It's a very sobering realization that the land Thorfinn dreamed of, Vinland, a land free of war and slavery, was in fact the Americas. A land that would ultimately be no different, one also rampant with war and slaves.
@@TheHamburg1 its pretty self explanatory that it isnt stated, cuz it didnt "exist" yet, but we already know its "far to the West", and we literally saw Leif in the very first episode traveling there and meeting the Native Americans. Not to mention theres the manga
Love these reactions bro! Vinland saga is truly a once in a lifetime experience and it's sad how little recognition it gets compared to how much it SHOULD be getting. I'll keep watching these till the finale and next season too if you react to it when it comes out!
As a point of reference, Vinland is about the Vikings finally reaching America. That's why, every time you see flashes of images of Vinland, you're seeing amber waves of grain, add from sea to shining sea. There, I believe, is evidence that the vikings traveled to the Americas quite a bit before Christopher Columbus got lost. If I remember correctly, it was armor and equipment that could be dug up and found of the seafarers, that's what a Viking is to a certain degree, the job seafarer, that embarked upon this quest. This is a retelling and revising of the old stories of Vinland. ***The open waters were very important for Norse economy as farming wasn't impossible but very, very difficult. In some cases, the seizing of land, even, was sought because they needed better places to farm, less harsh conditions for crops to grow. It makes sense that travelers would be central. Especially among the coastal Norse populations. Also, something important to note is that with the tyrannical kingships, of Harald, the Olaf, a lot of people we're leaving those uh norse countries to find a place that they could live peacefully. And some part of that was that journey to the Americas, something that later generations will do for a lot of the same reasons. Later of their generations will do exactly for a lot of the same reasons. (I say later of THEIR generations, because after a certain point, just about all of the kings of England and Britain/Great Britain are norse descended. They are the children of Rollo who took up a seat as a Duke of Normandy. It's kind of a beautiful intergenerational sentiment.)
I wonder if Jack has realized yet that Vinland is no fabled land but just the US. A land far beyond the seas and oceans, fertile and empty, free of slaves and war. Of course, a lot of that would change as it was conquered.
Its such a simple contrast that defines the theme of this Season, and the series as a whole, and I'm glad you understood it cuz unfortunately alot of Vinland Saga "fans" ignore the purpose of the series and only credit it where theres action and violence. Season 1 showed Thorfinn taking the path of a Warrior; someone who knows only DEATH and destruction. Season 2 shows Thorfinn taking the path of a slave; someone who suffers at the hands of wars and warriors, and more importantly a farmer; someone who learns to cultivate and create LIFE through crops.
I don't blame Garnar. He wants to protect their home a secure a good and safety environment for his family. Arneis is a woman she don't understand about a man's role in his family she's just simple minded and naiive. It's sad that either way Garnar could protect his family anyway. Even if the man stay in the village they would fight and died or be enslaved. The only possibility was if Garnar and Arneid pick their son and run away abandoning everyone and the village and starve somewhere else.

Is this a fact or just a theory
@Vedant089 Im aware of the actual history, but where is it stated that Vinland in the show is actually suposed to be america
@@TheHamburg1 vinland is technically newfoundland, canada. So yeah, north america
@Vedant089 you're thinking of columbus few hundred years later

Season 3 is gonna be the best season so far if they adapt the manga perfectly like they have been.
