameplay was pretty clunky, I mostly just liked it for the Steve Austin mode. I played my fair share of early smackdown titles, and last year I was doing a lot of 2K 22. But I have some issues with the new gameplay style based on combos, and just some other things that helped with immersion and presentation but overall my disappointment comes from the fact that the game is still pretty buggy, especially universe mode. And I'm learning right now 2k23 is even worse in universe mode it's just downright broken

@@VanHellingtonStudios yeah I don't count 2K14 in their catalogue. Like I said I think when they switched that direction to more simulation based gameplay in 2K15, they didn't really hit a good balance with it until 19. 19 also just had a ton of content
I'll do the same thing with 2K24 that I did this time, when it's a few months before 25 and they try and get me to upgrade for $10 😂

Orange HHH is the least of the problems for sure, but for authenticity's sake it's still a point of critique. Dammit I want an orange HHH with a not sh**y Pedigree😅

Also they need to add in more unique weapons & weapon moves, omg moments, match types like buried alive & i quit, add ECW guys to the roster & make the blood effects look better for next years game, ive been waiting so long for this to return
Everything weapon and backstage has been severely underwhelming for the past 8 years. You would think new generations would offer even more possibilities, but it really seems like the opposite. 2K's wrestling games are really 5 years behind of what they should be

The lock is a character christian had to play in 2005 it was a ripp off virsion of the rock but they cancelled it now its in 2k23
Now that you've said it i could already picture it once they lose their license with WWE it will be W2K** instead of WWE2K** just a make believe wrestling game using the same engine without WWE licensing

What are you seeking from a Wrestling Game of this era just curious.
Expected more than what I got. Games from 2 generations ago still had way more interactions and options than they do now. And that breaker system, the only thing it's breaking is the game on a fundamental level
@@VanHellingtonStudios I personally think the 2K games since 22 have improved and are jam packed with features. 2K is on fire. Just my opinion though.
@@VideoGameXDomain They have improved for sure, no argument there, but a lot of them still feel hollow. Universe is still barebones and in desperate need of an overhaul for years, backstage is underwhelming at best, and myfaction is a waste of time. GM is better, no question, as is MyRise. It all feels so... hollow, for lack of a better term. 2K, or Visual Concepts to b exact, have yet to make a wrestling game that's, well, fun. I think the Breaker system is the biggest culprit here, atleast for me.
GM Mode was last better in SvR 2008. Universe Mode was last better in 2K19. Showcase was improved but it's a mode with zero replayability. MyRise is becoming dull where most of the story is through a phone, and I prefer a Career Mode any day where I experience a created or imported wrestler moving through the ranks, dealing with rivalry/team system, contracts, injury, anything to enhance your story like a real wrestler. I'll wait for the Wrestle Code, until then, I guess 2K19 will do.....

I came here to say 2k24 is gonna suck. Now Playing single player is okay. But after beating all the solo content. The multiplayer will suck. Heres why. Wwe 2k15 GAMEPLAY IS BETTER. Wwe 2k 14 is better,wwe 2k19 is BETTER. Irish whips suck. dodging? Really? The rock paper scissors was supposed to be for the chain wrestling not the fkn grappling. You have to do combos to unlock more GRAPPLE MOVES 😂😂 THATS TRASH. This game looks good , is kinda fun, and will improve with modes snd again its gonna be amazing in single player mode. Please address this so 2k will listen
I doubt 2K will listen to anything we say. Seems like only the pandering yt influencers are listened to. The R/P/S system js pure garbage, and many mechanics don't work well, but there is something deep within that might be a redeeming factor in the future. I have my doubts though😅
@@VanHellingtonStudios if you become famous maybe they will respond. I am trying hard to do RUclips soon so I can infiltrate 2k and show them the games we loved. Wwe 2k19 and 2k14 are the best for online multiplayer and I would say let's build on this. Then I would show them svr ,2011, 2007, and hctp for game modes, and just everything else we loved match types movement etc. I would finally show them the no Mercy. The way you could do so much on old hardware

Another lazy copy and paste from 2k in which they add a few features to try and justify calling it the new game. I'll pass and buy Fire Pro Wrestling World. All they do is move some things around in the UI and menu screens and change the intro music. I thought they were gonna make a game and take a year off. This is so correct...the Gamer Community does 2k's job for them.

Everyone bitching about special guest referee. The reason why it’s not in the game is because it’s not in modern WWE PROGRAMMING. Case in point WWE did the mix match challenge. 2k brought back mixed tag matches. WWE brought war games to the main roster last year with survivor series. 2K put it in the game. So if we ever get a special guest referee,buried alive,inferno,lumberjack,slobber knocker, bra and panties or 3 stages of hell match on current WWE programming. We’ll get it in the game
