ACES! just ACES! Have a look at Test Driver by Terry as well, equally awesome. Of course Black Sand Beach featuring Yuzo Kayama Yuzo Kayama & Takeshi Terauchi - Black Sand Beach -1965
Those eleki tracks have such odd phrasing and licks, does it take a while to learn those songs? I bet its really fun to play something different like that.
Brian Neal It really is quite different and fun. I think I put a solid week into it, maybe a little more since I had been playing just that main part for a while (it's been a very persistent earworm, and had to be done). Obviously there's that cultural element that makes it really interesting; there are standard blues fills, but many Western heads would have to wrap around the melodies and phrasing for sure. I can usually start learning most surf tracks just by noodling around from memory, but this one threw me for a loop at first, since the whole song shifts from G to Ab at 1:30 (I kept wondering if I was out of tune with the later parts until I noticed that pivotal part). Then there are those wild blasts of notes that absolutely rival modern shredders- I cheated on that nice classical scale at 1:40 by single picking, but Terry double picks it, and to my amazement when slowing it down to half speed in Audacity, it was clean and perfect. I feel learning something like this is definitely worth the time and effort, even if it isn't 100% accurate.
Great orijinal performance.
